Hi Gang, I think there's something wrong with my Karma; well, at the very least I KNOW there's something wrong with my ankle -- I broke it yesterday at my parents, as we were just beginning our family Easter festivities. Yup, in the wake of my on-going recovery from surgery, and after falling down the stairs on Saturday (those rascally cats always think they have the right of way), I took a bad step, and rolled my ankle. Immediately began to cry -- not so much from the pain, but more in the sense of "What the F---?!" Iced it, kept it propped up, poor Nonni cried all thru dinner (she turned 104 last week, so she's entitled), and went to sleep in my still-bed-as-chair-b/c-can't-lie-down accomodations, hoping that I would wake up this morning to find it was only a bad dream... But no go. Went to ortho directly, and thank god it's only a hair-line fracture, but it's still a friggin broken ankle! Refused a cast -- simply could not do it -- so I'm in this cast boot thingy for 6 weeks or so. So basically, AAAARGH!! Separately, I wanted to belatedly thank the following people who had offered their generous support on the "Bethieboo" thread Wyman had started: http://www.jpfolks.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/793516/page/2/fpart/2Those people are Wyman, Yann, Donna, Al, Nadia, Lynn, Tom, Stan, Gus, Scooter, Jean and Midnite. I can't wait to have a yard sale on all this orthpedic equipment some day. It sure isn't like holding on to it has helped much... Anway, thanks for any positive thoughts you wanna send up. I know it's hardly life-threatening and all that, but still, I can assure you it SUCKS! Take care, Beth

I was hoping that this wasn't about what I thought it was about -- but it was. Sorry to hear about another setback, but it still seems you have that fighting attitude. Prayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery. You need more cookies! http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6194216Kevin

Oh no Beth, when I saw the thread topic I thought the worse and was right and for once in my life I didn't want to be right!!! Now honestly Beth how many breaks is this for you in total? No matter what it's way too many!!! I hope you're not trying to "break" the Guiness World record, pun intended or trying to compete with the Easter Bunny by out-hopping him! You're not on Fosamax I hope! From what I understand Fosamax is suppposed to build bone but after prolonged use (5 yrs or more) it begins having the opposite affect and can actually weaken bones and cause spontaneous fractures (the kind where you don't need to fall they just happen ). And I hope no sodas as soda draws minerals right out of our bones ! Is it all from the prednisone or something else?? I want you unbreakable cause you're breakin' my heart!!!! Sending up fervent prayers, Lynn

Beth,
Gosh! I'm sorry to hear this. I'll be praying for you. I know you must be at your "breaking" point (perhaps an unintended pun intended). Be careful.

Geez Louise! I'm so sorry for your injury! I agree, we need to put you in a bubble! Be careful Beth. Hope your ankle heals soon. I know about those cats darting under your feet, got 'em here. I just walk really slowly when I sense one around. They've almost tripped me like, 100 times!

Poor baby! Take care of it and if they want you to have therapy, do it. I neglected a broken long bone in my foot and it took a lot of therapy to make it right.

So sorry, Beth:
That has to be a real bummer. Maybe the cats should be banished for awhile... or not, depending upon your feelings about them. Sure sorry to hear about this latest setback. Be brave.
Best,
Dave Rice

Sheesh Beth sorry to hear this latest misfortune. Get well soon. try to keep it elevated. I don't know what it is about some folks. We all have our bad days but bad days seem to plague some people.
You sound like my daughter. injured her shoulder lifting a patient.. Surgery Twisted her knee... surgery Twisted the other knee.. surgery slipped when getting out of a canoe. Broken wrist Fell and broke her other wrist. Surgery and pins. Pins later worked loose, surgery again Tripped on a speed bump.. Fractured tibia Walking, stumbled, fractured Tibia again. Slipped on water in her kitchen. Fractured foot Stubbed her toe. actually two. Broke them both. Got pissed and punched a wall. Yep broken hand. Slipped on Ice on steps. Broken radius, ulna, elbow, surgery. There were a couple more I just don't remember them
The latest Rolled her ankle just walking last week. Broken ankle which is in a removable cast right now, will be for six weeks.

Beth my thoughts are with you. You seem to get a lot of luck. Sadly most of it is bad. Why not buy a lottery ticket. Your luck has to change sometime.

Hey Beth,
so sorry to hear about that - yet again - misfortune. Seen 'Unbreakable', the movie? Met your counterpart already? Just kidding.
Seriously, that sucks! I admire your courage, though. Weak bones, maybe, but strong heart and mind.
Take care of yourself, yann

Beth, I am sorry to hear this. When I saw the thread, I had hoped (against hope) it was an old one that somebody had just discovered. But no, huh? The armor-plated Segway is a good suggestion. Should we start work on another album?

Beth: I would like to say that I am sorry to hear about your rotten luck but what happened to you was no accident. Cats are evil. Read on: Dog Diary vs. Cat Diary Now, let's see if we can get everything healed up all at once, just to see what that feels like. What do you think? Mark

Hi JPF'ers, Just a quick note to thank everyone for your on-going concern. At the moment I'm recovering from some food poisoning/stomach thingy, which has left me down for the count for the past week. Now I get to hop a plane to Florida this afternoon for a five-day visit with the in-laws (did I mention they are psychotic? ). Between stomach upset and broken ankle, not looking forward to the plane ride. At least the kids will enjoy the pool... Speaking of water, we had a nice flood in our basement from all the rain a few weeks back. Lost pretty much everything down there. Alas, my inlaws were not here at the time (lol!)... One bit of "maybe" good news....Marsha Lynn Brown, the publisher who has a few of my songs under contract (collabs with Ricki, Kristi, Wendy, and Letha ) sent an email the other day that she has a "hot lead" on Letha's and my song 'Lover's Trace' ( http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=949237&songID=7567802 ). I am not necessarily holding my breath, but it's nice to know someone is interested. Keep your fingers crossed for us. I have not written a song in SIX MONTHS. Anyway, thank you again. I'm sorry all my visits are about my seemingly endless litany of woes, but hopefully the road to recovery is coming to an end soon. In the meantime, wishing everyone well, and delighted to see so many new members on board. I am happy I was able to encourage one of those people myself, so in my absence i'ts gratifying to know the wonderful music continues. As an aside, I hope everyone in Europe -- or anyone else who is affected by this tragic volcanic eruption in Iceland -- is faring well. Mother Earth has certainly been shaking her fist a lot in recent months.... So take care, and hope to be back soon with lyrical news for a change. BTW, Mark, that "Dog Diary vs. Cat Diary" link was one of the funniest things I have seen in a very long time. THANK you for that. Both my cats enjoyed it thoroughly, as they both puked up hairballs within minutes of my reading it.... Ciao for now, Beth

Beth,
Man when it rains it pours! Sorry, after I wrote that, I thought about your poor basement. Someday things will resolve and you will get better. The law of averages or something has to work in your favor.
Maybe you can enjoy your trip by finding a way to tune-out the in-laws or amuse yourself by some subversive means? Good luck and take care. We miss you.

As an aside, I hope everyone in Europe -- or anyone else who is affected by this tragic volcanic eruption in Iceland -- is faring well. Mother Earth has certainly been shaking her fist a lot in recent months.... Thanks for your concern. The main problem is that the planes can’t fly so everyone is grounded. So you can imagine the problems that causes for some people and with the knock on effect for freight and food supplies. No one really knows how long it will go on for, it could be just a matter of days, but it could be weeks, months or years. On the up side, we have had lovely weather with no aeroplane noise, no vapour trails in the sky. Mother Nature will always be stronger than man and I take some comfort from that.
