Scott this is very cool. The title drew me in then the song delivered.
Had a strong "Thunder On The Mountain' feel to it. Good job. Thanks, Bill - glad it worked for you Dylan has a lot of songs with that feel - suspect he had quite a bit of influence on this Scott

Very entertaining, Scott. And the resonator is bright! Thanks Jonathan: Seems the only way I can learn a new instrument is to write a song with it... Scott

Scott,
This is great, I know you heard it all before, but thank you for making me laugh and smile, that is a great gift to give.
Hi Tammy: Many thanks for that - the pleasure was all mine Scott

For a nonsensical lyric this is pretty darn good I had my toes tapping from start to finish. Nice job all the way around. Cool - glad it had that effect! Thanks Ken! Scott

I thought it was great!
This friend of mine has been trying to get me more into blues and I'm fighting all the way but I enjoyed this.
Ha - same here. Finally decided the way to get into it was to try one that was more on the humorous side than serious side. Thanks, man - glad you enjoyed it. Scott

Hi Calvin: Thanks. The delivery of that verse is much different than the others and I almost didn't include it. Then I thought, "Why the hell not?" Scott

I finally got around to giving this a spin. Guess I'm with everyone else. The lyric is great and I liked the harp and resonator. Wish I could play half as well as you. I think the vocal might need to be just a bit louder. Verse four was my favorite with all those internal rhymes, very Dylanesque.

Hey Wendy: This one is actually incredibly easy to play in an open tuning.... Some other folks have commented on the vocal levels too - I'll take another look at the mix. Thanks! Scott

Hey Scott,
Man...there's just no end to your musical talents! Great, fun song...and that Fender resonator sounds sooo good. Loved the harp. No nits from me.
Beans and Dirty Rice....how original! What a fabulous song.
I am certainly hearing some good music this morning.
Always a true treat to hear anything by you Scott. I am in awe of your talents.
Hope you have a terrific week-end.
Kind wishes, Gail

Great Scott. I get to be the first on this one. I was gonna quote my favorite lines of the song but there were too many good parts. Love the story about the cream/no cream. Actually each verse is a complete story within a story. Funny as heck and fun musically. One of your best I think but that's hard to say cause everyone of your's is a jewel. Very very clever lyric. I can't say enough. Reminds me with your gruff voice and the up tempo, humorous blues of Dylan's recent work the last few years that have given him rave reviews again.
Once again I'm jealous Buddy.
Hey there Scooter, Just trying out this critiquing stuff again and you're my first victim. Anyhoo, I was trying to put my enthusiastic response into words, when I decided to see what others had to say. Lo and behold, the first guy out of the gate nailed it (thanks Steve!). So let me reiterate EVERYTHING he said. This is top-notch stuff Scott. Your gravelly voice suits the lyric perfectly, and the vignettes are clever as all get-out. Way to break in the new guitar ! Cheers, Beth

Hi Gail! Every song I do is at the end of my talent Thanks for all the nice words - I'm glad you got a kick out of this. Got the idea for the title from a Red Beans and Rice sign I saw while out driving. I love when stuff like that happens Scott

Kristi Thanks Kristi! The title was inspired by a sign I saw while out driving - but I think it tapped into something older. About 25 years ago, I met a guy on the street in New Orleans. He didn't ask me for money - instead, he said he knew a place that had great red beans and rice for cheap and would I buy him dinner. Don't know why I didn't just give him the money - instead I went and ate with him. He was an entertaining guy who took it on the chin and still kept ticking (mixing metaphors there). Just occurred to me that the guy in this song is a lot like he was Scott

Scott, you've gotten a lot of response so you don't need mine. I can't add much anyhow. But I have just got to say this is way cool fun. You really are a tremendous songwriter.
Have fun, John

Scott,
Really enjoyed this one. I could hear George Thorogood singing this one in my head. I liked the laid back approach but could definitely hear this being done with a little more of an edge as an alternative version. Enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing!
