Well sort of... I've been reading Recording Magazine's Marty Peters reviews for many years. I was beside myself to have him place me in the "Spotlight". Here's the review: http://www.recordingmag.com/taperev...-April_Spotlight_33&utm_medium=emailOkay, time to come back down to Earth. John

Way to go John! It was a great review and deservedly so. Thank you Kevin! Funny thing was; I received an email from recording mag this week. When I saw the word "Spotlight", I just assumed it was an advertisement, so I deleted it. Someone that saw the review, emailed me to congratulate me. Otherwise, I would never have known about it. I guess I better take it easy on the delete key in the future. John

Success? Yes. And, well deserved success it is. You've done a remarkable job on that and now, hopefully, this bit of press will translate into dollars. Excellent work both technically and artistically.
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

Excellent work both technically and artistically. Thanks Mike! Well even if it doesn't generate dollars, I'm glad the bottom-end issue was addressed by Marty Peters. I was always concerned about that. I guess if it's good enough for Marty, I reckon it should be good enough for me. Best, John

We already knew you were a success John, now the world is finding out. You should feel especially good with this quote: when this short composition turned out to be one of the most "real" recordings we have heard among the thousands of submissions we have received over the years, and the first entirely-virtual song to make it into our Spotlight.I too am amazed at virtual instrumentation and you stuck out among "thousands". You're obviously doing something very right. I'm sure Sandra is proud of you also. I read on another thread you mentioned something about having 20-30 (do I have the number right?) of songs you had w/Barbra Streisand in mind. I'd love to hear them. I have one for her too that I secretly fantasize about. Anyway I would love to hear what you have for her, where can I find them? Congratulations and well done. I listened to the piece and it sounded like the real deal. Best of basking in the spotlight, Lynn

Wow, 5 stars. That's great, John! Although, I think they must have mixed up your photo with someone else. Love the piece.

I listened to the piece and it sounded like the real deal. Best of basking in the spotlight, Lynn Thank you Lynn! Probably half the songs Cal DiFalco and I wrote would fall into the Streisand genre. Yeah, I know what you mean about fantasizing about Streisand singing our songs. Cal and I have tried many ways to get our songs to Streisand. Almost impossible. When Diana Krall was producing a new CD with Streisand, we even funneled some songs through Diana's sister that works with a Children's hospital in Cal's area - we have no shame . Sent songs to Streisand's hotel when she was doing Vegas. Contacted 20-30 of her publishers. Begged, pleaded, and sold our souls to no avail. Oh well, we still have our fantasies. Maybe we could start a “Songs we wrote for Streisand” thread. Love to hear your Streisand tune. Feel free to post it here. I'll have to dig my external hard drive out to post some of my Streisand tunes. Haven't written a song in almost two years. Best, John

Hi John me again....You'll have to dig that out because I for one would love to hear what you have. I'm venturing to say they were really good. Was Cal your lyric guy at the time they were written or do you do both music and lyrics?? Sharing something funny.... being very naive' at the time but excited, can you believe I actually somewhat "ghermed" Marvin Hamlisch. I never even knew at the time what "gherming" was or had heard the term, and infact, learned that very important word and what it meant right here on JPF after the fact. I had mailed him the lyrics (even neatly laminated the lyric sheet so it would stand up nice and straight on his piano) and asked if he would be interested in writing a melody, as I respected his talent, etc. bold of me or an idiot?? Don't answer that. He was kind enough to write a quick note saying politely "no thank you" in his own talented fingertip handwriting so what a gentlemen! I have since ever so slightly tweaked the lyric and made up my own melody, harboring no ill feelings towards Mr. Hamlisch. Hence at your request here are the words w/melody nestled nicely in my neurons. Of course you have to picture this being sung in that quintessential Streisandish style. "I Should've Known" (c)2006/2010 Lynn OrloffUnassuming Never knowing love was looming I was new at this, I must admit Never guessing Here I am and I'm confessing I was caught off guard, perhaps naive' And in that moment unprepard Kind of shy and kind of scared I was clearly taken in by you You stole my heart, you stole each kiss Letting me think I was first on your list But like a thief you robbed me blind Played with my heart and you played with my mind I should've known...Coy and cunning You would call and I'd come running Guess I only have myself to blame Unsuspecting Should've spent more time reflecting Maybe then I'd see I was ignoring too often that soft voice of reason More than just once I thought of leaving But I was in too far and much too deep Repeat Chorus possiblyBridge It might've been a bitter cup I won't give in I won't give up I know the best is yet to be There's someone waiting just for me Final Chorus You stole my time, you stole my trust You thought of you, while I thought of us And just like a thief you robbed me blind But darling you did for the very last time
Only I should've known..shouldn't IBest, Lynn Perhaps "I should've known" not to gherm!! Now where's yours John????

Wonderful romantic lyrics Lynn (and sad, my favorite)! It's a shame no one stepped in to compose music for them yet. Yes, I can definitely hear a Streisand song in those lyrics. Okay, here's one. I haven't tracked down the lyrics yet, but the vocal is pretty much on top in the mix - should be able to hear most words well. "Immaginary You" Lyrics: Cal Francis DiFalco Music: Me http://schicksville.com/Music/Mp3-Imagine-Cal%20Mix.mp3Best, John

Very very pretty John, I really liked the concept/idea of an "imaginary you", I listened several times and I kept wanting there to be two lines at the very end of the song and that they would rhyme instead of just one He has this line alone at the very end of the song. I can't fall out of love with an imaginary youThought it would sound nice to have: And so for now these fantasies and dreams will have to do For I can't fall out of love with an imaginary youJust thinkin out loud John. Forgive me. Share more please. who was your vocalist? Another song I'll be listening to again...

Finally had a placement for "Cutthroat" (Recording Magazine critqued track). It was used by NBC for a Today Show promo. Funny, someone on another website told me this track couldn't be used for anything because it didn't make sense (too many unconnected parts). I reckon it doesn't have to make sense these days. John
