Hey guys, I don't know if you've heard about this, but a fellow performer/impersonator from my home of Las Vegas, was wrongly jailed after going to Suriname (a South American country) to perform her "Toni Braxton" impersonation. The entire story can be found on www.freetrina.comYou can help by spreading the word. Go to the site to see how. If any of you live in Suriname, please let me know. There are many of us artists working hard to get her out of that jail. The promoter scammed Trina as well as the people and government of Suriname. It's a very strange and frustrating story. Let me know if you have any contacts that can possibly help. Thanks so much, Heidi

Can this situation be peacefully resolved without a military rescue operation? Or intervention?

Sam, There would not be military involvement in this sit. It's a matter of the Justice Dept. in Suriname and the outcome of her pending trial on May 7th.

terrible misjustice Heidi
sorry to see it.....but this kinda thing is usually handled by-in this case-Nevada Congressmen/Senators who ring up the STATE DEPT/JUSTICE DEPT and WHITE HOUSE....of all the people cited on her webpage-as a former backup singer for The Barbra Streisand-I would say thats the best connection to have right there..... cause when Babs calls- Barack himself answers.........

Man, this is just another case of "need to watch where you go." Same thing with those reporters that have been jailed in Iran. Everybody need to think very heavily when they travel anywhere. Always learn as much about where you go, and what you do.
One of the reasons I have always held out from trips oversees is the fact that I just don't know no body. My luck I'd get someone to hand me a package and the next thing I am Billy in Midnight Express.
If it ain't a Somali pirate coming at you, it is Pirate Bay, some corrupt judge or cop. And they are everywhere. Here in the states, at least I know the language. AT least for now.
Good luck to all,
MAB

One thing you can be sure of. There WON'T be any military intervention. If you are in these other countries from here on out, you are pretty much on your own.

It depends ENTIRELY on the perceived worth of the individual by our federal government.....And a simple journalist, actor, writer, singer, or entertainer just isn't.
A politician, high ranking officer, or whoever else that they value, it's different.
I would indeed like to see how this one unfolds...........but WITHOUT military intervention, how is it possible to convince these idiots to release her?
Other countries don't seem to repond very well to polite enquiries or requests by Americans..........at least not in the last 300 years, but they will awaken when we send covert operators on a rescue mission, just like the Somali pirates.
The same rules in our country do not apply there, so it ought to be a very interesting adventure.

Sam, It will all turn out fine in the end. Justice is not blind in Suriname, just slow.

Hi Heidi,
I am so very sorry to hear about your friend. Have you contacted Robin Read yet? She is the most connected woman I know...and you know her better than I do. This is a most frustrating and frightening situation. I will pray for justice and the SWIFT release of your friend.
Hugs, Bobbie

Hey Bobbie, Yes, Robin already went to the desk at the State Dept. for us. I also have a friend in Suriname who has been of great benefit.
Plus, we know the person who directed the real Toni Braxton's show here in Las Vegas and have asked him to see if he can get Toni to issue a statement.
It's all moving forward but it takes time.
Thanks for the prayers.
Heidi

I hope things are resolved soon and that there is no miscarriage of justice in this matter.
On a side note, my most recent song I wrote is coincidentally called Oh Trina. It has nothing to do with her case, I just picked the name up out of the ether, and here is a story about a real Trina.

Probably have the same intervention as the two reporters in Iran, the fifteen Americans in the Phillipines, or at least the ones that still have their heads, the mess in Darfur, bringing to justice the murderers of Daniel Perle, Nicholas Berg, or the thousands of people each year that go missing, kidnapped, tortured and murdered. Have to have political will to do that and when you are more worried about being liked, that kind of stuff just is too hard to come by.

The update is that Trina has a trial date for May 7th. The laws in Suriname are very different than those in the US. I've been in close communication with those helping on this situation. There is more attention being placed on it from the press and the BBC just did a story on it.
The actual bad guys are still free because of what I think is a law that someone actually has to fill out a complaint against them before the law can intervene. That is really interesting, isn't it? The promoter and his cohorts commit the crime, but Trina got a complaint filed against her, so she is the only one in jail!
I'll keep you posted as more data becomes available.

Ideas: There are many in here from many places. What if each of us sends a simple email to our state representatives? There is power in numbers and if there are enough emails to reps, it could get somewhere.
Has anyone put a link to the story in an email to Oprah or Streisand? Nothing should be out of the question and there isn't anything to lose by asking for assistance and contacts.
Has anyone contacted the national news magazine shows? What about at her local news level-sometimes the local story goes national from there.
Utube is international. Can we get a story with enough play that it gets to masses? Anyone good at creating that kind of hype?
There's a lot of talent here-god's gift. Can we do something with it here?
I will send the link forward to my state reps.

Thanks for the help, Monica. There are videos on Youtube and there is a bunch of press out there. The local news as well as the BBC and other larger news have all covered this story.
There has been much noise placed upon this situation from many areas such as the State Dept., US Embassy, Nev. Senator and Congresswoman, and more. I feel that the main problem has been a lack of ability on the part of the Suriname government to understand the concept of a celebrity impersonator and to view the evidence at hand in the proper light.
But, things are looking up. Thanks again.

I think the Suriname's government
ability to see the evidence in the proper light
would be greatly improved
if we sent Marines to put guns to their heads
and ask politely if we can have our singer back
and once we get her safely returned we can again forget that such a waste of space as that banana republic country even exists.....
that is of course-a last resort-after all the ballet dancers from the STATE Dept have had their chance......good luck to those pin striped twinkle-toed sprout eating diplomats....
hope your friend is soon returned Heidi

I was on the excite search engine today. This was a headline on the entertainment news section. Seems they have the promotor behind bars right now and our girl is still waiting trial. I was glad there was coverage. I was sad that probably no one was going to do anything about it as a result of reading it.

I actually read a piece about this in one of our national dailys today. I was a little miffed when I read the story, because it says that Trina allgedly tried to pass herself off as TB. It also says that she will be held in custody and the trial will be May 26th. There was no word about the promoter.
Whatever the truth is, it is a riduclous state of affairs and an unecessarlily scary one. I do hope they manage to sort this all out very soon.
