Hi CCG. Do you think contests like Billboard Song Contest are better gauges of the quality of a song than Ourstage? I know we compete regularly on the Comedy genre at Ourstage and you've seen what goes on there. I've had honorable mentions on some novelty songs I entered in the "Pop" category in past Billboard contests and recently had a semifinal song in the UK Song contest. I think the reaction at the live performances(when you don't have a bunch of friends cheering you) are probably the best gauge. But I respect your talent and would be interested in your take on this.

I LOVE Ourstage, and what it stands for, which is us "indies." That being said, the voting there, as will every other fan voted contest on the web, has become corrupted. By who? Our fellow indies, of course. Everybody wants to win SO BADLY that they're opening multiple accounts to vote for themselves. The result? Hollow victories indeed. This weeks CCG press release is about my 1st top 10 placement on Ourstage.com. My song "I Feel You" was #1 for 21 days straight, BUT... As soon as the songs were narrowed down from 403 to only the TOP 20, I was continually "Voted Down" by my fellow songwriters, so that their songs would move up. ("Voting Down" is when you purposefully rank a good song as poorly as possible, in order to make your song appear better.) I had to enlist my friends and family to vote my song back up EVERY SINGLE DAY. My song made it to the TOP 10 FINALS in the last 2 days, but was "Voted Down" hourly back to the #10 spot, no matter how many folks I enlisted to vote for it. I smell a rat... several in fact. As for Billboard, this contest is legitimate. I've received emails from Mark Furnas, who is one of the directors. They judge songs individually, and, yes, scores are always based on the judges personal tastes. But... at least the judges don't have songs entered in the contest. *wink* That being said...
