Alek,

Just out of curiosity, why would you need an "attractive female singer" to sing on this? If you are doing a demo, what does it matter what she looks like?

If you are trying to "pitch the song" that is not exactly how it works. Doubtful that any female singer would respond to that.

If you are trying to pitch songs, you find singers that might fit what you are doing and go to them, not expect them to come to you.

Writing the songs are only one part of this. The majority of a career is intitive, drive and going out there to find people who might be right for what you do.

Mark, thanks for your reply, but I do this exactly according to your advices(I read em all).
If you want I can explain my statement via PM.
I add that I placed the same ad at various sites and already got feedback from females who wanna do I asked them. Once we're done I place here a link to ready song, but first I'll send it to a label who requires exactly "attractive singers". So, I only reproduce their request.

So you're spamming the site looking for "attractive female singers" get on your bike man. Your label sounds like a great place lol
this hole thing sounds very dodgy to me and very offensive to the females on this site.
Who the hell is your label to decide on who is attractive and who is not. Sounds like a bunch of fools to me and that's putting a lightly.

I'm looking for attractive male vocalists, Alek you need not apply smile

Andy,
thanks, but there's no spam, if you need I can send to you a link to a label(and you'll see some signed artists photos there) via PM,
but first you should take your words back.
When I try to pitch a song(and singer) to that label they ask performer photo first. This is their policy, they rule and I don't.
As for me I prefer to listen to Susan Boyle than these youngsters in mini skirts.

Ok Alek no offence intended but you must see where I'm coming from with this one. A song should stand on it's own merits and not how good looking the singer is.
Just because it's there policy dose not mean I have to let it pass. It's a BS policy!

Alek, it sounds like you are trying to pitch your songs to a record label. Unfortunately, that's not how it works.

A label may be looking for an "attractive female artist", but that's just it. They are looking for artists, not songs. Besides, why would you, as the writer, be pitching an unknown artist to the label. It would be different if you were an agent or manager and had a vested interest in the performer.

I'm sure you mean well, but you may want to do a little research on how the music business operates.

Best wishes!

Alek,

I think what this is again is being separated by common languages. In your area it may work fine, but as you step out into the Interenational community it is easy to get misunderstood.

You may get some responses but most likely if you do some research, they are not the kind of people that you want representing your work. The problem with the Internet is people can make up whatever they want to.They can put fake pictures up there, and a lot of weird areas can happen. A lot of pedofiles and seriously deranged people come out of that.

What I am concerned with in a lot of posts like this is that you present a really easy target for sharks preying on people's inexperience in the industry.

If you read through a lot of posts on this and other sites, you see constantly "Has anyone ever heard of ....." What that means is someone has used a key word, or done a search that comes up with phrases or thing that people use.

Something like that can lead to scams and scammers.

That is why i don't think you are going to get the types of responses you are looking for. And why everyone here is trying to help you in one way or another.

If you were an established label or publisher, that might be one thing. But if you are trying to pitch songs, personally I just don't think this is the way to go about it.

but as always I wish you luck in whatever you do.

MAB

Kevin and Marc, thanks for your advices,
but I know who I contact with, and more he even proposes to me to co-work with him on songs (he's a lyricist and performer in the past) and then to pitch them to well known artists (Usher for example) or to release on his label with their existing artists or to find new ones and it was a subject of a topic I posted here and there.

I think said above is enough...cuz I'm superstitious,

Sounds to me like you have a set of circumstances that you and those you're working with understand and are trying to put together. Nobody else was quite getting that.
That's fair enough and understandable "YES if you are pitching a young female singer and you want ANY chance in the biz she better be attractive.
Especially if it's in this style of music. There is leeway for "Artists" who write and have a style, and they come off cool or quirky or cute. And there music and fan base loves that about them.

However, your approach isn't very good. Even if you make it look like an add that has requirements it would come off better than this smile
This post read like a porn search smile Give a bit more detail and make it at least seem like your looking for hard working singers that you want to promote and work with. Because that is probably what your looking for. I think everyone even kids have basically figured out that there are no ugly Betty's on the charts.
You can word that very nicely and professionally in an add.

Understandable things, very bad approach.

All the best

Thanks!
Peace Mike

Hi all, I didn't suppose my post will attract (ouch, again this word, is it legit in English?) such an attention , looks like I did a little scandal, isn't it?
Well, before to post I saw an ad in local Kharkov paper:

"New just opening supermarket invites young attractive people to work in our enterprise, salary is paid in time",

I can list the same ads from banks, offices, hair dressers, dry cleaners etc, and, hey, here in Kharkov
there are several McDonalds too (and you'll find in each of them young attractive guys and girls as a workers only).
So, all these businesses are legit, and what is a matter they hire only young attractive workers?
I think this formula explains everything:

attractive sellers = better sales of a goods/services

and what about music labels? They are commercial
enterprises too and their formula is:

attractive artists = better sales of CDs/TV shows etc.

And last: ladies and gentlemen, please visit a home
page of a label I mentioned:

http://organicplanetproductions.ning.com/

and have a look at their artist Leah Ames and her
dress ( more exactly at it's absence)

I'll be surprised if you'll still have a comments,
as for me - I have not.

Man you really don't get it do you.

Oh hang on a second...I think you're right I just had look through my record collection and it's full of attractive women and come to think of it I only shop in stores that have attractive people working there. If I even see an unattractive person in a shop I have to run away screaming!!!

The problem is with you not getting why this is wrong.

If an add like that was put up in a shop in the UK there would be riots. Ever heard of thing call equal rights? Clearly not..

In defence of Alek I think the problem is more a language and cultural misunderstanding.....He can take things literally and misunderstand hidden true meanings. He uses a language converter to understand a lot of what is being said.....ever tried to decypher a bad translation on an instruction manual....LOL

Look up the meaning of attractive...that is what he wants and probably meant.
1. providing pleasure or delight, esp. in appearance or manner; pleasing; charming; alluring: an attractive personality.
2. arousing interest or engaging one's thought, consideration, etc.: an attractive idea; an attractive price.
3. having the quality of attracting.

The record industry says one thing but does another.....we live with equal rights yet the charts past and present feature mostly young beautiful people....I doubt that young beautiful people make the best music....but they sure as hell make the most music cause everyone loves eye candy.

Jim, looks like your post is to the point, and do you know what I did after reading? I lifted up all
the dictionaries I have - Soviet one of 1980 edition,
then 2 Russian softwares Promt and Socrat, then
I opened Google translator, but I found nothing
that says this word has some explicit meanings,
or meanings you listed.
But I have no this: Dictionary of English language,
and maybe there I could find more extended meanings.
When I used a free trial period of MasterWriter software I saw this dictionary there and even found some meanings of the words with it, for example: night,
"Night is a time between sundown and sunrise".
But when I tried to use MasterWriter for rhyming...
it stumbled on the first word "message" and I
declined purchase and then found free rhyming
software that is much better than famous one.

Knowing that sex sells in pretty much EVERYTHING there is, is one thing. Believing that it SHOULD have to be that way is another.

That's the only thing that's not clear about Alek and why he is getting slack.

Alek would you NOT go to a sales person if they were unattractive?
Straight up? Would you walk out of the store if there were only this one person there or they were all unattractive?

I'm not trying to bait you, I'm trying to understand what the heck your talking about? lol The thread is getting weird and i just wanted to ask before I bail on it completely. smile

Thanks!

Ah heck, you guys, Alek is Russian ! Get it ?

Perhaps Alek's next post could be in Russian, and then YOU would have to interpret it.

PS - Alek, Tom offered Justice to sing your song. She's a fine singer, and attractive too.

Hey Nite smile

Yeah, but no matter how you take it or what ever the heck it's about it's still a bad advertisement. Does bad advertising or bad judgment, also bad business matter in most countries? smile

Hey Mike,

Maybe the client simply wants a presentable vocalist, you know, "nice" or wholesome...... as opposed to some pierced and tatooed, snot nosed hairy legged troglodyte who has to kick start her own vibrator ? smile

I often see music companies asking for attractive people who can sing.

That may not be the exact word they use but translation can be difficult.

I have even applied for such jobs myself, but never made the grade. They blamed my singing, but.

Even if they don't say it, they do follow pre-conceived criteria of which looks is very important.

OK he may have been better off just looking for female singers and then make his selection taking into account what the person looks like.

We are talking about the entertainment industry not a job at tesco's.

As Big Jim pointed out...

1. providing pleasure or delight, esp. in appearance or manner; pleasing; charming; alluring: an attractive personality.

2. arousing interest or engaging one's thought, consideration, etc.: an attractive idea; an attractive price.

3. having the quality of attracting.

If you are putting together a clean-cut girl band, you don't want punks to apply. Time is important to us all. Probably more so record companies.

Also as Big Jim said, "I think the problem is more a language and cultural misunderstanding".

My daughter in law is also from Ukraine, and even though she speaks very good English (been here a while) she does tend to translate in a real literal fashion.

She was telling me one day, having reached the age of 40, that she was having 'A Mid-Life Crisis'....

What she actually said was, 'Roy, I have reached 40 and am having what you call "A Big Climax".

I won't tell you how difficult it was to explain the difference. Just to say that in the dictionary, taken from a non-English POV. The meanings may be the same in some respects.

Another friend of mine wanted to say that his curry sauce had a wonderful fragrance. What he printed in his menus was 'Our Sauce, Has A Wonderful Odor". In the dictionary it is listed.

So all I'm saying is cut the guy a break. He is repeating what the record company has asked for.

By the way Alek a really good FREE songwriting software is

http://www.bryantmcgill.com/Free_Rhyming_Dictionary/Download_Now/?source=update

Just click download and follow the link.

I have been using it for a while. It has dictionary etc.

Looking for "attractive" singers just sounds unprofessional, and beyond the point. This is music business, not modelling!

Furthermore "attractive" is completely subjective, so you can throw any meaning in and make it valid, depending on who's making the judgement.

And the subjective part is exactly why this is rude, because you insist on the right to reject fantastic singers, only because they don't look like you think they should look.

That's plain discrimination, and totally not acceptable!

Language barrier doesn't give you a blanket licence for that. Wisen up, that's YOUR responsibility..

I have never heard a songwriter write a song Magne saying

I met this ugly women and loved her at once.

Everyone writes about how beautiful the girl was etc etc.. And yes I know about, the eye of the beholder and inner beauty etc..

But come on....

'Attractive'..

Most people think they are anyways.

I wouldnt do it and most ENGLISH - WESTONISED wouldn't either.

But some do.

Do you honestly believe that record companys go by the voice alone. They have an image that they want the singer or band to fit. Attractive is just an indication of expectaions.

Sure not quite right but and YES

"unprofessional" of course, but a lot of us are not professionals... we are just plain folk and we get it wrong at times.

God Bless Roy and Helen

Now listen up, Magne, ya big ugly Danish git !

I know you prefer to employ your own countrywomen. However, some of us more civilised folks like Alek, Roy and myself, prefer to employ girls who don't eat so much sausage that they end up looking like the ass end of a Greyhound bus, and smell like a ton of rancid cheese. I won't even mention, that the smell of yeast should be confined to a brewery, where it belongs.

Stop dicrimination of the beautiful people !

cheers, niteshift

PS - I'm allowed to insult Magne. We're related by royalty. And besides....... he's Danish.

PPS - I wonder what Alek's auto-translater thought of that one ?

Nightshift you should have your own show TV with comedy like that.. I hope you’re attractive enough wink

Alek you're English is very good. I will not be visiting the labels website but I understand that it's them making you post great adverts.

At least Magne is on the right side of the fence. You go for it brother 

I find it funny that Polly is the only female that has joined this very interesting and quite revealing thread. I'd like to get some more female views on this topic but they have to be by attractive women wink

Yes, where are the girls ? I know, probably submitting to Alek, as we speak. Especially Polly. She'll have a crack at anything. Not that I would know..... personally....... that is. Ahem.

This is a prime example of a mistake where the house seller advertised his house and the newspaper missheard his advert over the phone.

They speak the same launguage and still get it wrong.

So, not a racist at all, just a sensible guy trying to sell his house but struggling to do so because of his Australian accent

"Australians don't have an accent" well that is another thing to add to my list of things Aussies do not have....it is a very long list. Soon we can add "ashes" to it.

So let me get this straight, Alek!

The record label you are working for is basically making YOU look for an artist FOR them to record your song?

And this label is going to request a photo of said person before the deal is done?

Did they request YOUR photo?

Are you getting PAID to act as their talent scout???

And if not, WHY NOT?

There. All done with the questions now! wink

Nightshift: Hilarious! Andy: "Quite revealing thread"? So now you're thinking of how the artist should be dressed? Roy: Great link!

I must admit that it was morbid curiosity that prompted me to view this thread
(I saw the TITLE "Attractive female singer needed" in "What's going on").

I had a feeling that it would be interesting and entertaining.

And I was not disappointed smile smile smile

PC gone daft.......OK If I advertise wanting big boobed attractive ladies to sing on a track....I might offend a few folk.......BUT I ALSO get lots of big boobed attractive ladies.

A pal of mine used to chat up women using the line..." Would you like to have sex with me?" (he put it a bit cruder)
I said I bet you get a lot of sore faces....."Yeah but I also get a lot of sex" he replied.

Hey Jim,

Does your pal still have his producers' couch ?

I stored mine away many years ago.( the wife's no fun frown ) Perhaps it's time to drag it out, give it a dust off, and get Alek to do my advertising ?

Just a thought....... smirk
