Raymond,
Nice to see a photo of you. I hope you'll stick around after the contest. We're considering a visit to Africa in 2011 or 2012 but we need to get more artists from Africa actively involved in JPF to justify the visit. We had several African artists at our awards show this year including one from Ghana who performed.
Continued success,
Brian

Brian and Bob,
Glad to hear from you both, and thanks very much for your kind words! Brian, I was here long before the competition – not as actively as I should’ve been, and your jab at me is well-taken)) One of the reasons I seem lacklustre is I think (I emphasize I think) most members here are C&W musicians. However, I am here and continue to be, because first and foremost, we are all musicians, before we branch out to our fortes, and need to learn from each other –as I surely have…. I welcome you to Africa in my very humble personal capacity. Even here in tiny Uganda, I am nobody, in music circles, but I know many of the key people, personally – professional musicians, tour promoters, etc – both here and in Kenya (the bigger scene). Please let know how I may be of help. For now, I will sound out JPF to them.
Over the last 5-7 years, several leading US artists have toured Uganda, with sell-out concerts. Mainly R&B/Hip-Hop, reggae and Gospel artists, like – Shaggy (he’s here almost every year), Coolio, Tevin Campbell, Joe, KC & Jojo, Cece Winans, Aswad, Chaka Demus & Pliers, 3rd World, Nicole Mullen, R.Kelly, Akon, Ron Kenoly, etc. We expect Lionel Ritchie, later this year.
Country musicians Don Williams, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, the Late Jim Reeves and Skeeter Davis are very popular in Uganda! Don Willams came to Zambia, several years ago, and had to cut the tour short, for financial reasons. If he’d come to Uganda, he’d have been able to fly back to the US, on a Concorde plane? ))

The reason "C&W" music seems common is that it's the genre (along with Christian/Gospel) that encourages writers to collaborate as a way not only to write better songs, but also to involve yourself into the close knit community. Other genres are less likely to want to co-write online via text only message boards. But C&W is only middle of the pack in terms of the music we get from members for the awards. Rock, Singer-Songwriter (M & F), Inst. Jazz and Rap are the largest genres. I wish we could have equal representations of other music, but it can only happen when and if folks like yourself get involved and lead the way.
By the way, I wasn't taking any sort of Jab at you. I can't even figure out why you thought I did? I was simple commenting on the fact that we've seen a growing number of artists and writers involved in our awards from Africa and we'd love to get more of you involved so we can visit and meet with friendly musicians around the places we visit. We prefer to know folks ahead of time so we have some people to visit and meet when we travel. Most of the contemporary music we got from Africa was either Folk type or Rap or Reggae as you said. We'd love to have all of you come here and share what you're doing. I think you'll find that they'll receive a warm welcome.
Brian

Brian, what I thought was a (lighthearted) jab was when you said “I hope you’ll stick around…”. I’m sorry I misunderstood you, but I’d taken it all in jest, anyway..:-)
I’d love to visit the US, again, after my very short (10-day) trip, in October, ’07. I visited a friend in Philly, thought I’d catch up with a singer who wants to record some of my songs, failed to meet him, took the AMTRAK to see friends on Charlotte, then up again to see my sister in DC. I may be back in DC and Philly, for about 2 weeks, in September. I’ll let you know of my itinerary.
Please mail me, at ntaho71@hotmail.com, and later link up with each other on MSN, SKYPE or yahoo messenger, so we talk more about African musicians, vis-à-vis JPF.
