Hello guys,

This will probably be my last post for a while on here as I am switching computers and this site doesn't recognize my email address, password or anything about me every time I try to sign back on. A problem I find with these sites are that they are doing so much security that it gets very difficult for some of us to even find our way back on.

This is the last day for this computer so if you don't hear from me, just know that it is the security here that is keeping me out.

You guys have a good day.

That makes no sense at all Marc. smile
I have been here for a long time and still have the same name, password and e-mail although I have updated my password a time or two for my own security purposes (everyone should)
I have changed computer a few times plus I log in from different computers as well. I have never had a problem logging in.

I know Tampa Stan had an issue with his login. Not sure what caused that.

Well we'll be watching for your return.

Hey Marc:

I've logged into JPF from all kinds of places and machines with no problems.

Sure, a different computer won't automatically know your user name and password - but if you just type them in yourself there shouldn't be an issue.

You mention JPF has a problem with your e-mail?
JPF doesn't log in with e-mail it logs in with your user name.
Marc Barnette or whatever you set up your account with.

Maybe it's because you spell Burnette wrong. smile

Actually my user name was changed to kevin emmrich awhile ago -- but that is not what I login with. I login with my original login name.

I recently was unable to login; had the correct id and password...so I clicked on forgot password..they sent a new one but said my old would work too.

So I went back and used old password and then it worked.

Something is wrong with the system...now I have explorer 8 and still I have to click on under tools compatbility

When I am on this computer, I stay logged in. Everytime I have ever gotten off this computer, every way I re-type in my email, my sign in name, my password, the message says "We don't recognize any of this information." it has happened every time. Even trying to resent my information or even re-register (which is really funny because when I re-register it says "Someone else is already using this name.)

Me and technology. Don't get along very well.

You don't log in with your DISPLAY name which is what people on line see. It's your original USER name.

I use 6 different computers to log on with (3 laptops, 2 desktops and my cell phone) and all of them remember my info once I allow it to save my info via a cookie. If you turn off cookies, you have to log in every time.

Marc, I realize you have tech troubles, but please don't claim it's our boards which use the same simple log in type system as every other site that has a log in. Geez... and it's not even a JPF thing. It's the standard method the manufacturer of this board which millions of people use without incident around the web.

By the way Marc, your user name is your email address because you typed it in that way. So you have to type your email address is as the user name (all in the same original case: MBarne4908@aol.com) to log in with your password. If ever you click "forgot password" it will send your USER name (which is at the very top of your profile in MY STUFF) to you with a temp password (without changing your original password as long as you don't log in with the temp one, then you need to change it to something you can remember).

All this is standard stuff. User Names are CASE and S P A C E sensitive.

Use the browser Firefox http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/ , Marc. It remembers everything for you, so if you forget log-on stuff (I do too), you can just open it up and find it.

Hey, downloaded Foxfire from your link, works faster, more so than explorer 8 what I had. However the font is looking like courier style font, fainter than when using explorer, wonder why?

Hmmm

Hello,

I am back on for a minute, finally after weeks of trying to make this happen, it did allow me back. One thing I don't need are lectures upon MY processes at signing on when it THESE security processes that tell me THEY don't recognize me as a member, don't recognize my password that I use on every site I am on and then making me to feel like I am at fault when I do every single thing I am told to do.

Brian if that is the way you want to do this, I can understand. It is your site. But I don;'t have to be insulted by you or anyone else on here.

Good day.

By the way, everytime I typed in my email YOU are the one that already had my password information. Then I was told "I WAS NOT RECOGNIZED AS A MEMBER. It was already typed in. Maybe you need to check your own security procedures.

songcabinet,

I find it a lot faster and now able to work on my website, as before very sluggish and frozen when using Explorer.

Thanks again

Where did I attack you Marc? I looked into why you were having a problem and saw that unlike most registrations, your user name is not a name but your email address and it's CASE and S P A C E sensitive unlike a regular email address is and I can easily see how that might cause you a problem. I did not CHOOSE anything... the security is built into this off the shelf software which can't even be changed as an admin. Unless you want to find the money to pay a programmer to custom make a message board for a free web site, then please be a little reasonable. We rarely get any complaints about the boards as the company that makes it does a good job and most of it is industry standard ways of doing things. Why the hostility? That's the reward for trying to help you.

And for the record, I can't see anyone's password. Only the person who controls the account via the email address that signed up and their own control panel via the My Stuff area can access or even get a temporary password. I can't see your password or anyone else's unless you share it with me. Period.

Why do people get angry and blame innocent people and make false claims against people who are simply trying to help. I asked you to please not claim our boards are at fault. They aren't. If you can log in once, the process does not change. It asks for the same info each time from any computer. If you have it set to allow cookies, it will remember the log in for you for 1 year and then you have to log in again. That is all built into the software and can't be changed by me. And most people desire some reasonable level of security to protect their account from being used by someone else or their personal private messages from being seen by someone else. I am not sure why you find fault with something that Amazon does and pretty much every site I use on the net. If you have a better way, please tell the manufacturer as I have nothing to do with how they build it. I am not a programmer.

I am not sure why you are so angry but I haven't done anything wrong to you. You've offered a lot of positive advice here and you've also gotten business from our members in return for your Nashville services. Why ruin it all because you don't like a simple log in process that we can't change to your preference?

Yeah, and if your password for some reason doesn't show, you can relocate all your passwords in the preferences menu. I should get paid to plug thir stuff, but hey, they don't even charge themselves :-)

I login with no probs and nobody else seems to have the prob Marc has.....once or twice I have screwed up and typed the wrong login details or forgotton my password...but hey it is easy to rectify. An automatic email resets it or gives me a temp password. I have also changed computers several times since joining JPF and never had a prob.....so long as my email address stays the same. The system works and works well.....Marc must be doing something wrong but is blaming the system.

Maybe you can earn money from those affiliated programs; place ad on your website, or maybe you do this already.

Thanks SC.

Still figuring out all the features! You have to be a tech to figure all this stuff.

I am going to defend Marc here. I bought my first computer in 1984 and have used one pretty much every day, heavily, since. I have built dozens of websites. From scratch. I not an expert of anything but I certainly know more than most about using websites. And this board, on a few occasions, has gone screwball with my login process. No explanation.

And Brian, I have never, not once to my knowledge, ever said anything negative about you. But I will now speak, as I have been tempted to before. I have noted on several occasions over the these many years that you sometimes have a holier-than-thou attitude. And it's getting worse. I know you have medical problems, so, perhaps that has something to do with it. But you did insult Marc. Yes, it's your board, I suppose, but your members make your board what it is. Without members, JPF would be nothing more than your personal blog.

I, personally, think you should look in the mirror sometimes and reassess how you come across online, as we all should. You don't know everything, Brian.

Peace to all.

I went through the mill on this Setup once-before/gave-up & just RE-enlisted with a Space between my Moniker..& started-again from Zero.

Brian then decided to Join-the-2..& zap went my 2001 Joined-On Date & Avatar.

What's Wrong with The System is there's no EASY Retrieval of one's Original Password. Sure, you CAN get a "Temporary" (UN-memorizable) Password...Daily..but, frankly, it's a pain-in-the-butt to do-so daily.

The Security here is SO good it manages to alienate the Folks who wanna Post here. SO..I'd propose a bitta added code to handle those of us who "Forgot Your Password?" and allow us to get the OLD ONE back up & running again.

Brian, I Loves Ya..Marc, You're Missed.

Best Wishes & a Couplea Big Guy-Hugs,
Stan

PS: The "Annual" Re-Newing Bit is also a Bit of a Mystery to we The Computer-Challenged. WHY is is even Necessary? LESS is definitly MORE, when it comes to Computer Commands. (There's NO "Annual Renewing" on Facebook/Hotmail...etc-etc-etc.)

Well,
When I joined and was sent my password I wrote it down and it is here somewhere in my Stack-Of-Stuff. One time I discovered I wasn't Logged in. As soon as I typed part of my user name the rest showed up and all I had to do was click on the visiable password and Presto! I was logged in! SO, if you have problems getting on I suggest you delete the Web Site, go to your trash bin, delete that, then use a search engine to find J.P. Folks again and try to log in using the same proceedure. I think your Computer saves your info and may get confused finding your info so this may help clear it up. Anyway that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Foxfire remembers your username and password, great program. You just type first letter and it will show up and just click the full name or email and it pops in the blank space.

Miz. Petra

The type of browser you use is important. As when using explorer 8, didn't remember username/password, and the viewer you had to click on each time, don't have to do this with Foxfire it is automatically sets this for you.

All around Foxfire far the best I have used.

Stan,

You don't just keep getting and using temporary passwords. You simply change your password after logging in the first time to something you remember and going forward that is your password.

People mistakenly use their display names instead of their user names (which you create yourself when you first log in and it never changes). Stan, you had a WebTV login which made things more difficult for you I believe. You used that thing longer than anyone else I know. When we looked at user stats, we'd have all the different brower types each with 10's of thousands of users who had visited and at the bottom, we'd have 1 webtv and I knew who that was until you stopped and now it doesn't show up anymore. Are there still folks using those? Do they even work?

Anyway, the site works just fine for nearly everyone. Write down your user name (at the top of your info on your profile page) as that will always be the same and is attached to your first registration date.

I have always been more than happy to help folks if they ask. If you don't ask, or are unwilling to follow some help to fix your individual problem, don't blame the boards, JPF or me. It's user error. If the boards were defective, no one could use them.

Brian

Yes Brian it works for nearly everybody and am sure those that it does not work for can get help to make it work. Now I disagree with you on a lot of things mostly political but I am 100% behind you on this.

I believe Marc did say it was "user error" up there in his post... that he and technology don't always get along....

there are ghost-in-the-machine glitches every so often - I've seen it happen -- I'll have a problem with my machine, phone, or iPod (over and over) finally call over my hubby and he looks at it, and lo and behold the thing behaves for him.

Shrug.

MAB is great for the boards -- hope ya can figure it out here sooner or later on the new machine -- still, if anyone needs a MAB fix all you gotta do is run a search on his name on YouTube. He's all over the place! LOL

Duke,

Where exactly did I attack or insult Marc? I have read what I said above over and over. I supplied the info he needed to log in. Unlike most user names, his happens to be a complete email address which is unusual. I think it might be his problem when trying to log in because user names are CASE and S P A C E sensitive unlike regular email addresses, which could also be causing him trouble. When I have to log in from a new location, I have to type my entire name in with the same spacing and capital letters exactly as it is on my user name (not display name). Now for many people those two things are the same, but for Marc, they are not. Based on his constant trouble, and from years of doing this, it's my best guess on what might be causing him trouble. Rather than asking me directly via a PM or email, both of which he has, or my phone number or skype which are easy to find if he wanted to go that route, he posted here. So I tried to help him here. And my effort to help is an attack or insult? It's being holier than thou that I am asking him not to attack me, JPF or the message boards when this is a case of user error? If software is broke, it doesn't just choose 1 or 2 people to single out, it is broke. Even if it was erratic, it wouldn't choose 1 or 2 people and let everyone else use it without trouble. And since he got on from his regular computer to post here, it would appear the problem is when he's logging in from a computer that doesn't remember him. He may also not be aware that the board only remembers log ins for 1 year (and it tells you that the first time you ask it to remember your log in). So everyone, including me, has to log in each year.

Stan had a different set of issues. Instead of logging in and changing his password to what he wanted, he was requesting a new password every time he logged in. That is not how it works. Should I not explain that either?

Seriously, even in the face of attacks I have tried to the best of my ability to help these folks and anyone else who asks. My PMs are full daily of people asking for all types of help and I do what I can to help them. Due to health issues it's quite an ordeal many times for me to even type without severe pain. But I do the best I can. I don't deserve the attack from you either Duke. What exactly did I do to you for you to attack me? Name a time when I have done you wrong?

For the record, I had to defend this entire community from insults and attacks on a previous occassion from someone on this very post when they said they weren't wasting any more time here. And it wasn't me, at that time, that he was attacking (at least not directly). But I stood up for everyone involved here to him and he ended up coming back and became a positive part of things and from all accounts, has done very well in return from many members here who have paid him to help them out. And now some of those I had to defend are attacking me because I tried to help him log on? Seriously?

I went back and read Brian's post. I can't see how it can be construed as anything other than helpful. My username is different than my original login name (Kevin Emmrich versus kemmrich), so I understand the issue.

Of course, I have web apps where one or two users' NT passwords never work -- ?????? So I had to program a workaround for those one or two users. Stuff happens.

Hello,

I am able to post again. The information that was already on this site would not let me in. I would type the first letter of my name and all of the rest of the information, would appear automatically. When I typed to log in, it said it did not recognize me as a member. Attempts to reset the password did not work either. Then as strangely as it would not let me in, it started letting me in. I didn't do anything other than what I have always done.

I am not attacking anyone, only stating what has happened and what has not happened. And by the way it has been intermittent as well. One time it will let me on and some times it won't let me on. I don't do anything different.

The insult comes from being told I am doing something I am not doing.

Marc,

That is your WEB BROWSER, NOT OUR MESSAGE BOARD!!!! Our message board does NOT fill in the fields for you, your web browser does. Most likely you have used a different email or password on a different login somewhere on the web and your browser is trying to fill in the fields for you. That is not our fault. Please speak with someone you know who will verify this because apparently no matter what I say, you simply will not believe.

Seriously Marc, you're the one doing the insulting now by refusing to acknowledge I know what I am talking about and the problem is 100% NOT our message board.

Cmon folks it is just a simple case of backwoods Country folk versus new fangled technology...the two just do not mix....we have to make allowances for their lack of education poor knowledge and quaint old fashioned ways. Lets face it most of us would be out of our depths cracking corn, picking cotton or harnessing a horse to a cart.

Darn Guys:

I never thought I'd say it in public... but I actually miss 'Ol Marc Alan and his interesting posts. C'mon back you big Kahuna and I'll promise not to argue with you so much... LOL!

Yep, I've picked cotton... but I never cracked corn. Still, I've been to a half dozen county fairs and a goat roping. Does that qualify me?

Watch it, Nigel! LOL! Grope indeed!

Roy, in Texas and other Southern States... a Goat Roping is a grand event... well maybe not so grand as a Royal Wedding (which I've been up since before dawn watching) but spectacular in it's on rite! Please accept my congratulations to your Spectacular Nation for the pageantry and grandeur of this wedding... and for sharing it with the world.

Dave,

Just a thanks for the support.

You guys are so funny, just reading your posts can uplifet anybody's day.

Saw recaps of the wedding, lovely couple..think they will last, truly in love.

Roy and Nigel, wonder if you live near the Buckingham Palace?
Streets were filled, amazing.

Back to the horse and buggy, though not for the Menonites, out in the Kitchener Area, they never stopped using them;live like a 100 years ago. They farm the land and cook/bake from scratch. Long dresses and were hats. Very interesting folks.

No Music allowed.
