Hi folks, Some of you may remember me (Stan Simons) from a couple years ago. I thought I'd stop by and share the news that Tommy Overstreet ( http://www.tommyoverstreet.net/ ) has signed 7 of my songs to one of his publishing companies and has recorded 2 of them on the new c/d by Diamondback Band (De Ja Vu Records.) The c/d is currently being manufactured and is scheduled for completion by the 25th of this month. (Tommy (T.O.) himself was the producer on this c/d and also wrote one of the songs.) It is a huge honor to find myself befriended by such a famous artist. He is a man of great character and now, as my publisher, I look forward to learning much from him. For those who don't know, Tommy Overstreet is listed in the Country Music Hall of Fame and has 7 number 1 hits to his credit as well as something like 26 top ten songs. A couple of these were: "Young Girl", "If Love Was a Bottle of Wine", and "Don't Go City Girl on Me." This is quite a miracle for me and I thank my Heavenly Father for His favor in bringing it to pass. Once the album is available to the public, I'll come back and add a link to it. Here's a link to a YouTube song of Tommy's titled: "Don't Go City Girl on Me." It may bring back memories... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr9aiqaiGk8Here's one for: "If Love Was a Bottle of Wine"... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsLsp6wbgRc&feature=related(Now THAT's Classic Country!!!) The Diamondback Band is playing mainly in the MidWest. They are working on a website, but here's a link to their MySpace.com page: http://www.myspace.com/diamondbackbandorgI was told by one of the band members that he thought one of my songs "Angels Over Nashville" will be promoted as a single on radio and that Tommy is going to try to get the c/d in WalMart. He is going to set it up for internet downloads as well. 04.11.2010 Update: Here's a link to the reverbnation site where the songs can be played: http://www.reverbnation.com/thediamondbackband#Thanks, and God Bless!

Hiya Moker and Bill,
Thanks for the encouragement! There are a couple of songs off the album on Diamondback's MySpace playlist, but they're not my songs. I expect they will post more when they get time (everything's in flux as they just finished in the studio and are back on the road now.) I haven't even heard it yet, but Tommy's sending me a c/d as soon as they're burned.
Hey Moker, I see you're in Jacksonville, Fl. I lived there most of my adult life and moved to the greater Nashville area 6.5 yrs ago from Glen Saint Mary, Fl (out on I-10 West.)
Shalom,
Stan

Sounds like good news to me. Maybe that band will hit it big and drag you along! Congratulations.
Maybe you should try co-writing with that band, if that is a possibility. That way your songs will stay near the top of their list!

Hello Everett,
Traditional country for sure! I hear this band has an edgy sound, but the two songs they recorded were definately traditional sounding demos, in the vein of Alan Jackson, etc.
Thanks for commenting!

Greetings Kevin,
I have commitments from 2 of the band members for cowrites on 2 other songs I'm working on, and Tommy Overstreet has a partner that has expressed interest in doing one with me. I couldn't be much happier about the prospects for seeing some degree of success.
Thanks for your interest!

Hey Radical Poet,
Welcome to JPF.
Congratulations! Tommy Overstreet is quite a talent and a nice guy. I got to play on his Gospel Favorites and Country Favorites albums. He has a serious "ear" so I'm sure your songs are top notch. Good luck, and here's to a lot of successes in your future.
Mike

Hiya Mike,
Yes, Tommy has been quite the gentleman in his dealings with me. I have always liked my songs, but it is good to find acceptance with someone of his renown. He told me he's been in the business for something like 57 years, starting around age 14. Thanks for your warm wishes.

Stan, Jacksonville, huh ?!...we're still doin' our thing down here...there are so many good players here, alot of touring bands, etc...but the town has always lagged behind the talent pool as far as becoming a hot music production center, I suppose that's why everyone leaves for L.A., New York, or Nashville...funny the guys I run into here...a couple of weeks ago, i was friendly with a guy who opened for us at a pub gig(running a studio I try and introduce myself to all the artists I meet)...looked him up later and he toured with Bon Jovi on several world tours...ya never know...anyway good luck with the cuts...look me up if ya come back this way...moker

Hi again Mike,
I remember your name from when I used to hang out here most every night, but I didn't know you. Forgive me. I just cruised around your impressive website and see that you are quite the lettered man in the music industry. You have had an impressive career! Maybe we can get together sometime. I live in Culleoka, 50 miles south of Nashville.
We have a few industry folks who attend our church, First Family Baptist in Columbia. Our worship leader is Luke Gambil, Creative Director at Brentwood Benson in Franklin, as well as David Phelps, and Guy Penrod of Gaither fame. I don't know these people, but it is cool to pass them in the hallway! HaHa! But I'm always interested in working with people who love the craft, so one does hope! Again, a reverential tip of the hat to you friend!

Hiya Moker,
Yeah, I moved back to Jacksonville from Deland, Fl at 19 and began my wasted years. I lived in Westside for 10 yrs or so, then finally had a new house built over off of Sunbeam Rd. near Mandarin. I wasn't into songwriting at that time and didn't have a clue I one day would be. In my early years I remember when Lynyrd Skynyrd used to play the clubs in Westside and I was living there when the "Freebird" went down. Spent many weekends partying out at the North Jettys and out on American Beach before the rich folks started building condos and stole the whole coastline from the common man. ...That really takes one back!!!
Shalom,
Stan

Stan, I grew up at Jax Beach, have been a beach guy for so long I don't know if I'd know what to do in someplace like Kansas...ha...condos abound now blocking the sun at my old surf spots, where half of them sit is where we used to take girls parkin'!! alot of empty condos right now, maybe things are gonna get back on track soon...I remember the Skynyrd club gigs, The Still, Post & King maybe..!?...be well...moker

Hiya Moker,
Yeah, hurricane season's coming! (Not to wish any condo owners any issues, I wouldn't wish that on anyone!) That said, the coastline ought to be for everyone. I remember when you used to be able to drive on the beach in St. Augustine, then they stopped that. They keep taking our freedom away, inch by inch.
Do you remember a little bar called "Randy's" in Lakeshore? I used to live directly behind it 2 blocks back. By day it was a real redneck joint, but they had a dancefloor with a disco ball and mirrored walls. Around 6 pm the rednecks would leave like a bell had rung and the young dance crowd would come in and the place would start cranking up.
Haven't thought about those places you mentioned in decades. Don't want to go back though. Had some good times, but had some trouble too. At least we DO get older and a bit wiser!
Shalom,
Stan

Tampa-Stan!!!
GOOOD to see ya again! Do so appreciate the invite and I will order you a copy as soon as they're available. How is the clock biz? You still working that as much as you used to?
Hey, bail outta Florida man and come on up to God's Country! I've been living in Tennessee over 6 years now, and since I work outside (Commercial A/C Tech.), I have froze my arse off each winter! That said, I wouldn't go back to Florida if they paid me! (Well, that MIGHT depend...) Anyway, we sure like the wildlife, beautiful hills, and even the snow(unless the power goes out!) It looks like a Currier & Ives postcard where we live when it does snow. Rolling terrian, farms, and streams. Makes one thank his Maker for all He's done, that's for sure!
Give me a shout if you do get up this way.
Cheers,
Stan (the OTHER one.)

Hello Dave, Yes, that was my intention when I posted my news. Honestly, I had become very disheartened and had "dropped out" of all efforts in promoting my demos in Nashville. I spent the first 3 years after moving here trying to work the system given my limited time and resources. Finally, I quit trying and told God that if it was ever going to happen for me, He would have to make it happen. I gradually rediverted my energies into gathering bibles for overseas distribution through Edwin Hodges Ministries ( http://www.elhm.org ) as He increased my burden for the less fortunate, and that has been my focus for nearly 3 years. Now, suddenly coming out of "now-where" comes this blessing! I know I'm being shown something here, ...you think? So, I want to be an encourager to those trying to pursue their musical dreams. But more than that, I want to be a positive influence on everyone I can to view this life through Heaven's lense. Let's do something for God's kingdom and help others come to know "The Greatest Story Ever Told." That is something that we can take with us when we leave this world. After all, the bible says that, "He that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him." I think that means when we seek Him for the right reasons (His purposes,) and not for what we can get out of Him. (...And He's wise enough to know the distinction!) Shalom, Stan

Greetings John, Thanks you for your kind comments. Tommy called me yesterday and told me he's signing my other 3 songs for a total of 10. (That exhausts my demoed songs.) He has also said he'll be happy to look at anything I write from this point forward. I am SOOO happy!

Greetings Dave, Thanks bro. I know we like to hope all our hard work and perseverance eventually brings us good fortune, and it usually does not come without those ingredients. But I really believe this "good fortune" is a gift in this case. I hadn't made any effort in around 3 years with my songs, and here it comes knocking at my door. All I can tell folks is: "God LOVES His young'ens!!!" I do believe He is also saying: "Don't quit writing, ...I still have plans for you!" So I am writing again, and it seems to be flowing like oil. I've written a dozen or more quality songs since January 1st and the quality is better than it's ever been. Don't know if it's just that I have more life experiences now, or if it's part of this "gift." No matter, I thank Him for it! Shalom, Stan

Hey Stan,
I took a listen to "Angels Over Nashville". First off, GREAT title hook! The title alone makes a person HAVE to listen to it. Which I did. Classical country music is not really my cup of tea, but I have to hand it to you bro, the song is top notch. I'm a lyrics guy, so I tend to pay attention to the lyrics in a song and I love the story and the structure of your lyrics. I'm gonna have to buy this song and add it to my iPod collection.
Great job dude. Congratulations on your continued success and keep up the good work!
Best wishes,
Greg

Hiya Greg,
Thanks for the encouragement! "Angels Over Nashville" is getting really positive response in the clubs where the band performs. Folks are requesting it multiple times per night, so I hope it does well on radio too. I like my demo version better than the recorded version, but I'm getting more used to hearing it done differently the more I play it. I'm looking forward to hearing it performed live this coming Saturday.
I understand your musical tastes lie in genres other than clasical country. The fact that you are open to country is a good thing. Don't think there's any better way to tell a story than a good ol' hurtin' country song! (I am also a lyricist.)
The song you wrote that's being performed by Select Three is really got "hit" written all over it. I wish it were one of mine! Here's to your finding yourself at the top of the heap with royalties falling out of your pockets with every step!!!
Shalom Bro.,
Stan

Hello Folks, We just returned from Branson and had a great time. Got to meet Tommy Overstreet in person and get my photo taken with him. Also met the Diamondback Band members and listened to them live for the first time. The internet doesn't do them justice. They have written some good songs and sound fantasic live and on their new c/d. Tommy Overstreet had a guest with him. I believe he said his name was Norm Cook. He is someone within the country music scene. I wish I knew more about him, but haven't had the chance to ask Tommy any questions yet. Norm asked me if I had written any more songs like "Angels Over Nashville" and when I told him I hoped it would go somewhere, he said: "Oh, ...IT'S GOING!!! That kind of comment gives me for sure. Does anyone know Norm Cook? I'd appreciate any info you might share. Here's a link to a few of the pics taken at the party: (The 4th pic over to the right on the top row is of Steve Brooks, lead singer for Diamondback (left), Mitchell, my Down's Syndrome son (center), and me (on the right). The 3rd pic over from the left on the top row is of Steve Brooks and Tommy Overstreet. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=10931&id=104217242943633Thanks, Stan
