I only have a few works lying around the house. Several of my works were commissioned and of course are with the owners. Others were given to family members. (Before scanners were available to consumers.)
Anyway, this one is a colored pencil portrait. I used a photo (I will see if I can find it) for blocking in, but then Jennifer, (my next door neighbor's daughter) had to sit for me several times so I could finish the portrait and make it look like her. I used Prismacolor pencils. The paper board is non-archival and starting to show age. Her mother wanted it but it was one of my first good attempts and I wanted to keep it. I had to crop it to fit it into my scanner so you are missing some of the hair detail on the bottom left side. One of these days I will have to take it to print shop and save it to an eps file.
Thanks, Randy. It is cropped so there is some hair detail missing. She was a lovely little girl. I wish I could find her so I could give her mother and her a print of the picture.

"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek
Hi, Calvin! Thank you so much. I do feel kind of proud until I notice imperfections. Then I get kind of disappointed. But I guess no one else notices them and I think sometimes we get too hard on ourselves. Most of my art learning came from library books.

Thanks, Polly. I got into colored pencil work when I was trying to get into calligraphy, thinking that maybe I could support myself that way. I bought some Prismacolor artist colored pencils to do illustrated letters and after I borrowed a book on colored pencil work, I got interested in doing portraits instead. Artists do a lot of fantastic works with them nowadays and they have become a mainstream artform.

Thanks, Mike. I am working on the waste part. She had the most beautiful eyes. She was a gorgeous little girl and very nice as well. I hope she retained her niceness when she grew up. She may have a little girl of her own by now.
