Hi all....here's a Country/Rock tune I had paid to be made into a demo....I quickly realized that turning all my ideas into recorded songs was going to get expensive. Hence, I make my own now, for literally peanuts!! Please, tell me what you think!! -Tom “IF I HAD YOU NOW” By Tom Tognaci (c)2009 http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=8349217I called your name. I called it out loud. I called your name into the crowd. But when you walked away The concrete cracked. And with every single step I wished you back. Crimes of the heart, they say Can make a girl walk away From all that’s good And all that’s true But the last thing I ever wanted Was to hurt you. But if I had you now, you wouldn’t walk away. I would change, some how, what I did or didn’t say. That’s if I had you now, you wouldn’t walk Instead you’d be running my way. Well, I called your name. I called it out loud. I called your name into the crowd. But when you walked away The words couldn’t break loose. And they tightened up around me Like a hangman’s noose.

Enjoyable listen, Tom. What program do you use to create your demos?

"This was a demo made by Nashville players" - that a commercial demo service? Not bad at all!

Tom, Well done. Reminded me of the kind of song the King used to feast on.

Cool tune Tom. Reminds me of something Elvis would have done.

Hey Tom...
Nice production on this. Like the "funky" vibe.

This was a nice demo. I agree with Michael's comment about the song sounding familiar, especially at the onset, but toward the middle and end it varied enough that I forgot about it.

Tom,
I think the lyric is great but am very worried about the "Superstition" sound alike instrumental....The singer was good...but I'm a Tom fan, I like to hear you...but I listened and it is a good song, just in need of some more original adjustments....

TOM--
IT HAS THE NASHVILLE SOUND AND IS VERY UPTOWN--ANY ORIGINAL SOUND YOU WANTED IN THE SONG, IS GONE WHEN NASHVILLE DOES A DEMO--AFTER A WHILE YOU BEGIN TO THINK--I'VE HEARD THAT BEFORE!--IF YOU ARE SATISFIED, THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS--I'VE HAD SOME $450 ONES DONE BEFORE--THEY TOOK THE SOUL OUT OF MY SONGS OR DIDN'T DO AS GOOD A JOB AS I FELT WAS DESERVED, FOR THE PRICE--WHEN YOU GET ONE THAT LOOKS AND SOUNDS LIKE A HIT, YOU HAVE TO GO WITH THE PROS!
I ALWAYS ASK MYSELF, WOULD I BUY THAT?
TOM, GOOD LUCK WITH PITCHING THIS ONE--SOUNDS RADIO READY!

This is great! I couldn't quite put my finger on the familiar sound at first, but I'd have to agree with Michael LeBlanc that the guitar sounds a lot like Superstitious haha I'm not really one for a country sound, but I really liked this! I could definitely listen to it over again
Even so, it is well with my soul

But when you walked away The concrete cracked. And with every single step I wished you back. That's some nice writing Tom Song has a great feel too. If it wasn't a demo, I'd suggest modifying that riff to make it a little less familiar. Not sure if it will fly as is.....maybe ask an expert.... Scott

-Thanks In2piano for listening and commenting!! -Tom
-And thank you, as well, Doug...cheers! -Tom
Hi Tammy...I paid to have that done in Nashville about 5-6 years ago. They, the demo makers, took my original guitar riff (which was the actual inspiration for my song) and turned it into "Superstition". I was pretty upset, at the time....and so then decided to learn how to play and sing better, so that I could start recording myself. I bought my Micro Br about 2-1/2 years ago. That demo cost me $500, too! Thanks for listening, Tammy...and for all of the nice things you always say!! -Tom

-Hi Mackie...thanks for commenting...I love the recording...I'm just befuddled as to why they didn't do it the way I asked them to do it.....I guess, them being the experts, they knew better. Thanks again... -Tom

Tom,
This song has a good vibe and rhythm. The resemblance to Superstition is a concern, but if every country song that resembled another went away there would only be 10 left! The guitar riff only needs a minor change to become distinctive. I would not let that stop me pitching it...an artist who wants to do the song could change the riff a bit.
I think the lyrics are good.

Hi Tom, I didn't see that coming! That riff is a bit out of place with the rest of the song, which is really well done, by the way. Well written lyrics as well. Did the studio that recorded this for you send you your tracks? If so, maybe someone like Mike Caro could get rid of that guitar and put something else in, more like what you had in mind, without messing up the rest of it? Just a thought. Ricki

-Hi Colin....and nice to hear from you...thanks! I like the demo, enough to pitch it. However, the "Superstition" guitar wasn't really necessary....I thought I had a very good ORIGINAL riff that backboned the song really well. I guess they just couldn't help themselves!! Thanks for commenting! -Tom
Hi Rickie...thanks for commenting....They sent me an MP3 of the mastered version only. For some reason...I don't think Paramount makes the single tracks available...I could be wrong, however! Thanks for listening! -Tom

Paramount ? Eeeek ! Run......
Um, yes, well......
Not a bad tune Tom, but any demo studio that puts a Stevie Wonder altered lick into a country tune should be shot at dawn.
cheers, niteshift
