In keeping in the same vein as my last question, and seeing Brian went in that direction, what was the first CD\album you ever bought for yourself?

I bought 2 at the same time...CCR's Green River, and Chicago II

Your turn smile

I was seven or eight when I bought my first single, The Partridge Family's "It's One of Those Nights (Yes, Love) and the first album I ever purchased was Charlie Rich's "Behind Closed Doors" when I was around 10 or so.

The soundtrack album for 'The Endless Summer.' The movie made an impact so I had to have the music. Although a Melodica was not exactly a mainstream Surf Music instrument I thought it sounded pretty cool.

Like Sub, my parents, brothers, and sister bought all the music until I was maybe 13-14. My first album was probably Black Sabbath "Paranoid", then Paul Simon's first two solo records, Neil Young "Harvest", The Edgar Winter Group "They Only Come Out At Night", and "Woodstock II".

Mine was a double album around 1962 of "Country's Greatest Hits" that had a song or two from folks like Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Minnie Pearl, etc...It was advertised on TV and I gave my parents my paper route money to order it for me...I was 7.

The first thing I remember was "In The Jail House Now"
it was on a vinyl 78 RPM record. I can't remember what else was on it. I am pretty sure it was Webb Pierce.
That would have been about 1956
I am pretty sure it was Pierce. The older Jimmy Rogers version had yodeling on it and I don't remember any yodels.

I had a little Phonograph that would only take one record at a time. It was green. You had to set the arm by hand and I remember I had to change the needle quite often.
It played 45's and, I think, 33 1/3's also.

Now that's OLD

Y'know, I think the first album I ever actually bought myself for myself was "Phoenix Door" by fellow songwriter Delonde Bell. And that was in 2007 or 2008. I think for most of my life, I have been blessed with friends, girlfriends, and spouses who bought music that I liked. (It is probably a good thing not everyone is loike me. The music industry would have gone bankrupt a long time ago.)

When I was in high school, we indulged in an early form of music piracy. (I won't name names, in case somebody from RIAA is still looking for us.) Four of us would go in together to buy an album, and then one of us would make reel-to-reel tape copies for the rest of us. I never ended up with the album, because our record player at home couldn't play 33-1/3 records--just 45s and 78s.

Ray Price's "Night Life" in 1962 or 1963.

If you're interested, and have never heard the song (it's my all-time favorite country song...hands down), here's my cover of it..

My first was a cassette tape of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "First and....Last"

How about the first album that you bought online? That would be our own Priscilla Hernandez's debut record, "Ancient Shadows".

I think the first album I bought was ABBA's The Album.

The title was especially helpful to a first-time record buyer - just in case I got confused. ;-)

The Album came out in 1977, but I think I bought it in 1978 when I was ten years old.

Hey Mike, My sister's boyfriend bought her a stereo with one of those clunky head sets. She put it in the living room so everyone could use it. She was into Gary Puckett (teenage girl). My mother and oldest brother liked The Beatles (we had plenty of Beatles music). My brother also bought Led Zeppelin I and II. "Paranoid" was mine though. I heard the title song on AM radio and had to have the album. I was a dishwasher at a restaurant making $30 cash a week, so other than saving up money to buy a ten speed bicycle, I could afford to plop down $4 for the album.

I could listen to it with the headset while the family was watching "Hawaii Five O" on TV.

Hey Ben, I hope you didn't have the headset on during the opening credits. Hawaii Five-O had one of the best theme songs ever!

Freshman Year in College, '64...in a 10-Man-Off-Campus-"Dorm" with 2 future State Senators, 2 future Ministers, 1 future World Travel Guide, 1 future Economics Prof at Princeton, 1 future Insurance Co Owner (Our Beatles-Coiffed Canadian), 1 who took over Dad's Business, & 1 who never DID stay in touch with us after graduation {ALL from Wealthy Families}..there was a LOT of 33 1/3 Albums to listen-to/Back-Home, we just had a 78 RPM whateveritwas.

I started up a biz doing Custom Cards for the guys, & proceeds from one of 'em got me enough loot to go out & buy an early copy of Simon & Garfunkle's "Wednesday Morning, 3AM". The Beatles had JUST made their inroads to the College Crowd...that I remember..& our Canadian Bro had the only "Beatles Haircut" on-campus--real popular with the ladies!

He also brought in the only Jazz LP most of us had heard..Dave Brubeck/"Take 5" was played even more than The Beatles, at first.

I was seven years old and the album was Thriller by Michael Jackson! 28 years later and it's still the best album of all time!!!
