{Every rare Now-&-Then I pen a Religious Song...}

Christians Tend to Scare Me
They're ALWAYS So-Damn-SURE
THEIRS is the ONLY Way-to-GO
(But I Worry "Are Their Motives..Pure?")

(&) Jews, Love Their Food & Sense-of-Humor
Their Cantors can Really SING!
They're on Good Behavior, Waitin' for a Savior
(But I can Barely-Pronounce..A Thing!)

(CHORUS)
So I'LL KEEP MY OPTIONS OPEN
I Think "I'll STILL Be ALL-RIGHT"
I'LL KEEP MY OPTIONS O-PEN, Thank-You SO-MUCH
(& Any Day Now, I'll SEE..THE LIGHT!)

& I'm Real Fond of Hindus
..EXCEPT for Their Sacred Cows..
(Their Pecking-Order for Reincarnation
Makes Me GLAD That I'm Human..Now!) (Yeah..)

(REPEAT CHORUS)

(BRIDGE)
Who Am I To SAY "The Egyptians Were Wrong"
(I Worship The Sun a Little-Bit..Myself)
I Enjoy Bein'-a-Man with a Bit-of-a-Tan
While Strad'lin'-The-Fence..for Health!

& Some Of My Friends Are Muslims
(With NO Trace of A Terrorist Whim)
They're ALL God-Fearin' (I find THAT Endearin')
& Most-of-'Em Fit-Right-In!

(CHORUS)
But I'LL KEEP MY OPTIONS OPEN
Right Up-To The Bitter END...
HOPING to Speak with God..HIMSELF
& Hopin' He'll SEE.."We're Friends!"

(TAG)
I'LL KEEP MY OPTIONS OPEN (THAT'S How It IS..)
Even IF God is..A WO-MAN!

(SUNG)
AND He Probably IS...

Stan, I must confess, I like your title, easier to take in IMO

Song flows nicely, and the topic I like very much.

I am a Christian now, but you point the other faiths and you seem not taking in by any faith or religion.

Singer wants the facts straight from God himself; points out you believe in God. God has no sex.

Up my ally of interest.

HiDee TennesseeBro!

I got 5 minutes before La Femme's "Let's go out to eat" Voice hits terminal velocity..it's Saturday Night Out Time..heh!

I'm not really "Procrastinating". I've made up my mind, Yes, there IS a God. (With Caring, AND Certain Expectations.)

Not all of which are THAT Clear to me..but I keep my mind Open at All Times.

I'll dodge the "Arabs" change...There ARE Arabian Christians...(& I once met a Vietnamese Baptist, too.) I've got good Muslim Friends & Customers..&..like Bikers, they too have to deal with that "2%"...or maybe it's even less..that's given 'em a lotta Bad PR. But..there ARE Evil Diehard Christians that terrorize Gays & blow up Abortion Clinics & Federal Office Bldgs.
WHY Tar the Whole Bunch with the same brush? (& MOST have only One Wife & are Kind to their Kids.)

My "Praying" is more of a "Meditating"..& it's Frequent..heh!

Gotta Scoot..I'll be back later to check closer all the Very Kind Sugs Ya Sent Me, Kind Bro!

Best Weekend Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug,
Stan

HiDee Mz Petra, & Thanks for the Kind Visite, M'LadyChum!

I've already noted you're both a "Seeker"..and a "Sharer"..(Haven't had time yet to Thankya for the Older Writer's Site...really enjoyed my "Peek" there/joined-up, too!)

I'm fascinated by all things Living..Planetary..& Universal..and the How-&-Why of it all. If, as Christians believe, "We're made in God's Image", God does have sex. Maybe Both..but to me that's not All-Important..I just tend to think Life-Giving/Nurturing seems a More Feminine Attribute.

Among the First Life on this planet, the one celled organisms were ETERNAL...only hadda divide...& Sex came along Later...& along with it..death. But..give a Euglena enough sunlight & nutrients & a decent environment, it can divide & live FOREVER.

So..heh-heh..maybe we got the short end of the Sex deal...I dunno.

Anyways, I'll PM ya later & we'll have some fun with the Deity Issues...I always enjoy a good chat (Non-Debate)...& I rarely change Anyone's Mind about "What They Believe"...

Gotta Scoot...she's "Are You Ready"ing in the Upper Registers!

Best Weekend Wishes & Big Hugs Backatcha

Stan,

I had to read this, think about it, then come back and read it again. It seems to me that it has a humor to it... it touches a serious and sometimes contentious issue - religion, but i think i come away with a couple general feelings i think i've always shared...

1. who am i to disrespect someone else's beliefs
2. who is to say any of them are right... i suppose one day we'll each get to find out TRUTH... we're probably all wrong, to some extent at least

So, i can't really come up with any suggestions to improve or change anything here. I like the message - it is strong, but not judgmental or preachy and it really comes through with your solid, earthy, straight language.

It's easy to see how this would sing because you have a clear, consistent meter and rhymes...

I agree with Petra - i favor your title... it has that twinge of humor and captures your main message/hook...

I agree with you - keep Muslims... your verses go religion by religion... Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, even give a nod to the Egyptians... so Muslim seems consistent.

My only question is... do the Buddhists hold the cow sacred? I know Hindus do, believing cows to be their reincarnated ancestors, i think. I was unaware that Buddhists do, too... though i think they have some similar reincarnation views...

Very nice song lyric, Stan!

I think one of the moderators here or over at another site has a quote in their signature line that i found interesting and seems to fit your lyric somewhat:

"The greatest tragedy in mankind's entire history may be the hijacking of morality by religion.” Arthur C. Clarke

HiDee Brother Gordon...(Hmmm...a fellow Ohioan who likes cigars? My Kinda Guy!!!)

Good Catch on the mis-assignment of the Buddhists on that Cow Verse. Big Thanks!!!

I find Religion, Politics, and Death all almost REQUIRE a bit of Humor to pen lyrics about 'em, or they seem to end up bleak & preachy.

The mention of the Egyptians is deservedly-so, since their worship of Amon/Amun..led to Monotheism..& the Christians saying "Amen" at the end of each prayer.

Thanks for sharing a Great Quote, Amigo! One of my customers, Dr Robert Hobart (Heir to the Hobart appliance Fortune) quoted me "Morality applies only to the Middle Class" once-upon-a-time...which was a bit of Brilliant Historical Insight, methinks.

I've forgotten which Frenchman once stated something like "It's best to believe there's a God, just in case there is." Although it was Jean-Paule Sartre who commented "Who needs An Afterlife? This one's been bad-enough"...or something close to that.

Me, I guess "An Open Mind" is as good-as-it-gets here...& yep, I'm sure we'll ALL end up knowing "The Truth" about 15 seconds after rigor-mortis sets in.

Many Thanks for Your Kind Visit, Amigo!
Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug,

Well, relating to the last post, Mick Jagger has lived long enough to grow old, and next week Bob Dylan turns 70. There is going to be a Dylan b'day bash on a local radio station that evening.

As far as song goes, the title should be kept, as it applies not just to religion but all areas of life, up to and including what to have for supper. There is a whole gamut of religious sects from those who are, if anything, too restrained right up and including those who try to convert everybody. Give me a happy medium church any day.

Peace,
Brian

Hey Stan
Another solid piece of work, I agree that we should take most things like religion and politics with a pinch of salt and a
smile. and as usual you've struck a nice balance with humour
and seriousness.

Nice Job

Hey - glad i could contribute... i didn't know for sure about Buddhists... i knew Hindus have the sacred cow thing going, and is often misunderstood by us westerners as worshipping cows... but as i think your lyric also points out, it is more of a reincarnation/ancester thing with that...

Are you originally from Ohio? Cool! Where from?

i was in Tampa for a solid waste convention (that's right, i'm a garbage man!) in October 2008. Stayed in a great hotel between the convention center and the Tampa Bay Lightning Arena. Went to a Lightning game one night, also went to the aquarium and a real nice bar on teh second level of an outdoor mall by the cruise ship dock... they had accoustical guitar out on teh patio... and outdoor bar... awesome bartender, very funny and engaging, that reminded me of Kevin James...

that was a great convention/seminar!

Hi New OhioAmigo!

I forgot just WHICH Religion venerated those cows...glad ya caught it...don't wanna tick any Budhists off..heh!

Yep, Born in Ohio...Euclid Glenville Hospital, Cleveland. Elementary School in Parma..Jr & Sr High at Berea (We lived in Olmsted Falls Township..PO-Wise.) Suburban Sprawl..into what was still partly Country & Family Farms..with a Railroad runnin' thru just 8 blocks away.

Ended up goin' to Wooster College...Art Major..where my Grandma, Uncles, Mom & First Dad (met there), Brother Doug..& Cousin Joella all went, too. (So I guess ya could call it our "Family School"...tho neither of my sons went there.) (Joella's daughter did...so the Rumor Persists.)

WOULD'VE been a Cartoonist at Hi-Brows Cards in Cleveland (I passed an interview there upon Graduation...but then they saw I was "1-A" in the "military status" blank...& said "See us after you've done your military service."

Which, since the Sterling Dep't of Education'd torpedoed their Art Teacher Post I'd applied-for, due to lack of funds, meant I was "en-route to 'Nam", as soon as I finished all the formalities. DID end up a Cartoonist my last 8 months in Pleiku, but it's a longer story how!

Hey, I DON'T knock garbage...it's just crumpled up Riches..that some idiots tossed away. (But us Idiots don't have the Transportation & Extraction & Filtration Equipment you Garbologists Do...so you're entitled to get wealthy.)

MOST of my dwindling fortune's been-made by breathing new life into elderly clocks & nearly-discarded Old Fans. (I kinda plundered Europe's flea markets for 5 years after the Nam Experience..shipping 14,000 lbs of "Old Junk" back to the US on my & several friends' Military Moves.)

What you're describing is called Tampa's "Channelside District"..& it's fairly new..having some difficulty, restaurant-wise, with attendance-vs-rents. But wifey & I've been to the movie theater there many a time/it's in competition with Tampa's Ybor City..to be kinda the Ultimate Local Entertainment Area. (There's a trolly there that'll take ya to Ybor..cheaply, too.)

Glad ya liked our little Sunshiny Town. My Buddy/Tampa Trib Columnist Steve Otto's nicknamed Tampa "The Big Guava", which has sorta stuck...& he pioneered "Guavaween" & used to ride a float in the Annual Parade..(Until..shall we say..it got maybe TOO Spicy for a Family Man to be Out On A Float after-dark there.) But..that's for the wilder, artsier Ybor Folks...vs the Pirates & "Gasparilla" for the Well-to-Do's.

So..tell me about Your Ohio Town there...& maybe I still got a few memories of it. (I used to pick thru the trashcans in the early AMs on my Plain Dealer Paper Route..on Trash Collection Day! Know we're kindred spirits..heh-heh!)

Best Wishes/Big Guy-Hug,
Stan

PS: Ah.."Columbus"! 2 of my College drinkin' buddies are State Rep & Senator there...Ted Celeste & Tom Sawyer. (I've forgotten which-is-which.) Both are truly Great Men, even tho they're Democrats.

I think of our God as a mischievous little boy who has a mean streak. He gave us a cool place to live but then pitted us against each other like tin soldiers.....Muslims against Christians, Arabs against Jews and so on. And occasionally he gets mad and kicks the Earth and causes an earthquake or blows on it to create a hurricane.

Hush Yo Mouth, NearNeighborGuy...She's a LISTENIN'!!! Heh-heh!

Read somewhere that Black/White/Red/Brown Characteristics only developed in the last 2,000 years.

Maybe we ALL got along a Lot Better before then? I wonder sometimes.

As for Planetary Disturbances...perhaps The Deity's real-busy minding them OTHER 8-or-so Dimensions & this stuff just Slips-By...

(Since Our Hemisphere's WAY-Overdue for another Ice Age, maybe we oughta just GO Ahead & Burn MORE Petroleum...ya never know!)

"Damned if we DO..Damned if we DON'T"... (Sounds like a FUN hook, don't it?) ;-)>

Stay Tuned!~ Thanks for Your Kind Visit/Right-On Observations too!

Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug,
Stan
