Hi Folks,

Another year down, but the exciting thing is that another year is starting and it's going to be like a rebirth for myself and JPF. We're going to get back out on the road and we're going to launch another round of JPF Music Awards. We're also cranking up our new sort of secret project (not totally, just partially) and I think it will really benefit all of us in many ways.

Thanks to all of you here on the boards. I could not have made it through the last years without all of you to keep me in the game. Now it's time we get together face to face as often as we can and where we can't, via skype which is the next best thing.

We all have a clean slate. Time to rock it gang!

Brian

I think it will be useful if I can pull it off. By that I mean there are tons of books and sites and orgs. that offer or promise all sorts of things but in the end, it's all a bit hollow. For me, the most important stuff is "reality" not "dreams" and finding the positive and optimistic stories of hard work and making your way in the real world of making music rather than rock star dreams or country hit fantasies or rap mogul grandiosity. That stuff other people have been writing about for what seems like a century (if not literally a century). So I am taking a very different approach, creating a sort of living history of the "real world" and plucking out people and stories and strategies and luck (which usually mysteriously looks the same as simple hard work). Talent is a given and is self evident, in that unless you believe something shows talent your "self" then it's irrelevant. Since you can't control that with rules and examples, I think actual stories of the little guys and gals who have found a way to make it outside of all of this stuff is needed.

At least I hope. So that's the genesis of the project and my approach and frankly always has been. The rest is secret! = )

This is an exciting idea, Brian - fully consistent philosophically with everything you've done so far. Over the years of reading posts here, I have been impressed at the number of different ways people have found to live a musical life - and it would be cool to see a bunch of such stories compiled in a single place.

I hope the coming year allows you to keep pushing your project forward!

Scott

"We all have a clean slate" - Brian

I'm not one to make New Year resolutions. I'm kind of a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants type a guy. grin

Anyway, I like the idea of cleaning the slate for the new year.

I've cleaned my slate this year. It's been a tough year. First my sister's husband died, then my mother died several weeks ago. My sister and I have been at odds with each other for a couple years. I won't get into it. Very personal conflicts.

However, the last couple months watching my mother die, a new relationship opened-up between my sister and me. Our relationship is now more like it ought to be. So yes, we're both starting over with a clean slate.

I think I'll add the "clean slate" concept to every new year from now on.

Thanks Brian and Happy New Year

Best, John smile

Some times the slates are sort of hard to clean. All we can do is try really hard!

But let's all try to have the best New Year that we can have!

Bonnie,

Unless you have actual crimes or debt hanging over your head, just about any other slate can be cleared. You just need to forgive yourself and forgive others. Not easy to do, but works if you are willing. I am not all the way there myself. I have a few people I am still hanging on to with much disappointment, sorrow and deeply hurt feelings. But I work to chip away, best I can, to either forgive them or at least forget them and move on, leaving it all behind me for good. No, it's not easy. But it's a burden worth taking off your shoulders if you can.

So true.
And like anything else it gets easier with practice. I am not sure if I have my 10,000 hours of forgiveness in yet. tho it does seem like it at times.

Sometimes it's best to forgive and 100% forget the person at the same time. It's tougher if they are someone that can't so easily be dismissed from your life. But if they can be, DO IT!
