First off, I'd like to say hello to everyone. First timer here. I am a lover of the drums and wanted to get insight from you guys who admire them as well. First of all, what's the best drum set to get? Second, just for my curiosity, who is everyone's favorite drummer? Looking for some inspiration here people! lol. I run a blog and put out who my favorite drummer ever is today. Don't kill me for it! I want to see what you guys think. http://artistwarehouse.blogspot.com/Thanks! Welcome,
There is no "best" beginning drum kit. I usually recommend getting a used kit, try it out, if it sounds good to you and you can afford it, buy it. If you end up being a drummer for life, chances are you'll end up having three or four kits at least before it's over.
Same thing with favorite drummers. There is no "best," and your taste is your taste, no one can change your mind but you.
Welcome, hang around, post some more, and let us know what you get.
Mike
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

The best beginning drum set is the practice pad and sticks. In order to learn how to play drums efficiently, you need to know sticking, which are referred to as drum rudiments. If you must have a set of trap drums or kit, then I agree with Mike. Get a used kit for around $400. The drum quality becomes more important at an advanced stage, not in the beginning.
Also, take drum lessons and if the teacher does not use a metronome, find one that does. I can't stress how important this is! After all the drummer is the clock!
As far as favorite drummer, Dave Weckl is my fav drummer. Plus, he gives free drum lessons on youtube, along with many other greats like Joe Morello and Steve Gadd. Check it out and have fun.
