TO ALL THE B.A. (and one Dallas and Nashville) VOCALISTS WHO SENT US YOUR DEMOS: Thank you. We very much appreciate your willingness to share your talent with us for consideration on a very special project. We have, however, selected one East Bay (Nor Cal) male Country vocalist who nailed it on the scratch vocal. His interpretation and style were exactly what we are looking for to complete this song. We work with many artists and have at least four projects slated between December of this year and spring '10. So you can be sure we will reconsider your demos when it's time to sign talent to one or more of those projects. We take every submission seriously. So don't be surprised if you get a request from us at some point to record a scratch vocal. Again, thank you for your submissions. We would like to personally thank you all but the volume of responses, well, left us a little overwhelmed! Now off to studio... Ya-ta-hey! SUBURBAN COWBOYS MUSIC ------------- We've laid down the percussion tracks. We're back in studio on 11/20 to add a few more instruments. We have a Grammy Award-winning producer who's standing by to hear it. We've created what just might be 'The 4th Saddest Country Song in History.' If you're a MALE COUNTRY VOCALIST and you're what we're looking for, specifically for this song, we'd like to audition you this week to help us put it over the top. Who we're looking for on this project: You're a baritone to tenor who can convey painfully lonesome the way Dierks Bentley did in "I Wish It Would Break," the way Trace Adkins did it in "Every Light in the House is On," and the way we do it in "What's Left to Finish?" What we need: -- Your demo via MP3 or links which must provide three songs you've done in the past two years; Helpful, but optional: -- a link to your site if you have one; -- a resume or list of venues where you've performed along with current contact info if you've done any. -- any reviews if you've got 'em. Recording session is in Menlo Park, CA on or shortly after 11/20/09. Gig pays: $100 with no royalties, but you will get a CD copy and, if you're good, we will use you on one or more projects between now and Spring 2010. You will also be heard by a Grammy Award-winning producer out of Nashville. Time commitment: 2-3 hours. SERIOUS ARTISTS ONLY. IF YOU CAN'T SING IN THE KEY OF 'G' OR 'C' AND YOU DON'T FEEL YOU CAN CONVINCINGLY CONVEY THE LONLINESS OF A MAN IN HIS 40s or EARLY 50s WHO LOST IT ALL WHEN SHE SAID GOODBYE, PLEASE WAIT UNTIL AFTER 11/20/09 TO SEND US YOUR DEMOS. THANKS! We may want to consider you for another song as we have 15 others in development and four which are slated for recording between December and spring 2010. You will be asked to listen to a scratch vocal and create one of your own using our melody and arrangement. Okay, so you think you're the male vocalist we're looking for? Great. Then send us your demo via links or MP3 attachment to: suburbancowboys@yahoo.com. NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE. WE MUST EVALUATE YOUR DEMO BEFORE WE CAN SPEAK WITH YOU. NO MUSICIANS AT THIS TIME, PLEASE. WE HAVE THAT TAKEN CARE OF. Be sure to put: DAMN I'M GOOD. DAMN I'M LONELY in your Subject line. [IF YOU'RE NOT THE RIGHT FIT FOR THE SONG BUT WANT TO SEND US YOUR DEMO FOR FUTURE CONSIDERATION, PLEASE WAIT UNTIL AFTER 11/20/09, THEN SEND YOUR DEMO WITH THE SUBJECT LINE: "Next In Line. But not a moment too soon."] Ya-ta-hey! Hi Guys.....I do not buy into hype and outrageous claims and promises....I bet most serious musicians are like minded. Most want to read lyrics and listen to music before committing to work with others....My tip..... less hype and outrageous marketing ploys...more substance....so far we have not seen or heard any of your stuff to make any judements about how good or bad your music is. You have a web site at least put tasters of you music there. My first impression is....now do not take this bad but...you guys are clowns who know nothing about music or the business and I would not waste time on guys like you...you are sending out all the wrong messages. I would be surprised if any decent serious singers would bother spending time either. You need to get it together guys and show what you can do rather than brag about nothing. You appear to be looking for a great singer to sing your song...does the studio you send a link to not have one? I bet they would be miles better than any mugs that show up for an audition. You cannot sell T shirts until you have a fan base or a following. On what I have seen I bet you have not sold any yet.

Interesting observations. All appreciated. So far, all wrong. But thanks for weighing in! And we welcome you to buy one of our T-shirts. For you, we might even give 10% off.

Hey Cowboys, I'm not sure just what you are asking for. Do you need a demo singer? If so you might check out J. Gale Kilgore at http://www.eyeball-records.com You can hear his vocal on the Web Site.

Interesting reply but all wrong....there is only one chance to create a first impression...and you blew it.... as I stated my first impression of you was not good.....but there is a chance to change things to create a good first impression for others. Perhaps folk might pefer to see a profile, read lyrics and listen to some of your greatest hits than watch you guys warm up your backside on a barbecue. Well maybe that is where your brains are and they are now frazzled stopping them from realising that my advice makes sense. LOL
Seriously guys now I have been messing with you and having a bit of fun..... you need to get your act together if you want to be taken seriously.

You mean other than taunt vocalists from Scotland in hopes that they'll get so p----d off, they'll fly us out just to see what we're about? Not much.
(Dude. Like the motion picture The Matrix...you're part of the equation. You've given us more promotion in 72 hours than the $140K we dropped last year! For that we're eternally grateful. Ask our CFO.)

By the way, we took the liberty (it's not like you weren't inviting it) to check out your portfolio. We were impressed with your cover song, A Little Help From My Friends. In fact, it inspired us to compel you to consider recording Come Together as it was done in the motion picture, ACROSS THE UNIVERSE. To be sure, the vocalist there sounded just like you. (That's intended as a complement in the event it gets lost in digital translation.)
So we're thinking, if you can set aside your anti-American hostilities (c'mon, confess, everyone outside the States harbors these, even some peeps in the States, even some peeps down the block) long enough to consider our military Christmas song, "MISSING YOU IN ACTION," in which a soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan writes to his spouse in Bend, Oregon right around the holidays, we might like to compensate you to record it. We're holding auditions this week through 11/30. We agreed we wanted either something very lonely (think Travis Tritt doing Trace Adkins in Every Light in the House is On) or very Randy Newman (think YOU).
Okay, so that's our olive branch. Take it or toss it in your Cuisanart and make oil out of it. Either way, please do not hesitate to get back to us.
By the way, did we mention the song will make you cry? Assuming you aren't so heartless as to be tear-less.
Doing our part for improving international relations...

You have me all wrong guys I am not anti American. Some of my very good friends are from the USA. I write and record songs all the time with folk from all over the world. I even perform on occasion with some of your kinsmen. I just am having a little fun with YOU guys. You pretty much asked for it and I was pretty much tongue in cheek.
I still would like to hear some of your stuff and maybe read a lyric or three.
On a serious note I just think you are approaching things all wrong. Maybe it is just the Brit humour that does not travel over the pond so much or the fact that you keep your music to yourselves whilst making great claims.
I am always up for a challenge and would welcome a fee for recording a song...it is what I do for a living. I do not know about auditions. But hey if you want me to produce a vocal for any of your songs.... no prob....just let me know how much you pay and I will consider it. I have my own home studio with decent equipmnt plus access to a pal's pro studio where just about anything can be done depending on how much is being paid. The songs you heard were all recorded by me with a little help from my friends. I think that is enough of an audition. I can sing in any style and have a range of voices that I can call on. PS not all the songs on my site are covers...in fact the vast majority are my own original compositions or cowrites with others. If you are serious about wanting me then the ball is back in your court... let me know...I am at your service for a price. PPS I hope the blisters on our backsides heal up real soon. LOL

Hey Suburbancowboys, Let me invite you to join in on the boards above so more people can check in. Here on the Mic Board not so many come down here.
And, if you need another sad country song or two, I have a few that aren't being pitched much. And Welcome to the boards. You have to take Big Jim with a grain of salt, or a Kilt or two. He's really Ok even tho I have threatened to take him to the Queen a time or two!

Hey Ray,
Thanks for the invite. We'll take you up on it. We're actually loving the live bantar and thrashing we're getting from Big Jim. Ever since we sold the Palamino, we haven't had much of a chance to get stomped. So what if he wears kilts? We'll take what we can get!

BJ: Fair enough. We'll get you over the lyrics and scratch vocal performed by my composer-collaborator, Daniel L. S. within the next 48 hrs. We pay a flat $150 (U.S.) per song (using our prerecorded music tracks) or $500 for three (also using our prerecorded music tracks). Royalties are subject to how we use it. If we use the cut on or as a demo, there aren't any. If it's a straight sale to the public, then we negotiate something that everyone can live with and still be friends. To keep the transactions clean and quick, we prefer PayPal but are open to alternatives. No, you can't have my teen stepdaughter or our horse. As for samples of our material, we invite you to check out our MySpace page (myspace.com/suburbancowboysmusic) although we toss out the caveat that the current material up there, unlike the our quickie samples on our site ( www.suburbancowboys.net),does not our necessarily represent latest and greatest material. When you hear "What's Left To Finish?" "Empty Arms," or "My X Marks the Spot on my Heart," you'll cry so heavily you'll make all that Global Warming- induced melting ice in the Arctic Circle look like so much sweat on a hamster's workout wheel. Hype? Who said anything about hype? We've already diverted a container ship carrying Kleenex to your home port.... Ya-ta-hey! rs/SCM

OK guys it is less than I would normally charge but I accept your terms. I have a paypal A/C and normally use dropbox to transfer safely any large wav files. Lyrics can be sent via email. I can even work to am MP3 sent as attachment but will work with whatever methods you deem best. I will require a scratch vocal and a backing tack. I will give you up to three dry takes for each song to comp yourself or a composite track deemed a "best version" this can either be dry or have fx added etc. the choice is yours. I can even master the track with your wav backing track to a completed version but that will cost extra. my email is bigjim1@blueyonder.co.uk

Terrific. We'll get you the scratch vocal immediately after the Thanksgiving holiday. Meanwhile, we'll hoist a thigh or leg in your honor.

Ah, ye of little faith. We haven't forgotten about you! This close to session, we had to make the standard round of 11th hour lyric adjustments to "Missing You in Action," the war-themed Christmas song on which we're interesting in having you track vocals. We've also tightened part of the composition. But consider the upside: You have about 11 months before we release it! We will be in touch soon.
By the way, we're now approaching Session VI, our final session, for 'What's Left to Finish?' (yes, the song we're billing as "The 4th Saddest Country Song in History.") Took more than 20 Bay Area auditions, but we finally identified an incredible and fairly unknown male vocalist for the three verse, three chorus, one bridge song. Instruments and vocals now in the can, and the offline instrumental edit to bed, we prep for the studio mix. Then it's off to Nashville for the first look by a Grammy-winning prod'r. Think you and the gang will like what we've done, especially the steel and acoustic/rhythm guitar work of vet Marty Atkinson. Incredible talent. He totally jelled the project. It's a beautiful song. Details soon. And yes, we will gladly test it before our peers. Very eager to secure the JPF's gang reaction.
Be in touch with music and lyrics for "Missing You in Action," shortly. Why does art take so dang long to finish?
Ya-ta-hey!
