I wrote this one for Glynda last time she was in the hospital...Just my way of letting her know I was thinking of her:)
Her Widows Mite
A mother to her sisters A shoulder for them to cry on A friend when they needed a hand So they never felt alone
Sacrificing Prom night She had more pressing things to do Than stress over the perfect dress Or worry about her shoes
Chorus Some folks will offer money Helping out in times of need Others offer understanding To Comfort those that grieve But I’ve never, ever seen a soul That dared to shined so bright Glynda… gave it all She gave her widows mite
An unselfish teenager Forgoing childish things Happy living in the shadows Of adolescent siblings
Cancer couldn’t break her spirit It’s obvious the way she lives Her eyes are set on Paradise She has so much love to give
Chorus
Bridge When her days on earth are done She’ll find comfort with the angels With goose down feather wings She’ll rest in heaven cradle
Chorus
Tag Shining brighter then the sunlight She gave her widows mite She gave her widows mite
A gift for you Glynda

Hi Dottie,
Glyn is such a sweet person, and I think this is a beautiful way to help boost her spirits and give her strenghth, to fight what is yet unknown.... and help her gather strength from feeling the love!

Do any of you know what the update on her condition is, and where the "widow's mite" idea came from? Was she widowed at a young age, or her mom?
Peace, Brian

Check the spelling of mite to be sure this is what you mean because I don't get it.

Thank you all for the visit. A widow’s mite comes from the Bible, the lady that gave all she had it was called a widow’s mite. A widow's mite was actually very little but as I said it was all she had so she gave it all. I thought folks would recognize the term but I guess not, so without knowing that term this would make no sense.:)
Anyway it was just something to let Glynda know I was thinking of her, I probably shouldn’t have posted it.
Thanks for checking it out though.:)

Hi Dottie, you should have posted it and it is very familiar term to me, this is a nice tribute to Glynda, and yes you spelled Widows mite correctly...it is the coin that the widow offered as her only sacrifice, she gave her all...as you already know Dottie. I hope she is doing better, I have not heard. I think this would also be a wonderful lyric to one day develop into a less personalized version too, and make it about a mother or just a person in general that maybe worked for free at the foster care to read to children or anyone that is giving, make it a story about a particular not named person that would be recorded as I think the ideas behind it would make a really nice one. I am sure this will mean a lot to Glynda. Kimberly

Dottie, of course you shoulda posted it,and I'm so glad you did.Such a nice gift to such a wonderful person...I agree with Kimberly...I think that in the future you could possibly do a less personal version also, because Im sure that there are many who could relate to this..Perhaps the title could be "Widow's Mite(Glynda's Song).Kinda like the Alan Jackson song"Sissy's Song".....Beautiful song Dottie!! Dottie, what a beautiful gift to Glyn! You obviously know some facts of her life...Glyn's mother committed suicide when she was 17, and she raised her sisters. She has been a loving, selfless individual her whole life, always doing for others. Somehow, she always retained a sense of humor and a wonderful songwriting ability. She has endured much hardship and pain...yet she has never stopped being the wonderful, caring, talented, beautiful person that she is.
I love this write, Dottie, but I sure hope it's a very long time before Glyn joins the angels. We love her and need her HERE!

Thank you all for the visit, I love Glynda dearly and I in no way meant she is to join the angels any time soon!! That said I have no doubt that one day she will. I admire her unselfishness, people like her is what makes life worth living.:)
Glynda, perhaps when you feel better you can help me improve this lyric, who knows we might get someone to sing it.:)

Beautiful Dottie, just beautiful.
I do not really know Glyn, we have collab, a little here and there, but from what I can deem from the posts I have read from her and others she sounds like a great women.
This lyric is just perfect and supports my well wishes that I am sending her way.
Thanks for sharing.

Dottie, Thanks for posting it and explaining the widow's mite line. I'm ashamed to admit I didn't recall the phrase from the King James Bible. The story behind it is a wonderful parable explaining why the Lord loved the poor.
Your song is a wonderful tribute to your friend, Glynda.

Hey Dan, Thanks for the kind words. I've looked into buying a few windows mites just have, I think it would be a very cool thing to collect, especially since I love old coins. Dottie

Hi, here's another example of the Widows Mite, there are several and my grand parents always told us , it's not what you have ,but what you give of your heart and how proudly you gave all you had, the widows mite was worth more than all the gold in the wrold, for all she had, she gave..
giving myself to my sisters at the time I needed to , was no choice to give up things, it was all I had to offer and still I don't remember thinking of right or wrong or what I was giving up. It was what was in my heart and there was no choice but to do my best and not let the younger ones feel fear, or feel lost, they needed me and I reacted...all it was, no hero...just heart..did what I had to do, and I'd do it all over again.
The Widow's Mite
Theme: It isn't the size of the gift that matters. Object: A small coin purse with fifty-seven cents in it. Scripture: Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything--all she had to live on." Mark 12:43-44 (NIV) Each Sunday in our worship service we take an offering. Do you think Jesus is interested in how much money we put in the offering plate?
The Bible says that one day, Jesus went to the temple and sat down near the place where the offerings were placed. He sat and watched the people as they came by and put in their offerings. Many rich people, dressed in fine robes, came by and put in a lot of money. Then, a poor widow came by and put in two small copper coins that weren't even worth a penny.
Jesus called his disciples to him and said, "This woman has given more than anyone. The others gave out of their wealth, but this woman gave all that she had." You see, Jesus is more interested in what is in the heart of the giver than he is in the size of their gift.
I have a small coin purse. Let's see how much money is in it. Hmm...fifty-seven cents. Well, that isn't much money, but this morning I want to tell you the story of a little girl named Hattie and how her gift of fifty-seven cents helped to build a great church.
One Sunday morning, the pastor of a church went outside to find a group of children who were unable to get in to go to Sunday School because the building was too crowded. One of those children was a six year-old named Hattie. When the pastor saw her, he lifted her up in his arms, put her up on his shoulder, and carried her into the church where he found a place for her to sit in the Sunday School class.
The next morning as he walked to church, the pastor saw Hattie again and stopped to talk to her. He told her that he hoped that some day the church would be able to build a building that was large enough so that there would be room for all the children who wanted to attend.
Two years later, little Hattie died and the pastor was asked to preach the funeral service. After the service, Hattie's mother handed the pastor a small purse containing fifty-seven cents. She told him that Hattie had been saving her pennies to help the church build a new Sunday School building. The pastor took the fifty-seven cents back to his church and told the people about the little girl who had been saving her pennies to help them build a new Sunday School building. The people were so inspired by Hattie's gift, that they gave faithfully until they built a wonderful new building with plenty of room for all of the children who wanted to attend.
I am sure that Jesus would say that Hattie gave more than anyone to build this great church. She gave all that she had.
Dear Father, everything we have is a gift from You. Help us to remember that we should give back to You with a cheerful heart. Amen.

That terminology is new to me. When I hear the word "mite" in that spelling I always think of the insects that you can't see yet cause you to itch like crazy. There was an infestation in this area about three years ago. Don't mean for this to take from the beautiful meaning of this piece. It's just how I heard that word used.
Peace, Brian

Dotti,
What a wonderful tribute of song to a friend! I was really inspired by reading it and the strength of the message shined through for me and then also hearing a bit more about Glynda's background brought it all home....
As others have mentioned this is a powerful idea for a song and many others can take inspiration from it, if you decide to write another version of it making it more accessible to a wider audience....
I'm also touched by the back-story of someone so young being so brave to take on such responsibility... It just shows that the love people here are giving her is so deserving.....
Thanks for posting this great tribute!!!-Dana

What more can I say on this one. Just hope that our friends continues to make progress in recovery. So often in our lives another good day appears promised and yet something major throws us off course. Of course, we do have another person we can look to for a source of inspiration. Care to guess who I am thinking about?
Peace, Brian

Hey Dottie, what a beautiful and touching piece. It takes a kind, caring soul to write something like this for a friend.

A beautiful write, from a beautiful place. I think it's sad that some are of the opinion that a "personal song" somehow means that it is less commercially viable. I'd agree if I didn't have a profound fondness for "Angie" or "Sweet Baby Jane" or "Sara Smile" or "Emily" or "Oh Donna" or "Mary Jane"....uhhhh, perhaps not that one..... but you get the point. Dottie...... Beautiful!!!!

So many friends from all over the world praying for me and thinking about me....there is nothing that can ever replace this...I thank each one of you for being here for me and for touching my heart....

Glyn:
In my post I mentioned someone who could easily be an inspiration for your own situation. Since nobody guessed it to my knowledge, I shall reveal that it is Gabby Giffords. If she could come back from what she went through, then anybody could. I heard that she may even be released to attend her husband's send-off for the space mission next month.
