Hi guys,

As part of my YouTube revolution and marketing Tim & I decided to cover Kelly Clarkson's song Stronger from her latest album.

If you haven't heard her album yet has a listen it's not bad.

Here is our cover mixed with Apologise by One Republic. I hope you like it. Would love some thoughts on what you think.

Thank you.

James,
I wasn't even going to post, but this drew me in...what a great combo of songs, I love how you put them together and it is funny how that beat runs through them both. I like both of these songs on their own (fan of both) and this sounded great to me.
The high note from the One Republic song that you do at 1:44 and 1:52 (I watched the Youtube vid), I kept feeling like I wanted it sporadically in the 2:00 to 2:26 section.
I enjoyed the vid, nice to see how things are done and the folks on the board, but couldn't stop watching the barre chords being played, I'm learning them in my guitar lessons and they are killing my wrists!!
Great job on this, fun listen for me!!
Tammy

Don't mind the embedding, I've never been able to make it work either..
This is an AWESOME cover! I would love if you would breakdown the production and mixing process of this. Great production, and great musicianship too, of course!
Love the voice, is that you or Tim? Even looks a wee like Ryan Tedder from One Republic :-)
I'm a FAN!

Hey Tams, Thanks hun really glad you liked it. I think I know what you mean with what you want. Yeah we were surprised how well it fit together. Good luck with the bar chords. Damn they hurt for a while. Tom, Thanks man. Glad you liked it. Haha cheers Song cab. I think embedded code is only for the superhero's of this site! Er let me think ok well the song was recorded at mine using Pro Tools and started with the guitar guide that you hear coming in on the Pre Chorus. We had that through the whole song originally. To fatten it out we then added the bass track and some percussion. We used percussion from a program called Kontact. It was about then that I started to lay down the vocals. We have one main vocal and one support vocal pretty much through the whole track. On the chorus I have extra supporting vocals on the "Stronger"and backing ooh's to fill it out. We then went on and designed some of the piano sequences that you can hear. and added a high pad on the chrous. Musically that is it. During the mix is when we rearranged the whole track and removed the guitar from the beginning and put in the piano sequence that you hear which we had originally designed for the chorus only. We set the kick drum up quite high and leveled everything out. The biggest factor in getting the nice sound was when we added a Limiter to the stereo mix. It lifted everything nicely and voila we have the song. We then took my Canon 600d SLR to Tim's place because he has a bit more room for filming and we just filmed us performing the song live from 5 different angles with the backing track in the back ground to ensure we were in sync. I then put the vid together using Sony Vegas. Took me about 12 hours to edit it because Vegas is so processor intensive! That is it. I am the singer and Tim is the dude playing the instruments. Hopefully next year will be a good year for us so fingers crossed I can be in Ryan Tedder's seat in the near future

These are two of my favorite songs and to hear them together like that...well, lets just say your talent amazes me and I will be able to say, I knew you when. You are an awesome talent.

Hi James,
Your vocal performance is the biggest strength to this track(apart from the falseto bits, they need to be stronger, sorry for the unintended pun). It is a little low in the mix for me though. I think it so good that it carries the other instruments and needs to be a little more prominant especially in the choruses. It really packs a punch but the other instruments never really come in behind it. LOVE the change in the middle. It really works, and again your vocal delivery of this section is the most interesting thing. I'm not that familiar with the original but though I like this version, I wouldn't revisit it because, apart from the vocals, there's very little that's remarkable. Maybe its the old rocker in me but I can't help wanting it to rock up a bit towards maybe in the last chorus instead of it being a virtual repeat of the previous choruses.

Thank you Kim. Your support is overwhelming and very very appreciated.
Ken. Your thoughts and feedback really help us along. If we were doing this as our old music we would holy yeah develop the songs more but for YouTube it seems that this kind of production is about all we need to get enough interest.
