We got our demo back a couple of days ago on this one. Hope you enjoy it. Thanks Kevin http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandid=586630&Returning A Favor © 2009 Kevin Pearson/Jeffrey Socia Demo: Jeff Carson / Hunting Creek Music I said the car's got a little dent and I'm stuck out here in this field Dad, It wasn't much of an accident but you don't know how bad I feel First dirt road off highway two He said he'd be there right away ended up with mud all over his shoes As I thanked him I heard him say CHORUS I'm just returning a favor to my old man It's the kinda thing he used to do Just a promise I made to him Now it's my turn to follow through If anyone ever kept track I'd sure have plenty to give back Just returning a favor Never seemed he could do enough Always there with a helping hand Though he never really had much he gave as much as any man Now he needs just a little care and it's my turn to help him instead I ran a comb across his gray hair he turned to thank me and I said CHORUS I'm just returning a favor to my old man It's the kinda thing you used to do Just a promise I made to you Now it's my turn to follow through If anyone ever kept track I'd sure have plenty to give back Just returning a favor BRIDGE Life's not so hard to understand When my kids grow up some day I hope I hear them say.... CHORUS I'm just returning a favor to my old man It's the kinda thing he used to do Just a promise I made to him Now it's my turn to follow through If anyone ever kept track I'd sure have plenty to give back Just returning a favor

That turned out really nice you two...great team.
Only nit I'd have is in line 5 of the chorus. Phrasing seems off to me there, but I know that it is done, so I will shut up...LOL.
Nice vocals from Jeff Carson.....also I like the mandolin in this. Gives it the feel that it needs.
Good job...

Kevin and Jeff. Beautiful marriage of lyric and melody here. I really enjoyed listening to this. I love parent-child relationship kinds of songs. I've written a handful of 'em myself.
My father would do anything for his kids, even when we became adults. This one definitely made an emotional connection for me.
Nice job!

Hi Kevin and Jeff,
Jeff did a nice job!
I like this lyric from the beginning, Jeff, your music has some nice changes in there, and your melody knows when to "leap" and when to "duck"--it's a beautiful "composition"...
Great work, guys!

Nice warm song about that sweet natural reciprocal kind of thing between a father and son. Nice demo production too!! Thanks for sharing.
Best, Lynn

Love it. I like the phrasing in the chorus just fine.
Best of luck with this strong tune. I can see why you invested in the demo.
Peace,
Ian

Jan, Thanks again.
Greg, We appreciate your comments. I agree Jeff did great on the melody. Glad to hear the lyrics connected.
Mike, Thanks for listening and sticking with this one.
Lynn Thanks, good to hear that this song is doing what we tried to get it to do. If that makes sense...lol
Scott, Thanks for listening again, always good to hear from the Youngstown connection.
Ian, Thanks for listening. Really hit me with your comments We are hoping it was a good investment too.
Roy, Thanks. Always great to hear from you. Don't know if you remember exchanging a couple of PM's last year lamenting the life of a lyricst (ok I was doing the lamenting) but I appreciate your help and support. I wrote these lyrics last August and couldn't find them a home until now. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to collaborate with Jeff. He patched up some holes in the chorus and did a great job with the melody and work tape.
Jeff, Thank you very much for bringing Returning A Favor to life.
Best Wishes Kevin

Hi Kevin I remember this one as a lyric and I think it came out real well.... Only thing that I'd do different is to repeat the hook at the end of each chorus -- but I can hear it there with this demo - so I think other good ears would too. nice work jm

Hi Kevin, I haven't been around these parts in a long time but took time while peeking in to listen to this'n here of yours. As good as anything I've ever heard on the radio. Great lyric and nice melody as well. You should be proud of it, rightfully so.
