Sir Yannie will be called out for being a biased troll.

Now, in Joice song, it's ok to use a cliche to start the song off

"I was living for a moment"

But I cant use one cliche..the word "baby"

And if you look at the end of Joice Chorus...BABY did you see my fly"

I wrote Baby, I'm your man tonight

Yet her lyric was perfect, mine needs to be fixed.

Dude hasn't a clue, he's just trying to flex his JPF muscles.

All the regs think they all write great, everybody else is an intrusion.

Buy a clue fool.

Another biased troll.

Doesn't anybody have a sense of fair play?

People defend their work, especially when it's intentionally singled out by people who dont know what they think, let alone how to crit a song.

That dont mean they are on meds, just means they wont be mudded on.

All boards are the same, this is a joke the level of partiality.

Sigh

I have no problem with someone defending their choices in a song. But calling out Yann as a troll just because he has an opinion on your song seems short-sighted.

I looked at Yann's critique. It seemed it was rather respectful in its tone -- that was definitely not troll behaviour.

Well being respectful while nitting is usually a guise. Then people like you come along and say "his crit was respectful"

I can respectfully diss every song here, but I usually dont unless provoked.

It's quite clear that sir yannie was taking up for the cause of joice marie.

Joice Marie has provoked me many times, I think she thinks people have a chip on their shoulder, so she tries to knock it off. Perhaps sir Yannie read those posts and then made sure her said he lyric was great, which he faulted me for the same cliche word.

Hey if somebody tells everybody everything sucks, at least you could believe them.

Yannie has no credibility from here.

Ahh, who cares Football is here and My Yankees are going to be bringing in a world series in baseball soon.

Life is good, despite biased trolls like Yannie

Hi Jersey /Dom

Your Beef is Really with me because I called you out on YOUR board practices and That's okay with me really... I can live with that........

but in this Case -- MY song (and Calvin's) is a Blues song -- and an attempt at a genre that is pretty experimental for me -- BUT I do know that what fits in that genre might very well be cliche in other genres..........

Yann and I have a mutual respect developed from our JPF experiences - I respect his writing and Behaviors -- they are UP front and Honest

YOU on the other hand Have Only displayed SELFISH/and TROLL like acts

IE -- Posting and REmoving /changing Content
RE POSTING same songs on New threads... after edits - making it difficult for newcomers & regulars - to follow behaviors.

Changing MP3 content -- and not noting -- so comments about previous versions look lame

Not NOTING Original writers while publically posting an mp3

Board Hopping -- with these very same behaviors

and there's probably MOre -- this is Just what I have personally seen.......

and Now this 'kind of attack' on Yann ----and the jpf community at large....

I feel Very sorry for you - you seem to be a very Frustrated soul...
I DO HOPE that you find what you are looking for somewhere.

Best regards
joice marie

PS -- I just gave this thread a STAR --- So All can read along and make their own Call

Jersey,

When you post your work for review, you're going to get a mixed bag of replies. If you can't handle it, you shouldn’t do it.

If you think a critique is totally off base and/or prejudiced, why let it get under your skin? Often you'll get good, useable advice that more than makes up for the unjust reviews. Take the good, toss out the bad.

Cross-referencing your critiques with others has no constructive purpose – and posting the comparisons is uncouth.

Now get back to work…

John smile

JERSEY!,
I listened to some of your song I MUST HAVE BEEN BLIND or somethig like that. Not bad but not really new or great. I try to see if I can hear it being played on the Radio. It seems the song is somewhat dated. Anybody?

one of my beefs is with you, in this case it was Sir Yannie.

Be consistent, or dont crit at all.

if a cliche has no place in a song, it doesnt for anybody.

Yet his responses were different.

My board practices as you say, are none of your business. You dont own the board, and you dont own the web. I can go anywhere I feel like, whenever I feel like, for as long as I like.

It;s not your job to tell me I cant delete a post or pull a song down.

This is not a record collectors convention. Why there needs to be fully produced demos I dont know. I guess most people cant tell a songs quality unless it's spoon fed to them.

It makes no sense to me to post a full produced demo for cit, at that point I dont want to hear anything, unless it's a crit from rolling stone, they get paid to do that.

This is a testing ground, people fool themselves into believing a great song is a great production.

So I pull stuff down after I test it, and I wont let you tell me what I can keep posted and what not.

Wow, I need TYLENOL!

How can anyone feel so personally attacked for writing a song. If you don't agree, then move to the next crit. Really, it's not something to get all worked up over. Everyone has opinions, and not everyone will agree. I think being specific in what you need form a crit is helpful, as well as realizing that what I think doesn't make a hill of beans (oops, a cliche) in the grand scheme of your life. Your attitude about all of this will be what makes you or breaks you, believe me, I've gotten soem pretty harsh crits, here and other places, I don't feel like it's personal though. Just part of what you get when looking for the truth, as it pertains to others. Not everyone will like what you write, not everyone will like what I write, I'm good with that. People will make money, continuously off of what someone, somewhere, doesn't like.

my 2 cents!

No point in asking for a critique and then insulting everyone for giving honest respectful OPINIONS. If you cannot stand constructive criticism then don't post lyrics. I have read your lyrics and it is maybe best you do not see my full critique. You got off lightly with Yann. In light of your post here I would be more direct.
Your song has no meter, does not flow, makes little sense and on the odd occasion you do rhyme you use rhymes of convenience that bear no relation to the subject matter. You have a lot to learn both in writing lyrics and more important politeness.
PS. You posted this thread in the wrong forum.

yet Im better than you are.

wow your picture in front of a studio...u MUST know what you are doing.

Going coastal SUCKS. talk about dated? and How bout some originality? I dont think borrowed blues progressions makes you much of a writer.

Hey anybody can write a 1-4-5 tune

you have alot to learn about writing.

im a better writer than you, I dont care what corny ass studio you got.

but your stance was pretty formidable, SOME might believe you dont speak out of your ass.

Funny how bad attitudes always end up making me not even care. I only have so many breaths in this life. good luck with your beef, they say too much of it's bad for the heart.

When one puts a song up for crit, they trust that other board members will be consistent and fair.

He wasnt, so he got called out.

Ok, Jersey,

now my turn. Be happy cuz this is the last thing you'll ever hear from me.

I wrote (to you): I think some of your lines are good, but not all of them (1 "good" / 1 "bad") . I never talked about music or production.

I wrote (to Joice): I think your lyrics are great, but I'm not impressed with the music (1 "good" / 1 "bad").

Where do you see I'm biased?

Re the cliché: I never said the WORD "baby" was a cliché, I wrote that I thought your whole LINE (with, incidentally, "baby" in it) was a bit cliché.

Anyway, what's more important, when I crit, I always try to find some "good" when I got "bad" to report. That's for bias.

Now re my state of mind when choosing your song to comment on: I saw you had no replies and I know how it can be frustrating to wait for someone to give you an assessment. So I'd tell myself, let's hear this one in priority. Yes, I DID listen to the mp3 file before posting, and my crit is ALSO based on that experience.

Now you're right, I'm biased and dishonest. I wrote my post keeping in mind that we ALL have a lot to learn and that we ALWAYS should state the positive, because the aim is to help someone improve, not hurt their feelings (in which I obviously haven't succeeded).

Now let me be fully honest with you: if it's a pat on your back you're looking for on this forum, I'm giving it to you. Now what? Is your song any better or worse? Are you happier? My fully honest opinion: your song is less than average as it is (lyrics, music and performance; I'm not talking about production).

PS: why are you insulting when talking with fellow songwriters?

You were biased.

The first thing I look for when being critiqued is how that same person critiques others.

often, not always, they will say the complete opposite in somebody elses song. Sometimes people let the production of a song lead them to believe a song is better, even if it has the same cliche they faulted in another song.

Being you seem to be showing some remorse, Im willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and say your biasedness wasnt intentional.

Sometimes people dont like the genre and are more apt to pick on a song that is different than their comfort zone.

But that doesnt change much when you open up a crit with comments that you didnt think through.

Now my song can only get bad reviews on here. not that it matters, but when im trying to get unbiased crits for songs I might go and record again, with bonafide engineers and musicians to help me, I cant now get an honest gauge on it.

Nothing anyone says now will matter cause of your starting the negative vibe

Whereas, you wrote a love letter to the other song which had the same cliche in it.

Be consistent and fair. Crits are great, but make them mean something.

Jersey,

ok, I said it was gonna be the last one, but you already know I'm not consistent, LOL.

You didn't understand my comments and you didn't understand my last post. Never mind. I already said you could improve your writing, I'm not going to say you could improve your reading as well. Who knows? You could think I've launched a rocket on you or something. Time for vacation, man! Relax and enjoy, life is good!

Nite, you've got such a potty mouth!

This has gone way too far, not every writer has the same goals. What is a good crit for one, is fluff for another, what's taken as too harsh is helping someone else, what pisses one off wouldn't even catch the eye of someone who is really trying to improve. I though about reading them, just to see what all the fuss is about, but honestly, I'm bored...moving on.

Why do you feel like you have to defend your work? I mean, I can understand there would be times when you want to explain it but why would you want to defend it? A song is a piece of art - some people are gonna like it, some are going to hate it, and most aren't going to care.

We're just peers here offering suggestions. If they resonate with you, it leads you to improve the song. If they don't resonate you, you have the right as an artist to ignore them.

In either case, someone cared enough to listen and offer their opinions and/or suggestions. Civilty dictates that you should thank them - not call their character into question.

Just my opinion, of course......

People defend their work cause of a little thing called human nature. If you didnt think it was worth anything, you wouldnt create it.

and also people from Joisey don't like to be shat on.

Well that's odd, in your song LOST WITHOUT YOU, which if that titled doesnt reek originality, I dont know what does,
but overlooking that for a moment, dont you have pitch correction in this multi-faceted, award winning studio?

Whoever is singing that is out of tune on just about every line. Not to mention the fake blues styling where he sounds like grouch from sesame street.

Not very many positives to pull out of this thread. However, I will exam my critiquing style and see if I can't do any better. I am an engineer by training, so I tend to look for problems first. Not sure if I can change that, but we will see.

I am one of those that is affected by "production". Bad recordings make it hard for me to judge the song. No way around that for me. However, simple guitar/vocals are fine as well as simple recordings.

Anyway, back to my regularly scheduled day.

Excuse me, first of all, nobody was talking to you in here, you choose to get involved, i didnt go looking for you.

secondly, my anonymity has nothing to do with it, you ATTACKED MY SONG, remember?

I said nothing to you or about your music until you berrated mine.

And all of this is verifiable simply by looking at the posts.

Jersey,

So someone says something that you perceive as negative, and you then read other critiques by this someone to see if they are consistent?

You are free to spend your time as you wish.

If it is "consistency" that you value over all else, may I suggest that you immerse yourself in the world of machines and computers, and that you keep contact with human beings to a minimum? You are bound to be disappointed by...ahem...human nature...the same human nature that makes you want to create something, allows for inconsistency in behavior between different people...I mean, I don't know you...I'd rather be on a lifeboat with Big Jim or Niteshift or Yann, than you...Why? Human nature...don't know you...don't trust you...

Most of us will not live up to your high standards of conduct. You are obviously perfect, so feel free to caste your stones at all of us, since disagreeing with you seems to automatically make us "trolls."

I would like you to consider that Yann was indeed consistent. Word usage is contextual. The same word that is right for an African Juju piece may be completely wrong for an Appalachian bluegrass. You may stand here and whine and kick like a four year old all you want, but your argument overlooks this important truth. Language is slippery. Opinions, even more so.

So, okay, your feelings got hurt. When my feelings get hurt, my initial instinct is to feel "anger" too...you will be missing out on a great resource for becoming a better writer if you dismiss us as being mostly trolls. We are just human, like you. Really. What's more, I bet you most of us will forgive your behavior, if you actually try to be part of us, instead of flailing against us.

Mike

All I have to say, is that when I post my lyrics up here, is because I want folks on here to view my work and I want all views on how different people see my work..and I take the suggestions and move on..that's all it is, is suggestions..don't mean your work is good or bad, just how different folks see it..and I have had alot of good/bad feedback, but it has made my songs better and I appreciate all feedback and want folks to continue to view my work....if you don't like what someone said, just let it go and move on...doesn't mean it's a bad song...just different views...and if you don't like what is being said, then don't post it......it's simple, then you won't get back feedback....and nightshift...I love the potty...glyn

Nobody seems to be getting this.

The responses, at least from the civil minded ones are all "if you dont like what someone says...etc"

But thats not what this is about, what its about is partiality amongst board members.

I dont want to see one song where a crit says this is too cliche, and in another one right below it says THE LYRIC IS PERFECT.

You are the one being inconsistent. "Human nature" is okay when it comes to you defending your work, but the same "human nature" that may make me partial to one person's song or another, is NOT okay. Even if Yann was being partial, it sounds like you are the Lord and Master of how and when Human Nature makes something okay...like defending your lyric to the death, but not allowing that this same Human Nature may make human beings partial.

Yann wasn't even being partial, though. What you can't seem to understand is that the same word that is RIGHT in one context, can be WRONG in another. You have not addressed this, because you know it is true.

My feelings are not hurt, what is hurt is my songs chances of being evaluated unbiasedly.

Lol ud rather be on a lifeboat with Big Jim or Yann lolllllll

Not a family memeber, not a close fried, but some songwriter on the internet. lolll, and Im the one who needs to be with computers and not people...lol arent these people on your computer and not living nearby?

Well people do get stuck on lifeboats with internet people all the time, so maybe you have schooled me there.

blind faith will get you killed, and dumb asses will do it faster.

Now im off to find a internet person to sit in a fox hole with. hopefully she has big knobs, you know something I can hold on to in case of nuclear catastrophe bite

In the case of defending yourself, your music, your home, your family, your kids, human nature is acceptable

When it comes to treating different people differently or unequally, then human nature is destructive.

We have the power to know the difference and to behave in a fair manner.

Almost had a good argument there though.

LOLOL....

and you think Yann did this, by his review?

laugh

You're funny, and you are emotionally a twelve year old who needs to grow up, pal.

You are the only one who has hurt your chances of his song being evaluating without bias, because of your childish display. This is NOT my opinion. This is a fact.

hey,

I haven't ATTACKED YOU, I've COMMENTED on your SONG.
Plus you don't understand half of what is said here, I'm not surprised you chose to interpret my words in a WRONG way.

You obviously don't know what it is to have one of your songs reduced to nothing by an unscrupulous person, if you think I've been unfair to you.

If you want to do something in this business - that is as most of the people here you've chosen to verbally abuse - you' better develop a thicker skin pretty soon.

I was wondering, when I said that "baby" - which I didn't say, everyone can read the post - was maybe to be put into question, you deemed it a personal attack. So who's the "baby" now? Your song or its writer?

Have a great day. I humbly thank you for providing me the opportunity to train my patience.

JERSEY,
I have been writing songs since the late 50's. In all that time I have never asked or sought a critique. When I get a song ready to pitch and an opportunity prsents itself I submit.

You can have 3 different people critique a song and get three different opinions. Rejection is a fact of life and you just have to live with it. The most sucessful writers get songs passed on all the time. Rather than continue this bickering just keep writing and working on your songs. You never know when that breakthru will happen.
