I was watching some show where people had to literally scrape the ice off the roofs to keep damage to a minimum because that ice weighs a ton. Are you having to do that, Tom?
I know you think I'm crazy but that ice and snow looks beautiful to me. Probably because I don't live where it snows like that.
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

While beautiful, icicles like that are a sign you need better insulation. It can be different if you have warm, snow melting days and then freezing cold. That can form icicles too but much smaller.

WOW! I'll bet those will look even more beautiful if the sun ever comes out! Looks like you got some pretty good ice dams going on there. It's been a rather unusual winter and it's only just begun.

Gutters need cleanin' somethin' fierce! JD That would be true if we had gutters, but most of the big ones are just off the roof!

I know you think I'm crazy but that ice and snow looks beautiful to me. Probably because I don't live where it snows like that. I was up on the roof twice so far this season with a broom and shovels clearing it off. It is pretty but back breaking work. Thanks for checking it out.

HA - "better" is the key word. I don't think there's any insulation - you can stand by the snk and feel the breeze. Last year I had a cup of coffee on the counter freeze over. It's a 1800 farm house built on piers and it's slowly sinking into the ground.

Yikes! I bet one of those could crack your glasses..just like a "bullet" from a Red Rider BB gun!
We don't get much snow in Georgia, but every once in a while there's enough snow/ice to drive all the folks in metro Atlanta to the grocery store for a run on bread and milk. It such a novelty, my kids try to preserve the icicles in our freezer. Good luck on your drive to Jersey, sounds like you will need it.

Oh I'd never want one of those Wendy, because you can put your eye out with them. I'm not sure why bread and milk is the food that sustains you through a snowstorm, but it seems to be what everyone gets.
Thanks for checking out the pics.

Some got pretty close to touching the ground, but I broke them off. Added bonus - once broken on the ground, they make great dog treats! They love grabbing them and crunching away.

I wonder if you could make popsicles by hanging up a clean little bucket of juice or koolaide filled to the top. As the liquid expands, would it drip over the top and make koolaide icicles? On the other hand, if it did work, who wants to eat a cold snack like that in winter, lol.
