Every song the production, the voice and the instrumentation is jaw dropping amazing from Big Jim. When he comes out with a new song, I know I am not going to get much work done when I start listening. His version of "little help from my friends" cost me a mornings work since I had it on repeat over and over. A truly gifted artist. No matter if it is an original, a collaboration or a cover he always nails it. What are your favourites?

I love all of Big Jim's stuff. A close second for me was Natives are Restless Tonight, which he did as a collab with (I'm pretty sure) Tampa Stan and Beth. But my favorite is "A Waltz Made for Two" which is here: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6465816I have this one on my iPod and play it a lot Scott

Favorite lines Well we’ve been together for thirty one years And to be perfectly honest there has been some tears But we kiss and make up and we cuddle real tight We waltz with each other for most of the night

"Blinded by the Light" is pretty hard to beat (ha, ha, ha). I like just about anything Big Jim does. Picking a favorite is too much work!!

Big Jim is Joe Cocker, Rod Stewart, Steve Winwood, and Neil Diamond, all rolled into one plaid kilt wearing innocent little fuzzball. He's not as gruff as he is perceived to be. He's really (GULP) kind of a nice guy.
I've heard some of his recordings. He doesn't imitate. He sings the songs in his own style, enough to leave no question that the song was taken over by Big Jim.
I would love to just show up at one of his shows to listen.

Thanks for all the great comments......This has been a tonic injection and put a smile back on my face. I am not worthy LOL. We should be in Spain at this moment but due to the volcano in Iceland causing all flight to/from UK to be canncelled the trip is off. Polly out of all the songs you could have chosen you picked my fav.....great minds think alike.
Thanks again to you all for putting up with me and for giving my stuff a listen. Glad that at least some folk appreciate it. Now if you just tell my wife that I am good for some thing it would make my year....LOL
BTW Kevin with your approval I would like to make a full live band demo of Long Time Love.

Big Jim: Cool, I would be honored! Just make sure the guitar player doesn't over-play like I did! Feel free to change anything you need to as you go along. The backing music is just a track from guitar center's "king of the blues" contest. Feel free to change any of that, too.

My fave's would be "Without a trace" and "The letting go".. killer IMO! Can't say I dig his new stuff, like "Toora loor a loo ra", "Voyage voyage", "My humps" and "Bad romance" as much. Seems a little too commercial IMHO I would love to hear him on a popopera classic like "Time to say goodbye", though

His cover of At This Moment always gives me chills (the good kind) but I also have a soft spot for Stormy Monday. After that, just about anything he has shared with us is cool by me!

I think the recordings he made in the 1950's are his very best...although there is a certain roughhewn charm to his earlier recordings, to be sure. Churchill is said to have enjoyed quoting the occasional Merrilees lyric, when it was late at night and he was deep in his cups.
Any Merrilees performance is a favorite of mine. You can compare him to Cocker and Stewart, but it's really all Big Jim--he's one of a kind.
But according to the great Rory Gallagher, you might want to keep him away from your guitar...

I guess I missed all of Jim's songs while I was away for a while. Loved his Ole Stomping Ground collab with Kevin, but Fireflies is probably my favorite.

I really like Jim's renditions of "At This Moment" and "Blinded by the Light", but when I think of Big Jim, I think of the season when he was on American Idol and that whole backstage thing that ended up getting him and Paula Abdoul booted from the show. I hear that prior to that incident, Simon Cowell had him picked to win.

For me, it has been "Nowhere Man" since my first listen. I recall his softer side approach to this great Lennon write. Jim gave it careful attention to phrasing similar to how Sinatra would have handled it if for a ballad.

There are so many. Big Jim you have such a great gravelly, soulful sound which I love so much. Ole' Stompin' Ground...Blinded by the Light.....but, mostly Without A Trace...just love the way you sang that. Keep 'em coming for us....we love listening to someone who really knows how to sell them.
