Hey Iggy, I hear ya there, man.... however, for me, these songs (and a bunch of others way too many to mention) are more like "comfort food" now than they are a "WOW! What an amazing song!". They remind me of days gone by; moments in history as well as a way to share a commonality with others. Be it at a concert or on the radio.
Admittedly, Radar Love is one of my favorite cruising songs. I always sing along to American Pie no matter where I am as well as Hotel California and Stairway to Heaven.
But I'm just as apt to turn off the radio in the middle of any of these for any reason whatsoever...
Peace
Dave

Poison's... Talk Dirty To Me....Hey, I absolutely love classic rock, but this one annoys me big time....
Although I do love alot of Poison songs....i.e. Every Rose Has It's Thorn, especially.

Well, YOU AIN'T NOTHING BUT A HOUND DOG. Now there's a Classic Rock song. Ain't it hell what Elvis started. I guess it's too late to hang him. Rats! After a while it all starts to run together, doesn't it?

Sorry, Janice. Talk Dirty To Me will always hold a special place in my heart. When I bought the album all those years ago my then girlfriend listened to it too. It was the first 80's rock song she ever heard, and she's been hooked ever since.
We'll be celebrating our 20th here in a couple of weeks. We still look at each other and smile each time we hear it on the radio, and sometimes even "rock out" to it.
She's a closet Brett Michaels groupie, along with Jon Bon Jovi (which I penned a nice tribute to her infatuation to him a while ago).
So, Bon Jovi and Poison will forever be an integral part of our lives..
Peace
Dave

I don't see mention of anything from Pink Floyd. Money? The Wall? Where do they play "Cmon Eileen" today? The problem is not with these lists of classic rock songs they are GREAT songs no matter what. And great records to boot. The problem is with the classic ROCK radio station in your town. In New York it was WNEW 102.7 for a while and K Rock 104.3 The problem is they play the SAME one or two songs from the SAME band... Over & Over year after year after year. We used to turn it off at work... Comfortably Numb - Pink FloydCasey Jones or We Will Get By (Whatever it is) The Dead Born To Run - Bruce Purple Haze - Hendrix Misunderstanding - Genesis Ramblin Man/Jessica - Allmans Start Me Up/Honky Tonk Woman - Stones Ba Ba / Wont Get Fooled Again - The Who Smoke On The Water/Hush - Deep Purple Aqualung/Bungle In The Jungle - Tull LIght My Fire/Touch Me - Doors Stairway/Whole Lotta Love/Black Dog - Zeppelin Paranoid/War Pigs - Sabbath Roundabout/All Good People - Yes WE Will Rock You/ We Are The Champions - Queen Walk This Way/ Dream On - Areosmith Beatles - Varied wider And on & on & on.... These listeners are the real FANS they know everysong so.... keep them happy.. How about instead one day.... In The Light/Royal Orleans - Zeppelin However Much I Booze /Dreaming From The Waist - The Who Memory Motel - The Stones Ripples - Genesis Rat Bat Blue - Deep Purple I'm In Love - Robin Trower Dirty Woman/Killing Yourself To Live - Black Sabbath Time An A Word/Going For The One - Yes Seven Seas/Show Must On - Queen Warchild/Black Sunday - Tull Rats In The Cellar/Get The Led Out - - Areosmith Etc.... It's the radio and those who control it as usual that is what causes the suck factor, just like it does today in mainstream. I'm glad though back then that stations played songs like Roundabout so I could find my way to GREAT music and great musicians and too concerts worth staying on line overnight for

I agree with Mike..They are great records one and all which is why they've been burnt beyond recognition. I'm actually a fan of most the afformentioned bands. Unimaginative, repetitive playlists on the part of Classic Rock radio has bred unimaginative listeners and vice-versa.It's a vicious cycle.

Well, I like most of the old rock 'n' roll, and I realize it's because I grew up with it. I can also play a lot of it pretty decently. With the new, I-didn't-grow-up-with-this-stuff stuff, I tend to be more critical of the writing--and most of the writing, frankly, is pretty bad. I can take care of the "I never want to hear it again" issue by not listening to it. That's why I don't have a radio in my truck, and at the house, the last time I had commercial radio on was when we were having the tsunami back in March.

I don't know about Rock songs but the one that will drive me insane is maybe one American folks won't know. "Where do you go to my lovely". It was a big hit in the late 1960's by a guy called Peter Sarsted. AAAAAAAAAAAARGH! It goes on and on and on and on and on and on. The same dreary tune. No bridge no chorus, just verse after verse, on and on and on and on .......... I defy anyone to listen to it in full and live. Vic

Vic--I must be some kind of masochist, because after reading your post about the Peter Sarsted song, I just had to look it up on youtube. Wow! You were sooooo right. That one is a real stinker.
Speaking of McCartney, his "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime" is enough to make me run screaming from the room. I think it actually has the ability to deprive me of the Christmas spirit. Ha ha.

Listening today, I don't know why any of us thought Peter Frampton was such a big deal. Was it the talk box? I cringe when I hear "Show Me The Way" and "Do You Feel Like We Do."
I agree with many of the songs that have been mentioned, and frequently wonder, when I hear them now, what it was about them that was so appealing back in the day. I've come to the conclusion that a lot of it has as much to do with our simply getting older as it does with the songs being played to death.
And in all fairness, there are some that still make me turn up the volume when they come on: "Burnin' For You" (BOC),"Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Somebody To Love" (Queen), and "On The Turning Away" (Pink Floyd), to name a few.
Great thread.

Oh yeah, I still think ACDC's "You Shook Me All Night Long" is a fun song. I haven't grown tired of that one yet.

Speaking of McCartney, his "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime" is enough to make me run screaming from the room. I think it actually has the ability to deprive me of the Christmas spirit. Ha ha. LOL!!! That is really funny! And for some,,,probably true. I can picture you strolling through a department store around Christmas time, in a great mood with some extra cash to do some shopping.. You're feeling REALLY good and seasonal. THEN,,,The first few sounds of that song ring through the store! YOU run of it, into the mall, only to find it's playing there too! Your car is at the other end of the mall,,,so you try to run outside quickly, to get away form that song. You;re now throwing the gifts down to get more running speed. Now you're empty handed and running like a sprinter for the summer Olympics! YOU get to the door,,,but crap! It's being fixed, and there's warning cones and Don;t Cross tapes all around the door. BUT, you see a space to jump over the cones and bust through the tape, as if you just won that Olympic sprint! You're outside,,,,,free of that song! But, your mood is still not good. You think, "Damn, I really did just loose my Christmas spirit". So, you walk on the sidewalk along the mall buildings, down toward your car. You are starting to feel a little better. Then better yet. You know you can't go back in yet, for your sprint only took up 11 seconds from the department store to the curb! So, you think,,,"OK, I'll go my car, get some chocolate I have in there, and go back in a few, after I compose myself even more, and have some GREAT chocolate". That always makes you feel better....I Know! You get to your car, and since it's cold, you turn it on. WHAT'S THIS!???? The radio was on?! And you guessed it!,,,,, "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time"! LOL!

I don’t think either of these can be classed as classic rock, but I’ll throw them in anyway: Wonderful Tonight – Eric Clapton – let’s face it, it’s a dirge Isn’t She Lovely – Stevie Wonder – Maybe she is but the song definitely isn’t

Do you know I got to learn how to be consistent and keep time when doing fills on drums by playing Wipeout s few hundred times on my hi fi from Sears when I was 14 and 15? Besides, if my mother asked me to play Wipeout most days,,,for the next two years, then it's good enough for "anybody" to keep hearing it! There! Take Wipeout OFF the list now Mister!!! Where's my sticks?,,,,,Well I'll show you!
