JUST ME AND MY RESONATOR--ANOTHER BLUZ UP FOR CRITIQUE http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10501212A LOTTA O’ SOUL -- LIVES IN THE BLUZ. © 2011 Mackie Humphries
V1 From Vicksburg up to Memphis Lots of folks tappin’ their feet Strumming guitars late at night Singing the Bluz about their lives.
V2 On the porches of those shacks Empty rail cars on side tracks Those old songs float in the air Drift down river for all to hear.
RISE I close my eyes and hum along With those haunting Delta songs.
CH It’s their story about hard times For little pay - nickels and dimes Now looking back - in the rear view A LOTTA O’ SOUL -- LIVES IN THE BLUZ.
BR It’s like no one hears their pleadings But through the years they’re sitll singing Hoping someday to be in Glory No more sadness no more worry.
CH It’s their story about hard times For little pay - nickels and dimes Now looking back - in the rear view A LOTTA O’ SOUL -- LIVES IN THE BLUZ.
TAG I close my eyes and hum along With those haunting Delta songs A LOTTA O’ SOUL....................... LIVES IN THE BLUZ................... A LOTTA O’ SOUL....................... LIVES IN THE BLUZ...................Mackie

This one's full of soul, Mackie.
The vocals carry the song as much as the music.
Feels good... the perfect blend of haunting vocals, simple but soulful music and a great lyric.
Spot on

Nelson--
Thanks for your kind words and lending your ear--I always listen to my feedback and appreciate your time--I struggled with this one a bit, though.

Really like this one Mackie great imagery in the lyric and I like the melody too, one thing I would try if it was mine would be to sing each line without pausing in the middle and see how it sounds, just an idea and it maybe just me,
Tony.

HiDee T-Bro!
Nice Look-Back on a Great Genre, Amigo!
I'd sug "There's A WHOLE LOTTA SOUL/STILL LIVES IN THE BLUES" for your Hook.
V2 Sug: "FROM the porches of those shacks/ SEE empty sidecars on RAILROAD tracks/OL' SOULFUL songs float in the air/HEADIN' down-river for all to hear"
RISE: "FEELIN' those haunting Delta songs"
CH: It's their SAD stories about hard times/ MOSTLY-Paid IN nickels & dimes/ Now Lookin'-Back in LIFE's rear-view/ There's a WHOLE LOTTA SOUL STILL LIVES IN THEM BLUES!
It's like no one HEARD their pleadings/ But thru the years their LIFE's still singing/
KOS the Sugs, Amigo/VERY Likeable Song ya gotcha Going Here! Good Luck with it!
Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug, Stan
ps: Sorry..No time YET to Hear It...I just peeked at your lyrics!

Hi Mackie,
Lovely song. You create just the right mood with the playing and singing...to tell this story. A lot of soul in there is right!
You take us on a quiet journey of hope. Nice!
Kristi

Mackie: This is one of your best efforts, and I've liked you other stuff. I think I would have liked to hear "rear view mirror" sung, even though the lyric implies "mirror". All of a sudden, I was thinking of "rear views", and the thought had nothing to do with mirrors. Ott

Great lyrics Mackie. You set up a nice story. I really liked the musical feel of this one as well and your voice. I think the comment made above about not pausing in the middle of a line would be interesting to hear. Nice job.

Hey Mackie, You just keep getting better and better! I have to agree with the comments above, I do think this one would sound even better without that pause in the verses. Take care, Dottie

I appreciate you taking time to listen and comment--That is a good suggestion--someone else had the same idea on another song--STILL TRYING TO LEARN TO WRITE A GOOD SONG!

I do need some help with this one--I may just use some of your suggestions, when I make do the re-write.
I always appreciate your input.

Kristi--
I appreciate your support and positive comments--I tried to keep the message simple--Sometimes as a writer, I may over-simplify, and the listener doesn't get the message--I keep learning from constructive feedback.

Ott--
Thanks for your kind words and feedback--I originally had rear view mirror--but it sung hard--I MAY HAVE TO REVISIT THAT LINE TO IMPROVE IT--Thank you!

Tracy--
I always listen to repeat ideas for improvement--I think the pause is more of a habit--a lot of old pop and jazz singers had this in their STYLE--I may try to change or shorten the pause--we'll see--OLD DOGS-NEW TRICKS--
THANKS!

Hi Mackie,
There's a lotta soul in this song too. My only nit would be perhaps the aforementioned pauses (but you're right... a lot of the old blues singers did this too) and there were a few places where it seems like the chord changes jumped time a bit, but your delivery is soulful and I enjoyed it.

CAM--
I appreciate your taking time and your candor--I am LUCKY to get one laid down at all--NOT BEING A REAL MUSICIAN--I struggle to get the music to mesh with the lyric--I keep trying different things--this time I used a resonator acoustic--But, I am a little more comfortable with my TELE--

Bobby Pickens 2--
I don't deserve as much praise--But I do appreciate this one appealing to you--
Thanks for your thumbs up on this one--I do feel some of the SOUL trying to sing the BLUZ--

Cam--
I appreciate the encouragement--You have a lot to WRITE ABOUT IN ARIZONA--It's hot out there, but you have LOW HUMIDITY--Maybe some day I'll take a trip there.
Thought about an Amtrac round-robin from MEMPHIS southern and northern ROUTES--I haven't talked my wife into it yet--We have been doing CRUISES--
