Footsteps To A Star
Debbie's off to Nashville On a Greyhound Bus She was saving up for college 'Till she quit Toy's R Us She's got her mother's suitcase And dad's beat up guitar The only song he ever wrote Was "Footsteps to a Star."
The song's about a dreamer And his beat up old guitar "Don't follow in my footsteps When I go reaching for a star"
Dad walked out of Debbie's life Before she even breathed A guitar and one half written song Was all that he bequeathed Footsteps was a country tune Guaranteed to jerk a tear "Don't kick the dust too high Your road might disappear"
Momma sang a different version When Debbie talked of going far "Don't follow in my footsteps When I go stumbling for a bar"
Debbie's at daddy's doorstep Hung down as if in pain Just like an ancient oak tree That stood a hurricane. But - no - she had a lucky break Didn't think to make a call The song was cut a week ago "Footsteps" made it after all.

Howdy Stefan!
Really loved this bit: "Don't kick the dust too high Your road might disappear"
best of luck with it.
