Hi folks friends This is my latest finished song. It's my 16 year old singer again. I really do hope that you enjoy. God Bless Roy http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9246107‘We’ll Play The Hand You’re Dealt’ © Roy Cooper 2010 Folks said go to high school It will really do you good I told them what I wanted And they said they understood I said singing’s my passion A gift given from above Was all I ever dreamed of Singing is my one true love Chorus: My folks they both stood by me, They could see the way I felt Said young girl we’ll run with you And we’ll play the hand you’re dealt. Drove down south from Canada Thought Nashville’s the place to go Took a chance on the future In a place we didn’t know My folks struggled every day And my momma home schooled me Then at night and most weekends A singing country’s where I’d be. Chorus: My folks they both stood by me, They could see the way I felt Said young girl we’ll run with you And we’ll play the hand you’re dealt. Bridge: My folks they did right by me moving down to Tennessee Paved the way for my future because of their love for me. When I’m standing on the stage and I’m through singing to you all Should be them who come up here and take a curtain call Chorus: My folks they both stood by me, They could see the way I felt Said young girl we’ll run with you And we’ll play the hand you’re dealt. I said my folks they both stood by me, They could see the way I felt

Man Roy, this is outstanding. One of the best songs I've heard on the site. The vocal is great as well as every aspect of the recording. You can be excited about this one.

Great tune Roy Sounds like you wrote the singers own song. Maybe there are good things in it for both of you.

Thanks for having a listen Mike. I am so pleased that you enjoyed the song. Very astute of you to spot that I wrote the song with the singer in mind. That is exactly right. And didn't she do well. We had no consultation at all. I just trusted her to get it right. Thanks again God Bless Roy and Helen

Excellent song, Roy! Congrats! Music drew me in with its contemporary country sound that is well conceived with enough changes to keep it interesting throughout. Lyrics are clear, concise and move the story along effectively without getting redundant. Mind images are spot on too. Wish I would have written it! Love the vocalist! Top shelf stuff in all facets! -Dave

Hi Gus.Thanks for looking in again.
I had to go through my lyrics to remember which one you meant lol. Every song I do changes names and plots about 10 times.
This is a different song to "BORN TO BE A COUNTRY STAR" which had the 'singing is my destiny' line in.
That song ended up as 'My Grandpa's Gift To Me'.
here is the link friend to that song.
http://www.jpfolks.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Board=21&Number=817886&Searchpage=1&Main=90061&Words=+grandpa%27s+gift++&topic=0&Search=true#Post817886
So does that make a difference on this song. haha

That girl can sing very well and the production was top-notch. The melody was good, too. I enjoyed my listen.

Hi there Roy,
I might be a smidge late to the party, but this one was worth the wait. Very touching lyric -- which in the hands of another vocalist MIGHT have come across as a bit saccharine. But boy can this girl sing! Wow. The bridge was my favorite part, and the way your gal soared at the end of it into the chorus -- stellar.
Yup, you should sure be proud of this one!! Congrats to all of you!
Cheers, Beth

Howdy Homer, thanks for filling me in on Grandpa's Gift. When I read this lyric, the potencial from switching to the present tense throughout jumped right out at me, So I decided to show you what I saw....Let me know what you think?............Gus
Folks said go to high school=FOLKS PREACHIN', FINISH HIGH SCHOOL It will really do you good= IT'S THE, ONE PATH THAT ENDS GOOD I told them what I wanted= ME EXPLAINING, WHAT I NEEDED And they said they understood= SO THEY, FINALLY UNDERSTOOD I said singing’s my passion=PROVING, SINGING IS MY PASSION A gift given from above= DELIVERED FROM ABOVE Was all I ever dreamed of= SPENT ALL MY TIME, DREAMING OF Singing is my one true love= CUZ' SINGING IS, MY LIFELONG LOVE
Chorus: My folks they both stood by me,=BOTH FOLKS STAND RIGHT BY ME They could see the way I felt= THEY CAN FEEL THE WAY I FELT Said young girl we’ll run with you=SAYING LIL' LADY, WE'LL RUN WITH YOU And we’ll play the hand you’re dealt.= PLAYING THE HAND YOU'RE DEALT
Drove down south from Canada= DRIVING SOUTH FROM CANADA Thought Nashville’s the place to go= THINKING, NASHVILLE'S THE PLACE TO GO Took a chance on the future= TAKING A CHANCE, ON OUR FUTURE In a place we didn’t know= IN A PLACE, WE SURE DON'T KNOW My folks struggled every day= BOTH FOLKS STRUGGLING EACH HARD DAY And my momma home schooled me= MY MOMMA, HOME SCHOOLING ME Then at night and most weekends= MOST ANY NIGHT, & WEEKENDS A singing country’s where I’d be.= BELTING OUT COUNTRY'S, WHERE I'LL BE
Chorus: My folks they both stood by me, They could see the way I felt Said young girl we’ll run with you And we’ll play the hand you’re dealt.
Bridge: My folks they did right by me moving down to Tennessee Paved the way for my future because of their love for me. When I’m standing on the stage and I’m through singing to you all Should be them who come up here and take a curtain call

Thanks Gus for coming back.
I did think of doing it the way you sugested but wanted to write it so that if an older person sings it, it would be in the past tense. I feel it would last longer for the singer that way. Of course I could be wrong. lol
However your suggs are very good and I will put them in my folder for a day when I may redo this song. For now I am moving on with some other songs.
Your suggs and comments are always appreciated Gus.
BUT.. did you like or dislike the song THE WAY IT IS.
And did you have time to take a listen of Grandpa's song Gus.
speaket later
God Bless Roy and Helen

Your granddaughter is SO GIFTED! WOW! I loved the other tune I heard her sing (Grandpa's Gift to Me) and this is outstanding as well! I wish she was MY daughter...I'd live vicariously through her (bumping her off and taking the mic before she wrestles it back and says "GO SIT DOWN, MOM!!! ) Taylor Swift is wonderful, but she has some stiff competition here! Nice story line too...I know a lot of parents that take that rough journey.
