Here's one that I had on the forums a couple weeks ago....inspired by my own mother's recent words she sent me in the form of a poem....She will be 90....real soon. This is for her. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9229980Called Heaven Today © 2010 Janice Hopkins I’d see her all the time on the night shift Wisp of a gal, nearin’ 90 real soon She always made me feel welcome Like an honored guest in her room Lift 1: She was getting so frail…. but knew her own mind But the recent things left in the blink of an eye Turning for an instant from the Good Book She said with a confident look…….. Chorus: I called Heaven today Been so long since God called him away He reported he was doing just great Exactly what I hoped He would say And I told Him, let him know that I’ll be there real soon Softly I rushed from her room She called Heaven today She’d tell me the line’s never busy God must sit by the phone, and wait for our call He always makes me feel welcome Like a guest in some golden hall Lift 2: I asked how she had gotten… this direct line She told me with faith that it’s there all the time Told me that He said to get prepared soon The tears flowed as I left her room When she said…. Repeat Chorus: Bridge: One Sunday evening I went in to say hello Lying on her pillow was the Bible I’d come to know Staff said she left at dawn and seemed so ready to go So………… I Called Heaven Today Just to see why God called her away He reported she was doing just great Exactly what I hoped He would say And I told Him, let her know that now I’d get there too For me she went way too soon To a place Called Heaven Today

Jan, that sounds really sweet. Heather's voice fits it very well too.
Have fun, John

It seems that the volume of this song has been playing very low on soundclick. I have just uploaded the new version. Hope you will give it another listen....thanks so much.

Jan this is one very beutiful song.
Me and Helen just sat here in complete silence and let the song just wash over us.
Heather has done a great job on getting the feeling to come through.
I think you should both be really proud of this song.
Helen justs keeps saying wonderful over and over.
God Bless Roy and Helen.
ps. Not one nit from me or Helen.

Roy and Helen,
Thank you so very much for listening to this and for feeling the emotion that I felt while writing it. From the bottom of my heart, I am happy to know that someone gets where I was coming from on this. Tomorrow is the 90th birthday party for my great Mom. She wrote the first 4 lines of the chorus, without even knowing it. She sent me those lines out of the blue...it was very unlike her to do something like that. I took it as a sign.....it inspired this song.
I hope you will keep listening.

It's sounding good.
Not my kind of topic, me being an unbeliever and all that, but it seems to work well and convey the intended message and emotions.

Steve....believer or not, I'm glad that the song seems to work and I am so glad that you still took the time to tell me that. It is very appreciated indeed.

Hey, what'd you go and do that for? Now I got wet stuff on my face and my eyes are all blurry. Thanks a lot! Janice, I loved this lyric when you first showed it to me, but this is amazingly beautiful! Definitely going in my Best of JPF file. The huggiest of hugs, Greg

Gail,
I am happy that it made you think about your own Mom. Mine was plenty surprised and over taken with emotion yesterday, at her surprise 90th birthday party. Everything went wonderful...had a great turn-out, fantastic weather and wonderful food. She was so touched and happy to see so many that she hadn't seen in so long.
And....she loved this song and her contribution to it.
Thanks so much for listening. I am glad that you liked it.

Gosh Janice,
You got me all misty-eyed over here! What a poignant piece, with a great premise. If I may expand upon it, I do wonder if our "elders" might get a chance to "cut in line", so to speak, when they want to make one of those calls. God might even have caller ID. (heck, that could be an interesting hook: "If God Had Caller ID...I'd Never Get Thru the Pearly Gates" -- lol.)
Anyway, I'm so glad your mom had such a nice birthday celebration, with family and friends there to share it with her. I'm sure this song was the cherry on top of the day. I will add that we did something similar for my grandmother when she turned 90, thinking, 'well, you never know'.... But just to show us up, she's still here -- at 104!! Haha, she is a pistol. May your mom enjoy many more years as well.
Thank you for letting us be a part of her special day.
Cheers, Beth

Greg....sorry to get you all misty-fied, but you're just a big puddle of mush anyway and I know it...LOL. You are way too easy...HA.
But...that said, I 'm glad that you like it, even with the music.
I appreciate that so mush....and you also know that.

Thanks so much for all of your nice comments and reflections, Beth. I so appreciate them and the fact that you listened.
Yeah...it meant alot to her for sure. Next year she probably won't even remember it, but for now....she does.

Janice,
Songs that evolve from real life always seem to have the the most emotional impact. This is a beautiful effort. Your vocalist also did a wonderful job for you. Well done!

Thanks for that, Tom...While this one isn't exactly from a real life event....my mom's recent words to me inspired the story here....and THEY were VERY real to me. So glad that this one touched you at least a little.
I'm glad that you listened..yes, Heather sang it really pretty.
