Surprise - I'm back after many, many months away. This song that I am posting is the first new tune I have written since I mysteriously disappeared from the forum. It just seems that there were too many other things going on and I lost the music for awhile. This song is one of my rare adventures into 3/4 time land. An alternate name for this might very well be "Everyone's Waltz" . I had the guitar part for quite sometime and could not find any words. A few mornings ago, while I lay in that dreamy state between waking and sleep, words started to flow into my brain and as I came to full consciousness I ran to the computer and wrote down the first verse and chorus. At that point I had something to work with and finished off the rest of the lyrics. I see many of my old friends here are still around and writing - that sure is good to see. And I see lots of names that I don't recognize and hope to get to know. It is going to take me some time to catch up on listening and commenting on all the current songs; but I intend to. The new song is at: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=473345&songID=8009911Everyone Everyone's looking for a guiding star And a ship to take them home; Everyone's looking for that special lover - Someone to make them whole. Everyone needs a place to go To lie down under the moon; Everyone needs their own song to sing; Everyone needs their own tune. Chorus Some folks like making love, Some folks like making hate; Everyone's looking to catch that train, Hoping they don't arrive too late. Everyone's looking for a mountain stream - For a cool and crystal drink; Everyone is in the same boat, Hoping that it won't sink. Everyone needs everyone else To lend them a helping hand; No one can make it on their own To that distant Promised Land. Chorus Some folks like making love, Some folks like making hate; Everyone's looking to catch that train, Hoping they don't arrive too late... I hope we don't arrive to late. Clint

Hey Clint! Gwen was just asking after you the other day. I told her you'd turn up one of these days Great to see you back. What a beautiful tune - I can see why you sat on it for awhile waiting for it to tell you what it was about. The melody here has a timeless feel, the guitar sounds great (as usual) and the lyric is filled with truth. Love it! Scott

Hi Clint,
Nice work! Really classical tone on that guitar, and you got almost an medieval feel for this song.
Glad to hear the music is back in your life!

Hi Scott,
Do say "Hi" to Gwen for me. Have you guys made any rock climbing trips lately?
I like that: "waiting for it to tell you what it was about" - that really captures what it felt like. Thanks for the kind words. I hope I have the creative juices flowing again and they don't dry up!

Hi Clint !
Sure is nice to see you post. Great song -- I think that you chose the right title. The performance is golden. You've taken this classic melodic feeling and woven a very contemporary and timeless message along its back... I think that it will stretch far into the future for you. True craftsmanship. jm

Clint,
Glad you are back. I've missed your train songs. Your guitar sounds beautiful on this. I like the melody too. It sounds very old and folky. I love the lyric and chorus to this. Very universal and true.

Glad to hear the music is back in your life! Thanks, Songcabinet. Yes, I also thought it had a bit of an old English or medieval sound - I think that was John Renbourn's influence. Clint

It's good to be back and to see that you are still around offering your expertise to folks and helping them out. Thanks for taking a listen to my "comeback" song. Clint

Kevin Thanks, Kevin. I seem to be getting closer to getting the sound I want from the recording of the guitars. Clint

Hey there Clint,
It sure is nice to "hear" you're back. I've been listening to a lot of work tonight (which I have yet to post on I'm afraid!), but I'm so impressed by the cross-section of topics -- yours being no exception.
Lyrically, I think you make an eloquent case without sounding preachy...and I just love the feel of the musication. It reminds me somehow of Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" ...a bit haunting!
For some reason, these two lines jumped out at me the most:
Everyone needs a place to go To lie down under the moon;
It seems like such a peaceful and reasonable notion....
Anyway, welcome back...and don't stay away so long!!
Take care, Beth

Clint,
It's really great to have you back posting and reviewing. You and your talent have been missed.
This is a wonderful song! Sounds like a recipe for a great way to live life. And your guitars...wow...they sound terrific! Love the crisp tone. What kind of guitars are you using? Wouldn't be a D-28, would it?
What a great way to make your return. I thoroughy enjoyed this, Clint. All the best.
Alan

Hi Joice, Thanks for the kind words. It is good to be back for sure. Yeah, I don't see how the title could have really been anything else since I mention "Everyone" a gazillion times .

Wendy, There was just a passing mention of a train in this one - I doubt that it could be considered a train song though for submission to John Newbraugh. Yeah, most of my songs sound folky. Thanks for the listen! Clint

Hey, Bob my buddy, good to see you are still around here! I hope everything is going much better for you these days. I can't believe it has been almost a year since I was active here. A lot of stuff happens in a year.
I'm glad you liked the song. I hope I can continue to come up with ideas for songs - each one always feels like my last.
I hope to hear something from you soon as well!
Clint

Thanks, Beth. The lines you mentioned just popped into my head and I liked how well they expressed, for me, the need to occasionally get away from all the hustle and bustle and contemplate nature.

Al, thanks for you kind review. My guitar is a "custom" Martin made specifically for "Musicians Friend." It is a basically a D-18 with a solid rosewood body instead of mahogany. I have had it for about 4 1/2 years and it continues to mellow and sound better all the time to me.
Thanks for the welcome back!

Hello Clint, Nice to see you back my friend. That Martin does sound better and better. I am going to have to get one, they sound too good. My luck I'll make up my mind to buy one and I'll come home with a Gibson and still have Martin envy. Then I'm broke for a bunch of more years. You sound well, Tom
