Hey Guys, Recieved an email from youlicence.com regarding a new distribution idea, still in beta.... http://vibedeck.com/?src=youlicenseAnyone tried this ? I think I'm at the point where the time involved may not be worth the effort. Any thoughts ? cheers, niteshift

Hi Niteshift,
If I remember well, this reminds me of Bandcamp in the beginning, they also had said "we're well funded and will never charge for our service". Now they do charge 15%. Also be aware of Paypal fees, they ad up! So if you have sale prices under $12 per sale you better create a 'microsale' PayPal account to save lots.

Actually Bandcamp said that they weren't charging "now" (when they first started) but it was clearly stated that they might charge at some point. I remember all that at start up time. Everett -- doesn't your public library (or somewhere) have computers with hi-speed access? You could go there with all your wav files on a USB card and upload them. Or if you have a wi-fi capable laptop, you could seek out a establishment that has wi-fi. There has got to be a solution for your internet speed problem.

How long does it take to upload a three minute song in wav quality on high speed? On a "slow" DSL (760kbs) a 30MB wav file would take a little more than 5 minutes (give or take). On a faster Cable modem (2,048kbs) it would be just over 2 minutes. on a 56kbs dial-up -- ~ 1 hour 15 minutes.

I always question ANY spam email. I mean if that is how they start their relationship with you (random spam) it doesn't really suggest much good will come out of it. Legit companies partner with people who already have direct experience with their communities and partner up with them or run some ads. Just buying a list that has been created by spambots or by other list aggregators is sleazy in my opinion. Yuck.
I always ask folks to show me how they got my address. Have never had one answer it honestly.

VibeDeck is now integrated into Soundcloud - which is a huge achievement. Also, I have met with the CEO of VibeDeck to chat business and whatnot and he is absolutely a great person (He's in his 30s fyi). From talking to him I got that their mission is to simplify the process of hosting music tremendously. Their focus is on that and the artist keeping profits.
I definitely support VibeDeck, they have a great team and are smart about their business. Wishing them the best. Anyone mind forwarding that email? Curious as to know what they're writing, etc. Ardon@ticketometer.com
Also, I have an email I send out in regards to my company. Anyone want to see it and give me feedback? I have had a lot of positive feedback from it and a pretty high reply rate (4-5% or so.. should do the actual calculation sometime).

Great to hear, Lior is a wealth of knowledge. We had a lot to talk about... Both being start ups in the music/tech industry.
Never need an excuse to spend a day in Hollywood either. The weather was perfect.

Thanks for sharing this one with us. I'll probably sit this one out. PayPal is a real "turn-off" as far as I'm concerned. Lots of scam artists phishing around pretending to be PayPal. I wish someone would come up with an ironclad method of making and receiving payments. It's just too risky now.
The other negative is the requirement for WAV files. Much too long and time consuming... besides, 90% of the paying public can't tell the difference.
Regardless, my best wishes to them for success.
