Hi JM & Calvin, This would be good on a kid's show, and penguins are all the rage, don't you know, doo wop doo! "Down the hill What a thrill Watch out for Mr. tree" There might not be too many of those in the Arctic though! Ricki

Goodness, How did this slip down so fast? It's too charming to let "fall thru the cracks" (sort of an ice joke, pretty lame)... Anyway, this has such a sweet Pixar animation feel to it. Could totally see it in the "Happy Feet" sequel, which apparently is ready to start digital production in Sydney. Do I hear the words ROAD TRIP, anyone? Story-wise, I still marvel at your capacity for brevity. But this also has a child-like feel to it, so I think it's especially appropriate. Musically, I do feel the vocal might be a bit too strong for the sweet subject matter, especially right at the outset. Personally, I prefer the levels you use when you go into your higher register Joice, which are a bit more gentle. Harmonies are cool as always, but I wonder if you might have been able to have a little more fun with the doo wops? That said, there are so many cute/innocent lines, but for some reason these two sections really stood out for me.... Down the hill What a thrill Watch out for Mr. tree I'll meet you for hot cocoa In the igloo when we're through And HEY I didn't know penguins lived in igloos! Have either of you ever seen the kids' program "Pingu"? It's this AWESOME Swiss claymation show about a family of penguins who live in the South Pole. It's hilarious, because they speak sort of this Russiany-type language, but you know exactly what's going on because of their actions, expressions, etc. Here's a link, you gotta check 'em out ("Ice Skating" and "Incubating" are two funny ones...). http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=pingu&FORM=VDREBut I digress as usual. So thanks again for sharing this very cool treat on a hot summer night! Ciao for now, Beth EDIT: I was just listening to one of the Pingu episodes, and I'm now wondering, maybe in fact they're speaking SWISS! Donna, can you help me out here? That's in the same general area, no?

Hi Joice and Calvin,
I love the mostly minor feel and the "doo doo wop" chorus.
The musical composition, as a thing in itself, is very beautiful, very pastoral.
The lyric is classic "you" with couplets like "Land of wonder, icey thunder/Sliding by two by two" crafty yet full of heart.
I like this a lot; nice work, you two!
Mike

I must admit, this is my 1st penguin song. Loved it. I think kids would too.

I guess coming up with a song like this every once in a blue moon is something I could imagine. Doing it as routinely as you two do though is beyond comprehension. If you could bottle whatever it is that leads you to these, I'd buy it... Still another wistful and charming song. Absolutely love the do wop do wop part... Agree with Beth that delivering the vocal a little more low key might suit this particular song a little better. I think this appeals to folks of all ages Scott

Hi Beth
Hey Thanks for all your good thoughts and Links.....I haven't gotten to viewing yet - but I will and maybe come back here on this reply... Are you Sure that you don't secretly do music in your closet or something?? You seem to have a real good ear for it... I appreciate your musical notes - and I can see the merit in doing another vocal pass at some point..... I'll keep listening for a while first though, 'cause there may be some other things that can improve too. - I have to listen a Lot.
Best regards jm

Are you Sure that you don't secretly do music in your closet or something??
Hi JM, I'm afraid there's simply too much in my closet to find room for playing music !! BTW, got the kids watching some of the "Pingu" episodes (only a fraction of those on the link ever showed up on TV). We are such an easy family to amuse.... Anyway, thanks for the generous hypothesis... Ciao for now, Beth

Yes,
I needed a fun happy listen, and I knew I could count on you two with your wonderful unique imaginations. I enjoyed the bongo beat and really like the mesh of both your vocals.
Thanks to you both for letting us hear your wonderful creative songs,
Letha

Hi Mike
Thanks -- It pleases me to know that you like this a lot -- pastoral is a good descriptor. It's a fun one --- actually takes a fair amount of energy to sing right through with the doo wops --- sometimes I forget that I'm trying to build a lIve repetoire !
sorry for the delay in responses ... Cheers ! jm

Ya know, I was sitting around yesterday after doing the rehab excercises on my hand and thought "Dang, wghere are all the penguin songs? It's been quite a while since I've heard one." Well, lo and behold!
Most of what I've been thinking has already been said. I, too, like the same passages that lady Beth liked. And the Doo-Wop chorus is perfect! Super job. And thanks for assuaging my penguin defecit.
Alan
