Hey, it's been awhile since I posted a new one. Here's a nice little pitchy tune. I still plan to come back and fix a few things, but I gotta set it aside for now!

MP3: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9294777

Kevin

EDIT (6/28): I added in Colin's harmonies, doubled the vocal track here and there to give more depth, re-sang the first line, changed "too bright" to "so bright". Not sure I improved it (except for Colin's addition, of course). What can you do? Plus Georgia was going to scratch me if I didn't give her top billing.

Rhonda, Rhonda, Rhonda
I just like the way your name sounds
kinda ...... kinda

Rhonda, Rhonda, Rhonda
You know I have to hear that sweet refrain
Yet it feels so strange

Arcade games
playing truth or dare
The light reflects off your hair
it’s too so bright a glare

The ocean roars
salt spray clings
ice cream cone
chocolate sprinkles on the ground
we don’t look down

Rhonda, Rhonda, Rhonda
I just like the way your name sounds
kinda ...... kinda

(instrumental break)

Just when I think I'm over you
I smell something, see something
that reminds me of us two
What can I do?

Rhonda, Rhonda, Rhonda
I just like the way your name sounds
kinda ...... kinda

Rhonda, Rhonda, Rhonda
You know I have to hear that sweet refrain
Yet it feels so strange

Georgia (the cat): bells
Colin Ward: Harmony vocals
Kevin: Acoustic guitars, electric guitar, slide guitar, vocals
BIAB: Bass, Drums, electric guitar

Nice one Kevin - it's very catchy. And the musical arrangement is great - lots of cool dynamics to it. I'm diggin' it!

Kevin,

I really enjoyed this one. Good melody and lyrics, catchy and hooky. The reverb drenched guitar solo was very tasty and a perfect fit.

This bit is crying out for harmonies!

This is really cool, Kev! Sounds like you've got it down. Love the vibe, the acoustic solo (great arrangement) and your vocals sound pretty good here too. I could hear this for a movie too!

Good job, Kevin. A few things need tightening up, maybe, but nothing that you won't be aware of yourself already.

I did wonder about experimenting with the chorus-type section as follows:

"Rhonda, Rhonda, Rhonda
I kinda like the way your name sounds
kinda ...... kinda"

I thought that 'kinda' on the second line might lay the ground better for the "kinda kinda". Just an idea.

Stevie B: Thanks for the visit and kind words. Your latest song is a hoot!

Scott: When I use BIAB, dynamics are the hardest thing (for me) to do. I know it can be done, but I haven't taken the time yet to learn how. So, for now, I do it with my instrumentation and additional parts. Thanks for stopping by.

Ricki: Hard to say if I am getting better -- I don't practice at all. Maybe, my note selection is better when I don't try to do too much. Georgia wanted top billing -- diva cat.

Polly: Thanks for coming by and commenting. Always a pleasure. I am glad you liked it.

Calvin: Thanks for the visit!!

I'll come back for the others later. Time to mow a little before it gets too hot (and on Father's Day!!). Maybe I'll hook the mower up to Georgia -- nah!

Kevin,

Rock and Roll guitars are cool...good playing...

On the chorus maybe...
Rhonda, Rhonda, Rhonda
I just like the way your name sounds
kinda ......oh Rhonda

Fun song,

tom

Joice: BIAB it is!! I have been struggling with how to humanize BIAB a little more. I know you can do it, but I need to learn more. Two of my favorite Rob Leach tunes that I turned into BIAB tunes (West Texas Girl and Old and Gray) really, really lost a lot of "soul" in the conversion. Most of it really has to do with "introductions" (and he is a great composer and player). I think the key might be to play more and use BIAB less (ha, ha). We'll see how it goes. The bass here is a BIAB metal-style bass -- and I am droning along on the acoustic, too. Thanks for the visit.

Colin: I'll implement your harmonies tonight and see how it goes. Thanks for stopping by and the kind words.

Magne: I like that acoustic solo myself. Simple and direct to the point. Thanks for commenting.

Steve: I might have tried kinda in that line you mentioned (but I can't remember). I may try that again. Thanks for the suggestion.

Bob: I am assuming that a lot of folks will think of that Beach Boys tune. I stayed away from any "Help Me" phrases so I wouldn't be too "obvious". Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I'll come back later for the others.

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

You capture that sweet innocence of that first "love" perfectly in this song! And I love the setting.....bein' a lil' beach bunny myself.

I could totally see this being used in a soundtrack!

Really good stuff here, that a whole lot of folks can relate to...prolly every guy out there has had a "Rhonda". And come on, gals..we either WERE "Rhonda" or certainly wanted to be her!

Great job all around!

yerz, Ellen

Rick: Thanks for the visit and the comments. I am glad you enjoyed it.

Larry: I think everyone will think of "Help me, Rhonda" when they see the title -- I hope no one is too disappointed. Thanks for stopping by.

Tom: Hello -- your chorus idea would work just fine, I believe. I "kinda" like the quirkiness of the two kinda's though. Thanks for the comments and BIAB can be pretty cool.

Ellen: Thanks for the kind words, I am glad the setting thing worked for you. My daughter talks about "truth or dare" -- I am not sure I like the concept of the game, but that's the way it goes.

Thanks to all who listened! I have some harmonies from Colin that I have to add in. maybe I'll get to that by tonight or tomorrow.

Kevin

I'm a fan.

Everything thats old is new again, isn't that what they say Kevin? Good job with this, the warm feel of a song like this doesn't get old. Really enjoyed it!

I can't really add anything to what has already been said - I really enjoyed the tune, and the hook got stuck in my head for sure!

I know what you mean about trying to use the 'less is more' approach on backing tracks. When there is so much at your fingertips, it's tempting to eat every chocolate in the box.

I use JamStudio myself, I tried BIAB but found it too complicated for my pea brain :-)

Nice job Kevin.

Hi Kevin!

I really like this tune!
It's super catchy.
It really reminds me of a soundtrack to a movie.
It's definitely fun!

Kevin!!

How much do yo have to pay the cat to contribute??

I really liked this, I also thought there would be a few harmonies thrown in. It might be me, but the guitar at the very end..the high pitched sound seems too loud to me, or my speakers, I like it just seems a wee bit loud, but that is my untrained self saying its opinion.....

Great song and melody and singing and cat bells!!!

Todd: Thanks for stopping by and listening!

Mike: I've heard some good things about JamStudio. With BIAB (and most software) you you only have to learn about 10% to do 90% of the work. Of course, that last 10% can be tough. Thanks for the visit.

Becky: Thanks for listening and commenting -- I am glad you enjoyed it.

Tammy: I'll knock that guitar part down at the end a little. I actually had harmonies in there and oohs and aahhs -- but they sounded pretty bad, so I cut 'em out. Colin sent me some harmonies to add in. I am going to try and work on that this weekend. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Hi Kevin,

I like the music very much. To make it sound more 'modern' is just a question of production, imo. Put some Green day guitars, Lady Gaga synths and Linkin Park drums, it'd change everything, as far as 'modern' is concerned.

Mab would have a heart attack with your lyrics, I suppose - though I noticed some good visuals ; ) because the story is all implicit. That would classify the song under the pop/rock banner, or the music for the screen.

I noticed you didn't use any metaphors, wondering why, LOL. That's not a bad thing here, especially for that kind of song that should be kept 'light'.

Another nice one in your catalog.
Cheers, Yann

This is a cool song. I especially like the crunchy rythm guitar and the feeling that it imparts to the whole song. Very nice. Not to be a nit, but the vocals sound a little thin. Perhaps you could bump up the volume a bit and add some reverb or something to beef them up a bit.

Yann: LOL, I wasn't talking about Lady GaGa modern! I actually think the music I picked is just fine for today. The so called "older" music from the 60's and 70's is quite alive and well these days.

Oh, I don't think so -- it is not country genre. BUT, the lessons about "visuals" can be applied here. I wrote this before he did my "Wed Girl" review and his comments had me changing this verse to it's current status:

It reminds me of a time
I can no longer touch
or think about
it hurts too much

to this:

Arcade games
playing truth or dare
The light reflects off your hair
it’s too bright a glare

Nothing wrong with the original -- it just doesn't really say anything. I am doing the same type things in my newest one: "Hey Yea" -- which is called "Low on Faith" on Lyric board #1. I am dumping the whole "Low on Faith" verse, because it just doesn't say anything that pushes the story along.

Bater Thanks for stopping by -- I have a new version with some harmonies, but I just haven't had the time to edit it and post it. I'll do that today and try and thicken up the solo vocals a little more.

Kevin

I have to disagree with you here Kevin... I would like to hear this with the verse you were originally going to use. It's fine just the way it is, but I really like those original lyrics...

Nice song smile

Hello -- a new version with Colin added in. I try to fix some other things up and I don't think I helped too much. That's the way it goes sometimes.

Oh, I like the original lyrics just fine myself, but they seem to come too early in the story. What "reminds me of the time..."? The sound of Rhonda's name. Could be, but it just didn't seem to lock down a visual enough coming right there in verse 1. No big deal, I think I have hurt it with the newer version anyway (ha, ha).

Kevin,
Very nicely recorded and arranged. This has a wonderful sound. And yes that reverby accoustic in there at the end works really well. And is well played too.
