I am not sure if this is in the right place so I am sorry if it isn't. I bought a San Disk Sansa 2GB MP3 player. I have an iPod touch and have no idea how to truly use the MP3. I bought it so I could record and upload my songs. I want to be an active participant on this page and can't because I am unable to upload my songs. I can't figure out how to record on the MP3. The program on my PC and laptop are both quick time and it is not in MP3 format. In a word, HELP!! I need it explained to me in laymans terms, please. Thanks in advance...

Howdy Stacey, Gus here. I am the furthest thing from an expert as you can find. But I don't think you can record to your MP3 PLAYER I do know there is a free program you can download =AUDACITY. With it, & a microphone to plug into your computer, you can record yourself singing dubbed over existing MP3 instrumentals or record yourself playing, then add your vocals to that, then you can export them as MP3 format recordings & store them in your computer for uploads to Soundclick etc ..............Hope this helps..............Gus

It helps Gus! Thanks! I misunderstood the reviews then because it has a built in voice recorder. UGH!! I appreciate all of your help. It is a good thing I got it cheap! LOL!!

Actually, your mp3 player does have a voice recorder built in. It will not be worth a hoot for music though it would suffice for quick recording of thoughts, lyric ideas & etc.

Dak,
I don't play music so I need it just to get my ideas down. So, I figured how to record now I just need to upload it. Why can't it all just be simple? LOL!! Thanks Dak!

Hi Stacey,
Download the free version of `Switch', which will convert your files to MP3.

I have not used this particular make or model but would suspect it is similar to others I have used. The player has a built in mic and will record anything it hears like voices etc. It will usually record as Mp3 format. The quality will not be great but will be OK for very rough note taking purposes or to quickly lay down an idea. The player plugs straight in to USB so files can be transferred to and from a PC. Probably no need for file format conversion software as you will already have it on your player in Mp3 format and then it is just simply sent to your PC. This product will suit your needs at this moment BUT in order to progress any further with your music you should learn how to play an instrument and learn the rudiments of music composition, sound capture and recording techniques. It is almost a pre requisite if you want to be taken seriously as a songwriter.

Big Jim... thanks! I am getting a keyboard and am working with a friend on my music too. I just uploaded some stuff. The recorder on my phone sounds better than the MP3 so I used that and converted them.
Steve P... you are a Godsend... I downloaded it and it worked! Yeah!
Thanks you guys for all of your help!
Stacey~
