Folks I'd really like to be able to play and sing this song but so far I am having problems figuring it out.

I have a Tab for it. I am not sure if it is correct though.
The Tab I have is in standard tuning and shows this chord sequence for the first verse.

F Em7 A7 Dm Bb C7 F C Dm7 G7 Bb F

I have watched the videos of Paul McCartney playing this song and this Tab does not seem correct.
I am not sure but one video it looks like he is Capo'd at the first fret. Not real sure though It's hard to see.

I have found another tab that shows the song in "D" tuning. I have never played anything in "D" tuning but I'll give it a try.
The D tuning tab also shows the same chord sequence but the fingering is different.

I don't understand the need for tuning all the strings on the guitar down a step.
I understand drop D where only the Low E is tuned down. For fuller Bass.

Tune your guitar to D A F C G D.

Then, play along to this one...it's accurate: http://www.songsterr.com/a/wa/song?id=2480

If you want to play it like Paul does, this is the way.

Here is a great site which contains info and charts explaining alternative tunings etc.

Was really puzzling through that tuning until I went to the site and noted they notate their alternate tunings backwards from how I'm used to seeing them (this is in string numerical order) so this would normally be read as:

D G C F A D
6 5 4 3 2 1

I have a Hank Thompson Song book. Now Hank put all kinds of chords in those songs. At first I decided I would learn all those chords. But it was a chore so I just reverted to my usual 3 chords and ignored those chords in that song book. It's a whole lot easier that way.

I've always felt Lennon's "In My Life" to be a better song than McCartney's "Yesterday."

I play my guitar with all the notes tuned down one whole step.

The gal I used to back up was a contralto, and I found the lower
tuning advantageous on many of the arrangements I was using.
Otherwise, there's no real reason to do it.

By the way, lowering all the strings on guitar one whole step is not a "D" tuning, technically speaking, it's a Bb tuning, because if you were reading music, you would use sheet music for Bb instruments. I play jazz, and when I did use the Bb tuning,
I'd use a fake book for Bb instruments ( Tenor Sax, etc ).
