I set my camera on a tripod, set the band up at the counter, hit the timer and ran over to get into the picture. I then blurred the background a little in photoshop to make the band stand out better. I was surprised at the results. I was thinking that this might look good in B&W

You might try making the back ground b&w and leaving the band in color like this. . .

Very smart to put the cute one up front. I like it, though I wonder if the guy standing is part of the band or not. I like it because it's not your "average" band pic.

VERY cool, Uncle Steve. Love the B&W version the best. That's album cover material.
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

The bartender looks too gay! LOL, just kidding! I like the black and white treatment too, but I'd like to see a couple of other things in color, like maybe the light fixtures and the cymbol hanging on the wall? IS the gay bartender part of the band? LOL

Nice shot, Unc. Even though you set it up, it looks like a nice candid.

Here's one with a little more color. Ya know I didn't even think to ask for permission to edit these pictures. Sorry if I'm stepping on toes.

Thanks Naomi, I really like the second treatment, just enough color. Thanks for taking the time to do this I'm going to attempt this version later on tonight. Steve

Tom; Ya' That cute one is always up front and us old guys kind of hang in the back. Not only is my daughter-in-law cute (with the sweetest New Orlean's accent you ever heard) but that girl can take the windows out with that voice of hers. The guy standing is our drummer and he should have been at the end of the counter. I may try this again set up like Moker suggested Take care Steve

Thanks Scott, I don't think this band knows anything but candid. We're all family and it shows! Steve

I will try this again with "Uncle Buzz" the drummer standing at the end of the counter(did you ever try and get a drummer to do anything). Much more visible that way. Thanks Steve

Ahh! that guy behind the counter is my son and he is married to that southern cutie up front and they have three of the most beautiful kids (my grandkids) on the planet. He's the heart and soul of this band. Steve

Hey Steve, I was thinking about this picture all night, imagining how it could be better. The drummer looks like he's not part of the group. It looks like the camera is sitting on the counter. Here's what I'd like to see - position the camera maybe on a tripod to the left. You want to see a bit more of the "band" area, and less of behind the bar, but the building is interesting and I want to see some of what is already there in the background, so moving the camera to the left and working on the angle would give you that view. It would also open up an area a bit more for all of the band to be together.
Next, there's not much excitement happening in the picture. three guys are focusing on the drummer (talking??). I would think it would be better to move the drummer to the band side, and have each person focusing on something different- one could be lifting a mug of coffee, two could be chatting, one looking somewhere else. I like how your daughter-in-law has her eyes off to one side, but here's what I'd like to see. Have her turn her head to the side, then move her eyes to look straight at the camera with a sort of flirty smile. The rest of the band members are interactive - and she's toying with the viewer - the receptive one. Waddya think?

Tom;
The current shot was set up in hurry (in between paying diner customers)just to get a feel for the potential. I think you're suggestion for the next shot is right on the money. Thanks for taking the time to think about this.
Steve
