So I entered the contest Niteshift tipped me off to... http://tlnt.at/twuaXTThis is my remix of "Don't Stop Me Now," where voting opens TOMORROW and continues through Dec 21. I would so appreciate any support or show of affection you might feel to muster for me! The grand prize is REALLY COOL.... a 2-day expenses paid trip to London to the studio where _Innuendo_ was recorded, $1000, and all sorts of other cool Queen stuff, AND including Avid Pro Tools. That said - I don't expect to win!! Critique on this one is somewhat pointless, as it's already entered and stuck there, & I only had about 14 hours to beat the deadline by the time I heard about it & decided to run with an entry ... also... I don't know much about what I'm doing but I had fun with the harmonies. It might totally suck, but, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to LEGALLY -- sing WITH FREDDIE'S actual vocals & Queen's actual tracks... FREE... without buying a license or needing permission to "create a derivative work" ... I may be crazy but I couldn't say NO ... to that opportunity. Just saying please vote if you like it... leave me a nice comment out there on the site if you can think of one at all.... and thanks for all your support & friendship. I'm mainly trying not to hyperventilate because the judges of this one are actually Queen & their sound engineers. I kinda have to post and try to forget about it - I feel like crawling under a rock rather than posting this link!!! Meanwhile I am pretty impressed with this website and its creative "campaigns" seem both FREE and 100% legitimate. http://www.talenthouse.com Might be worthwhile to make an account out there if you haven't, set up a portfolio, and take a look around at what other campaigns they're running you could enter! Thanks everyone.... and yes I know, there are flaws (I hear them already) ... but overall I was going for a playful, fun feel. Wish I could have fully workshopped this here with the heavy critique to make solid edits and get some excellent counsel and guidance on this, but there was no time. So - que sera sera! And, just the exercise of creating what was requested, filling the submission guidelines to a T, and clicking PARTICIPATE without chickening out was a Big Deal for me. That all by itself (plus - SINGING WITH FREDDIE!) - is worth it enough OK I've yapped your ears off, as usual Just please don't tell me if it's completely unlistenable. I have to get through Christmas, my kid coming home from college, then another kid getting married and after all that a small surgical procedure looms in the works for me, so, I gotta keep moving and can't REALLY just crawl under a rock pining that I turned in something utterly frightening to every eardrum - which - is always among my greatest fears. If I did oh well.... let's just wait till AFTER all this going on in my life to say so.... ROFL!!! "Public" voting lasts 1 week, and final Winners (3) TBA in mid-January. Not terribly long to wait... thank goodness. Thank you friends!! Linda

Linda, It sounded good over here in Kalamazoo, MI. You kept right up with the Mercury Man. It was fun to listen to it.

Hey Linda, Well, ummm....... interesting...... I know you've already entered, but how about a bit more Linda and a little less Freddie ? You now have the time to mess with it, and come up with more interesting ideas, and it would be better if you shared the vocals 50/50. cheers, niteshift

LOL are you guys serious!! Thanks guys so far! Less Freddie, More Linda.... That is TOOO FUUNNYYYY, I'm so chuckling to myself here. For this contest I felt it was near horrrifying to add any of my own vox at all, but it's not like I could summon Freddie from the dead & say hey what do you think of adding this harmony like this here?? And get him to do it! Lol (or, even if I could AND he agreed, I don't think we have technology to record a ghost voice on tape .... K I am totally joking here!!! Nobody take any of that serious!) All I mean is, the only way I had to get the idea across of "how about this song as a male/female duet?" was to sing it myself, and in a hurry too, to make deadline :-D At least I may have originality & creativity points going for me, because I don't think I have ever heard or seen this song done with two voices (M/F). But adding a dance or club beat, almost everything gets done "club" or "house" mix these days. So that is no big, and likely what they will hear a lot of.They asked for "more modern." Shrug. I still have to find where the other entries are to know how many they got turned in. And wonder how many guitarists took off with more major solos.... Oddly for a Queen song, this one had less than 30 seconds of guitar period. (Piano based, is why) Anyway!! Geoff, Dan, thanks much, and I'll think about adding more vocals... I just don't know, posting any such experiments anywhere else may be where the legality ends!! But yes it would be fun to play with more. I thought about trying an all-acoustic "unplugged" remix just keeping the piano, but it went a different way. I own the Queen Karaoke 2-CD set where they stripped all Freddie's leads, but it doesn't mean it's legal to record my voice over it , do whatever I want vocally & post wherever, willy-nilly. :-D ... Last thing I want is Brian May cheesed off with me. LOL. He answers my emails sometimes!! ....that's the main reason I jumped on this - it was legal, and FREE, no license fees!! Freaks me out Queen may actually hear it. I presume they'll have screeners weed out all but the top for them to go through. But... Curious what the competition is. Made up of, & ## of entrants L

Geoff, you know me well enough, go ahead & define "interesting" if you like.... When I review with the word "interesting" it is often the only nice word I can come up with to say, LOL. But, obviously you liked my vocals well enough to want more so thank you kindly!! QUESTION: Can any of you hear Roger's kick drum track through the piece? I double- tracked it to be sure, but on my speakers the THUMP is not coming thru like it was on my phones. I do hear the snare fill at the bridge but that's all I kept in of the snare/kit tracks & dropped the other perc track entirely. Anyway I'm worried no one will hear it cuz I can't on my tiny speakers or ear buds, & I turned is up high as I could. (I may like kick drum a little too much LOL but, Bonzo IS my fav drummer of all time... LOL) Thx!!

The way your voice popped in and out made the whole piece feel inconsistant. The biggest problem I saw, other than pitchy vocals, was in the timing of your vocal. I realize this must have been difficult to do but it's a contest. I would have worked harder on the timing part. When it's off it seems unrehearsed.

Slow day on the board altogether looks like - happy holidays everyone! I'm too busy too, really. College daughter comes home today from her first semester away!!!
Anyway just a tiny report that it looks like just under 400 entries. Now I'm really going "oh crap" ... I haven't listened to them yet but with that low a figure (under the 1000's) aaaahhhhhh yikes at least 1 of the actual top 4 judges just MIGHT hear this thing themselves instead of just screeners.
Sigh, well.... maybe they'll just go with listening to the popular top voted and judging from there.... lol
I do side with Zeek BTW. Really. I hear all that myself, 'tis all 100% true (as is the usual problems with all my tracks, you could honestly, seriously, write that about anything I've produced to date & be right on the money!! haha)

Hey Linda,
I am not a big Queen fan, but good luck on your re-mix contest.

Hi Kevin!! thanks so much!! Today my submission page says "8 votes left to place in the Top 50" .... this may be a little ridiculous.... but it would be funny if I got there... even for a day, LOL!! As it can't possibly be the bee's knees and isn't. I still have to listen to other entries, but have not had time to compare. Afraid to! Just did this for fun and a lark, peeps! Bit of the "why not?" and "because I can!" attitude never hurt... I hope! LOL! Linda
