In loving memory of the two best friends I ever had. They left this earth together on Monday. I always called Raymond by his nic-name Buddy, But Ruth Ann always called him Ray. My deepest thank you to John Lobello for his help, I think he got it just right. www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=9916668&q=hi&newref=1Ruth Ann and Ray Copr. 2010 Kevin Pearson/John Lobello He was born in Ohio with a California dream The Monterey Coastline To paint next to the sea She was a California girl A streak of purple in her hair And as fate would have it They're paths crossed way out there Well they bought a little house And he painted when he could They loved with all of their heart knowing that they always would The rest is almost Just too hard to say They both went away On the very same day I guess the love was too strong to separate And though it hurts us all twice as much today There is a comfort in all of this pain Cause Ray still has his Ruth Ann And Ruth Ann still has Ray I guess the love was too strong to separate And though it hurts us all twice as much today There is a comfort in all of this pain Cause Ray still has his Ruth Ann And Ruth Ann still has Ray Cause Ray still has his Ruth Ann And Ruth Ann still has Ray Cause Ray still has his Ruth Ann And Ruth Ann still has Ray

Nice song. Tells a story without saying it all. I can tell you're feeling the words.

Kevin, This is an example of a well-written song in the folk-country-American genre - or any genre, for that matter. In two verses you established the principal characters. In the third, you told the story of their love. In the fourth you told us how it ended. And in the bridge you gave us the payoff: Ray still has his Ruth Ann/And Ruth Ann still has Ray.
John Lobello added a simple melody to support the story and did an excellent job interpreting the lyrics.
It was a pleasure to listen to this well-crafted song.

Kevin,
What a wonderful song that helps us appreciate our day through getting to know two people we will never have the privledge to meet. Very effective and very beautiful.

Kevin,
A well told happy/sad story. Not a lot of words necessary to get it across and the simple production and appropriate melody works.

WOW, how cool is this! Lovin' it, pairing a talented singer/songwriter like John with a wonderful writer like you Kev, that's lethal!
This is just killing me how good it is. Oh boy oh boy.. I just wish there were more of the song, if you threw an instrumental section in there, could prolong the sheer joy of listening to this.. but it's good as is too!

Kevin and John this is beautiful through and through. Well done......
a small nit/note ---John -- you get a really clean recording sound - your mic is so strong that it picks up a creaking noise from the guitar or chair.... a slight distraction --normally I like a bit of string noise and fret touches because it makes it feel more live....and part of playing -- but a creak sounds a bit out of place.......not sure if the solution would be to lower your recording level or remove the sound after the fact --- OR maybe you are fine with hearing it....
back when I first started writing I got a gift of a 3 song take in a studio.... there is guitar sounds and a strange clicking --the engineer couldn't figure out what I was doing.... I later realized it was my tuner -- that moved slightly on the neck when I was animated..... ; ) jm

Ruth Ann, Ray and their cat were found Monday morning, victims of a faulty furnace and carbon monoxide poisoning. I got the call Monday night, spent Tuesday in shock and Wednesday telling myself it's too soon I wrote this down and shared it with John. John said we write and and we play, what else can we do....He sent me the song yesterday morning and I thought it would be a nice way to say how much I loved them with the only thing positive I could find in it all...
Tony, Yes John sings it like he lived it. I told him a lot about them on Wednesday and he listened all day to me, then I sent this lyric and said I'm not sure what I'll ever do with it... I'm happy people relate. they were wonderful people.
Greg, Thank you for listening, They deserve to be appreciated.
Vicarn, Thanks I hope you could feel the love they had. For almost 30 years they adored each other..it was special to see.
Dan, Thank you, yes John did it perfectly. Structure wise this just came out as I felt it. I wasn't too awfully concerned about verses and choruses. I did write a final verse/bridge on Thanksgiving morning I don't know if it will ever be recorded or not but maybe.
Tammy, Thanks, the one thing I wanted to say most was "hey look at the these two beautiful lives"
Colin, Thanks, I could write a book or two about my best friend. I've been close to Ray (Buddy) since high school and when you get to be 50 plus something the stories add up. I am usually too wordy on my lyrics this one every word hurt a little so I kept it short. But it's all true stuff Ruth Ann did have a purple streak in hair the first time we met her. Now back in 83 in Ohio that was something different, She was a sweat heart.
Magne, Thank you. Good to hear from another old friend. Yeah I think I said what I felt and John sang it like I felt it.
Joice, Thanks for taking a listen. I'm sure John will be by to check on on all the comments.
Thanks All Kevin

Hey Kevin, Sorry for the loss of your friends. Very nice song. John done a very good job at pulling the emotion from this song. Fine example that sometimes less is more in telling a story. Good job guys!! Hope you all JPF'rs have a good holiday season

Thanks for all the feedback on the tune. I was honored Kevin ask me to do something with such a personal lyric and also wondering if I could do it justice. I thought of it as a gift to him and did my best. Again I appreciate the response on it ... I know it means a lot to Kevin.
My guitar does creek a bit, it is the finish on the neck. Some songs it is there more than others. I don't like greasy stuff on the neck but maybe Pledge would work.
