After 5 years of mass consensus and trying to add something to a simple style, warts and off form and all, I checked out Songcast as an indroductory point for a set of songs that I want to represent myself.

I have heard much of places like Taxi and CD Baby here.
Anyone here been with Songcast?

Hi Matt:

I've been thinking that someone else would answer you question. No, I've never tried them. Do you have a link? Of course, I can attempt to "google" them. Sounds like they want money just like Taxi and CDBaby but give us more details when you feel like it.

Regards,

Dave

I am pretty much someone that wants to vent my expression in a pop/rock vein and has been working at it for some time.

Yet I am not out make a life of it and be a "pro" while I still want the experience.

I came across Songcast on the righthand ad listings through Google.
I want all kinds of opinions and to see where my recordings stand on their own merits.

I have my own formless expression yet am looking for at least some form.

At Songcast, I noticed that the art work was looked at mostly for the approvals process with me.
But I would like to hook up with others also to be someone that is searching toward being some type of musician.

I would prefer maybe online distribution.
Maybe kick out something physical on cd also.

My late uncle owned a wax turntable and made records.
Wish I had that thing.

Thanks for your feedback and take care!

http://www.songcastmusic.com/pricing : $5.99 per month (plus onetime setup of $19.99 p/album or $9.99 p/single)

Seems like you have to have commercially viable music to even consider that place. Do you?

I have not looked at much as what is commercially viable outside of wanting to learn about the process.

I want to learn as much about the in's and out's of the trade as well as to make my expression more interesting and going to various sites for learning and feedback.
I found this site originally through search finding out about a scam.

Whether I go any place or not, I would like to be prepared.

I have been approved with the 3 songs I posted.
The songs submitted for itunes can take up to six weeks and it was early December that I submitted my songs to Songcast.

But I want the experience more then anything and whatever happens happens.
Thanks for the feedback and I really appreciate such honesty in a site.

Hello,

If you are wanting to learn about the commercial side of the music industry, you should probably realize first and foremost that music is a one on one process with the listener. Having sites like CD Baby, Song Cast, or any of the others are about as effective as building a billboard in your living room, without an active live componant where you are performing or having your songs performed out in front of the public.

The amount of product on anything that has to do with the Internet limits the abilities of any one site to distribute much. It is about going out there and reaching an audience. Music has always been like that and always will. Finding ways to get your music to an audience, building fan base is what the journey is all about. Song Cast and the others are simply a small part of that journey.

The one's playing in the bands in venues and locals are always going to have a leg up, no matter what.

I don't have the personality to be a performing musician.

The bit that I know of forms have been by ear.
But imitating acts is too generic and copped to me.

I have certain familiar influences in song and vocals for example, even though I would not present that for being any type of work for hire musician.

I fell in love with music initially off of theme music for TV shows.

The stuff that is on a network now called RTV.

It is funny how memories of our youth that have been forgotten can bring us back.

I would like to do convincing covers of the theme songs for "I Spy", "It Takes A thief", "The Bold Ones" and "Peter Gunn" eventually, as well as original themes.
I like themes for "X Files and "24", but forgot what originally perked my ears.
I would like to eek out more knowledge of the forms to do that theme song justice.

I have been looking at full songs to see how I can keep the listeners attention.

But I should look at it more bit by bit.

I have the few recordings I wanted for what I was out to do at present.

But I plan on taking the more conventional approach piece by piece.

That would not make it as frustrating for the learned members here that take the time so hopefully I may have more to offer as a musician and in collabs.

But I am not out to play in venues.

Thanks for the thoughts!

I was asked if I have a link at songcast and now I have one.
http://www.songcastmusic.com/profiles/mattbanx
The downloads are available in different formats - amazonmp3 and itunes and sell at a flat rate of 89 cents per download.
Mine are not on itunes yet but will be.

Amazon.com link:
www.amazon.com/mattbanx/dp/B00302ME0E

There is also a featured artist section if you want to go that route.

I am not out to promote other then to feel things out with 3 recordings I feel I can stand on.
It helps with the consensus.
