Lynn, part of her problem is she's had too much home cooking. We are going to get on diets over here. And, we are going to start an exercise program if it kills her. She needs to start walking 30 minutes a day.

Beth, I'm saying prayers for you, too. Yeah, hopefully she will only have to have medication for awhile.

Hey Ms. Tricia,
...just thought I'd check in, see how things have been. The 24th is a long time to wait for an EKG, can't help but wonder why they'd wait, most cradiologists have the equipment in their offices. Or they send one to the ER to have it done. ( here at least) Is that when she has an appt. with the cardiologist? (oh, I should mention, I've very nosey and having had a few EKG's in the past 4 years makes me even more nosey)

Not EKG, Caroline. Echocardiogram. She has an appointment with Internal Medicine for starters. She's never had the need for an Internal Medicine MD before now. Some of us country folk just like GP's.

Myself, I have an Internal Medicine MD. I've already told his partner (who is alot younger) that he will be inheriting my care when my MD retires. I asked him to make sure my son puts me in a good nursing home where he rounds. grin

Oh, duh! sorry, having a blond moment, thought those were over with. I knew that!

I have the whole shabang of MD's so it amazes me that things aren't caught sooner, even with a GP. My Gp is an Internal MD, then Cardiologist is right behind her office, the Rheum. works well with both and the Pleb. MD. is sweet as pie, shouldn't see him again, though. Newest is the gastro. he's nice, not sure what he really understands about the med interactions, but he'll do fine for now.

Hi Tricia -
Sorry to hear of your sister's heart troubles.. I wish her well.. thoughts & prayers.
I had my first cardiac 'episode'at 46 yrs old .. came out of the blue .. baffled the experts. I experienced a year of hell while trying to solve the problem ... Modern medicine does amazing things. I know I am lucky to be alive! .. blessed. Wishing the same good fortune for your sister.

I forgot about your having heart issues, Joann. Thanks for that. I'll let you know how the echo comes out. She's feeling fine since getting changed over to Lasix but she is still having some lower extremity/feet swelling even after taking the Lasix that's what has me concerned.

Well, I have both good and some not so good news. Lisa's heart murmur is not going to be an issue and her blood pressure is stable enough so that she will not have to take blood pressure medicine. My OTHER sister, Cindy, had a positive mammogram-could be nothing. Could be something. I told her that they are just killing me.:(

Place your faith where it needs to be
In the gentle hands of our diety
For His will is best for you and me
Be it here on earth or in eternity

The more you taste the bitterness of defeat, the sweeter final victory will be

May the flowers of love forever bloom in your garden of life

Tricia,

I've been off the site foralmost a month. Just now reading this. I will put Lisa in my prayers tonight. Today os the 25th, so I am guessing she has already had the test. If so, hope all came out okay.

As I think you know, Helen had a heart attack two and a half years ago and is doing fine, as far as her heart is concerned. Her whole family has heart trouble. She has 8 brothers and no sisters. All but two of her brothers have been on 100% disability with heart trouble for years. Three of her survivng brothers are in their 60s and one is 70. Being a nurse, you know how much good can be done by the patient just by being realistic and smart about their situation.

Lisa will be in our prayers tonight. Hope all is well with you, otherwise. All the best.

Alan

Hey thanks, Alan. She had her echo done yesterday. The results are still pending the MD interpretation. So far so good. Lisa called last night to say she is using the "Heart Smart" version of spices-Mrs. Dash in all 3 flavors.

P.S. You know you and Mrs. Helen are always in my prayers, too. smile

Well, that is good news about the heart murmur. I've had one for about 20 years, at least that's when it was first brought to my attention. Only in the past 4 years have I been having problems, probably not associated with that though. I'm currently taking a beta blocker though, that's all, but I don't have high bp, mine is low and coupled with "ischemic episodes" as the cardiologist calls them, and my pulse being low at any given time, I'm still getting by...fun!

Anyway...hopefully the murmur will just be a noise, stay that way, and she'll learn to take better care of herself from this scare. My mom, she never learns, she had a heart attack 4 years ago, has 5 stints and thinks she's super woman now, has doubled her work load even after they told her to slow down. Figures!

You are just having it lately though, aren't you...one sister having a heart scare, now a positive mam., we'll keep on praying and sending good vibes to you and your family...the pos. mam could just be fibrocystic masses, and turn out to be nothing to worry about. Here's hoping!

Caroline, thanks for the support! I mean that. As for your heart rate, a general rule of thumb is you should check your heart rate for 1 minute prior to taking any beta blocker. If your rate is 60 or less, hold your medication and notify your physician.

Tricia,
that may be a general rule, but mine stays between 45 and 60 daily, it does get into the 70's when i clean house, but that's as high as it gets. After the tilt table test the dr. said I have neurally mediated hypotension, near syncope, ischemic episodes, and bradycardia. The beta blocker is all they think they can do, other than a pace maker, which I'm opposed to at the moment.
