At John's suggestion, here is the performance schedule for Bill's tribute concert on Saturday June 6. There is a yoga demonstration from 9:30 - 10:45 AM and we'll start promptly at 11 with the music.
Figure about 35-40 minute sets, which will leave time in between for Bill videos
Stu was the only one requesting a specific time, so I just filled in the rest. I'm taking the 3PM spot as a lead in to the Polish Heritage Dancers, which I also work with.
For those unfamiliar, the Miller Bandshell is located in Niawanda Park next to Tonawanda City Hall on Niagara Street. We will have parking reserved behind the bandshell. The best point of entry would be the entrance across from Mississippi Mudd's.
I'll e-mail each of you with my cell phone number in case anything comes up on the day of the event.
SCHEDULE:
11AM RICK HEENAN 12PM STU SHAPIRO 1PM DALE CAMPBELL 2PM JOHN KLOBERDANZ PAUL SCHMID 3PM MATT SUROWIEC

Matt-
I'm looking foward to a beautiful sunny day and playing with John "Kay" a bit. I would like perhaps 6 minutes for my own ditty to Bill. Thanks

Hey Paul, sorry I haven't been in touch.
It's up to you when you do your solo performance, either at the begining, the end, or anytime in the middle of our set.
And thanks for the promotion, but I am NOT a former member of Steppenwolf!

Per Steppenwolf.com:
"He was born Joachim Fritz Krauledat in 1944 in the section of Germany then known as East Prussia."
OMGasp! And I thought John David Kloberdanz was a mouthful!

Looks great, however 2 corrections are needed:
1. the spelling of NEUBAUER
2. The Polish Heritage Dancers are not part of the tribute
Also, maybe we should put a link to Bill's website so people can see what he was all about, and maybe add Bill's name to the title

As a follow up - what is everybody planning for their set? We should compare songs so we don't have any duplications.
Anybody attempting slack key guitar? Are we all wearing Hawaiian shirts as well?
I'm gonna attempt "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" in slack key. I'm also going to do a few Hawaiian numbers like "Tiny Bubbles/Pearly Shells". If I can find a full version of Bill's "Heather Houlihan" parody, that'd be a fun song to do.

We should have a contest to see who shows up with the ugliest hawaiian shirt. I could be a contender...

Your ideas sound great Rick.
It's D Day, so I am doing my "Variarions on America". I'm also doing a short original composition called "Runaway".
(I fixed the typo Matt)

Unless someone is going to attempt a John Kloberdanz cover song (and why someone would I have no idea!) there won't be any issue with the songs Paul and I doing being duplicates!

Yes, we DID hear you play at the church on Church Street, but that don't make it a cover song!

We should have a contest to see who shows up with the ugliest hawaiian shirt. I could be a contender... Hey Rick- I just saw a guy on Colvin cutting his grass. He was bare chested and was covered from fingertip to fingertip, and from neck to belt line (at least) with the UGlIEST black and red tatoos you could imagine. Do you want me to go back and see if he plays guitar?? He wouldn't NEED a shirt for your competition! Paul

Hi everyone! Two things here:
First off, I wanted to give this a bump, the show is this Saturday!
Second, we have a late add, "The Mountain Movers", a band from Bill's church, is going to lead off the show at 11:00. Figure that everyone will just get a few fewer minutes to perform.
Hopefully it will be a nice day, and we can all pay tribute to our memories of Bill under an Hawaiian-like sun!

The tribute to Bill, and the Tonawanda Folk Festival, got a nice mention in Sunday's Buffalo News, a crude scan can be found at: http://www.johnkloberdanz.com/tff.html

I should know better, the last ugly shirt contest we had, a guy showed up in a coconut bra and a grass skirt. No ugly shirt stood a chance...

Nice job Matt!
ARTS: Folk festival, craft show take over Niawanda Park this weekend
By Paul Lane E-mail Paul The Tonawanda News In its fifth go-round this weekend, the Tonawanda Folk Festival will take another step toward the ultimate vision its founder had for it.
But before marching forward, a couple steps back will be made to honor one of the festival’s most ardent supporters.
Festival founder Matt Surowiec has organized this weekend’s event as a tribute to Bill Neubauer, a frequent festival performer who specialized in the “slack key guitar” method used in Hawaiian music; he passed away Nov. 23. Also a performer at the Buffalo Niagara Guitar Festival, Neubauer was known for this distinctive sound.
“It’s a way of tuning the guitar. It ends up being an open-tuned guitar, lush and mellow in sound,” he said. “Bill went to Hawaii to study in that method.”
This weekend’s festival will feature audio and video recordings of Neubauer interspersed amongst the many live events, including a Celtic dance group, African drum group and yoga demonstrations. And then, of course, there’s actual folk music, with performers such as Joe Childs and Erin Sydney Welsh playing in styles from around the globe.
“We’re trying to bring more of the folk element into it, not just the U.S. style,” Surowiec said.
The festival celebrates its fifth anniversary this weekend, which will also be the third anniversary of the folk festival running in conjunction with the Weekend on the Niagara Craft Show. About 40 vendors will be on hand throughout Niawanda Park on Saturday and Sunday.
The craft show is in its 12th year overall and its third under the auspices of the City of Tonawanda Recreation Department.
“Another agency ... used to run the event, but they disbanded,” rec department employee Amanda Dragoo said. “We wanted to continue the event, so we took it on ourselves.”
Several crafter awards will be handed out Sunday, including prizes for best of show, best booth and people’s choice. Upwards of 3,000 people attended last year, a tally Dragoo attributes in part to the collaboration with the folk fest.
“It adds some great entertainment,” she said. “It brings in a lot of people.”
Surowiec agrees. His festival began in 2005 as a one-day event, and its sustained growth is thanks in part to the partnership.
“The crowd that comes in to look at arts and crafts gets to hear music, and the people listening to music get to see some great art,” he said. “It’s a perfect match.”
What would be more perfect, Surowiec said, would be to see national folk acts appear at the festival. That vision hasn’t come to fruition yet, but the impact of the music on audience members has become just what he wanted.
“When I think of folk music, I think of music that allows the audience to interact and become a part of the show,” he said. “It’s not my perfect dream, but it’s getting close to it.”
