12/5/10: OK, still haven't updated this one -- so I'll let it goes as is again. One of these days I'll make a full song out of it! *************************************** Another holiday tune that I plan to update and fix this year -- but it is on that infamous hard drive that crashed. So you are stuck with last year's version. MP3: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7183363Kevin P.S. The original backing track from Rob is here: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7183577 , in case you want to jam with it yourself. ********************************************* Bad, Bad Santa (c) emmrich/leach 2008 Bad, Bad Santa What did you take from me? LOL - I remember this one. It's got a great sound to it, Kevin. Would be nice to have a few more lyrics but I reckon you're constrained on these jam tracks to some extent. Still, might be possible to work in another verse up front? Scott

Sounds pretty cool, Kevin. It made me think of an old video from SNL, where they followed this dude dressed as Santa all over town while he was drinking and smoking. It was pretty funny. I guess the holiday's bring out those extremes..the good and the bad.

Scott: I had to make a decision on more playing versus more singing -- I chose more playing (LOL!) It really is long enough for another verse, though.
Wendy: Thanks for listening. I haven't seen that SNL video, but I guess there are some "bad" santas out there!
Ricki: I wonder if any other songs have been written about Santa stealing your girl? It does make a decent blues song idea.
Thanks to all who listened.

Well of course you knowed I'd really like this very bluesy piece. Nice tasty harp playing and guitar and vocals - just real cool. Where's Billy Bob? Is that him? Nah!

Pete: I thought that if you were in the neighborhood you might take a listen to this one. It's a good photo for a "Bad Santa" song. Thanks for stopping by.
Gus: Blues sometimes touches a spot deep inside that you never can explain (if it's done well. that is). Is all music like that, though? Thanks for the visit.

Louis: The harp did work out here. Should have used it as a warning when Santa showed up!
Bob: The old rockers are all going country. Maybe a Bob Seger version would work out pretty well (LOL). Thanks for stopping by -- IO enjoyed your son's song, too.

Al,
Thanks for coming by. I realize your time is limited. This is just a fun, throwaway type tune. If you get a chance, come on back (but you probably heard this one last year).

Calvin: Thanks for stopping by. Waiting on the that uptempo, happy Christmas tune from you and Joice (LOL!).
Barry: There are a lot of blues at Christmas. But sometimes blues music helps folks because they see that others are worse off (ha, ha).
Joice: Thanks for the visit and listen!
John: I was going to re-do this one and make it longer, but I lost the original recording tracks and was too lazy to try and recreate it all. Next year I'll make a fuller song out of it!
Thanks to all who listened and commented.

Good blues jam Kevin. You've got a natural "blues" voice and can speak in a song. I admire that. I usually have to distort my vocal to sing blues and I don't like doing that.

Ben: I can't distort my voice at all, so I just "talk" it the best I can (ha, ha). Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Cool song ...
The extra reverb gives it a real old style sound.
Are there anymore lyrics? Like maybe add a verse where you get back at Santa, sabotage his sliegh and get his reindeer drunk.

I really enjoyed this one! Great blues sound. Only crit here is a just a minor one and not really a flaw. As has already been mentioned, I would also love to hear more vocals and preferably sooner in the song. All things considered... great track! Thanks for sharing!

Kimberly:...but really, I hope you will finish this one...whats the hold up? Ha, ha -- this one was composed by Rob as just a jam to play guitar along with, I just saw that spot in the middle as a place where vocals could go. If I want to add more lyrics I would have to cut and paste or re-do from scratch. Rob laid down a perfect groove that I would be hard pressed to duplicate. Plus the whole story really is laid out. This one's done! glyn: Thanks for the visit and comments. OK, maybe one day, I'll try to add more stuff, but it will be tough. R. Shayne: Thanks for stopping on by and commenting. Tampa Stan: Ha, ha -- good last verse. Thanks for giving it a spin. Tom W: Where I started the vocals was the only place where there seemed to be "room". Thanks for the comments. Tony A:You probably DID get that gibson -- but santa stole it! Kevin

Sounds as good as anything I hear on Bluesville. Nice vocals.
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Tricia: Thanks for stopping by and giving it a spin. Even though I am playing lead on here, Rob's phenomenal sense of rhythm and groove does make it pretty good.
Stan: Welcome back and thanks for the listen. Watch out for Santa!

Hey Kevin,
first time I hear this one, I'm very late to the party!
Blues and Christmas, I wouldn't have thought about it, but it's a great combination. Of course, Santa couldn't be the same as the one we're used to, LOL!
It's very well worth it to develop this lyric. I'm also sure you could write a few other Bluesy/Seasonal tunes. I really like this idea!
Cheers, Yann

Yann: Next year we have to put out an entire blues Christmas CD! Thanks for stopping by and giving it a listen. I think this is the 3rd Christmas for this tune.
Darrell: Maybe one day I'll reconstruct it -- or maybe someone else will (ha, ha). Thanks for the visit and listen.

Kevin, This one starts with a great blues groove that never lets up. I like this one a lot. It seems a shame this one is restricted to the Holiday song list by the Santa lyrics. Why don't you write a second set of lyrics that can work outside the Christmas music genre?

Dan: Thanks for the visit. I do have to write a couple of more blues tunes -- but the groove laid down by Rob here is unbeatable!
