BTW...I had suggested this site to a friend a few days ago. So far, you're one of his favorite artists!

Hi Steve,
Nice one! I liked the theme you have crafted, and I think your arrangement was fine. I liked the way it stopped and meditated once in a while.
I think you should have ended it after 2.30, though, as I think the theme you introduced at the end took the coherence away, and the vst instrument you brought in after 2.30 sounded off.

Hi Magne,
Thanks for your comments. I know what you mean about the change at the end. I keep going back and forth about that myself. I composed this for a video game, and they seem to like it...for now.

Hi Steve I enjoyed the listen and atmosphere that you created - I did not get thrown by the change near the end either. Nice job. jm

Hi Joice,
Thank you for your kind words. Someone once told me; "if it sounds good, it is good". I like the change at the end, even if it may break most of the rules, musically. :/

Hi Steve,
I love simple melodies that grow right out of of the harmonies and background accompaniment.
This put me in a "Moments In Love" mood, esp. when that Lyle Mays-ish "Wichita Falls" patch kicked in late, re-enforcing those major seventh chords with a nice counter melody...
Very nice,
Mike

Hi Mike, Thank you sir! I suppose it would help if I knew exactly what I was playing. Maybe I should learn a thing or two about music theory...and why things work.

Hey Steve,
I like the composition. 2 major themes, and the 3rd introduced at the end was a real lift. Maybe introduce it earlier ? 2.20 seems a litle late. Really like that snare sample. Ya can even hear it rattle ! ( Oops, hope it's a sample LOL ).
My only thoughts would be to give it a bigger sound. More dynamics, especiallly bass, around the 160k could do with a boost, and maybe around 400k also. Thump the kick. Is it meant to be in mono ? I'm sure I played the hifi option, and it's all coming out in the centre. Broad panning will make a marked improvement.
Good luck with it.
cheers, niteshift

Hi Charles,
Thank you!
Now...when you say this should be in films...Are you talking major Hollywood blockbuster film, or...direct to video ($0.99 rental)? LOL!
I'd be, no make that- I WILL be, happy with either one!

Hi niteshift,
Thanks for your comments. I have read many of your posts here and have always found them to be a good read.
As far as the mix goes, I'm working on V2 and will certainly spend some time in the areas that you have suggested. The current mix is definitely stereo, with some moderate separation...not everything is dead center.
The snare is actually a combination of a sample and me smacking the crap out of my DW maple snare. Good ear!

Hi Steve,
Enjoyed listening. Was very soothing and peaceful, and yet powerful. Hard to describe the mix of feelings it evokes, but I could hear it in a soundtrack also.
Best of luck with it,
Letha

Hey Steve, I don't know that we've officially met yet...I'm a bit scattered these days I'm afraid!! Regardless, HELLO, and thanks for sharing such a moody piece. When I listened, I tried not to think about the hook...but the "film scene" I imagined it accompanying is one where the subject (I envision Robin Penn for some reason!!) is returning to a long-ago life -- including old lovers, old memories, old grudges, and as the music crescendos, she is flooded with the thoughts of the past and what will happen as a result of her return. So in that regard, it appears your hook is dead-on! Arrangement-wise, I loved the interplay of the different instruments. I'm no expect, but was that a harpsichord in there?? It was so pretty, and a nice surprise. All in all, a great first impression Steve! Keep up the good work! Take care, Beth

Wow...I must admit that your visual interpretation is much better than what I had in mind. More often than not, I have no idea what my inspiration was...until I listen back a few times. Weird, huh?!? I layered so many different voices, I don't even remember what they were. I don't believe I used a harpsichord patch, but rather a harp with a little bit of `sizzle' added. Thanks for listening and commenting. I look forward to chatting to/with you again sometime!
