Adoption Singer Adopts Two Children, Nominated for Two Awards Oklahoma "Adoption Songwriter", Becky Wright, Adopts Two Children from West Virginia, Up for Female Vocalist and Female Songwriter of the Year Tahlequah, OK, February 2, 2009: Becky Wright, award-winning singer/songwriter and recording artist from Oklahoma, never imagined having nine children. With a blended family of "his, mine, and ours" and only "ours" still at home, this songwriter mom and former music teacher has been traveling the country the last three years with her music career. The summer of 2008 took her, with husband and kids in tow, through a 14-state concert tour throughout the east and northeastern USA. The family took a detour to visit Washington, D.C., and made it as far as Maine, where Wright performed at a festival, along with Grammy-nominated Margaret Becker, a fellow Christian artist/songwriter. Becky Wright, formerly a school teacher, taught songwriting workshops and gave concerts in seven states. On the trek home, the family passed through West Virginia, where they stopped to visit Becky's young cousin, Jeffery (age 9). He lived with his grandmother and little (half) sister, Jacie, about an hour from Charleston, and was happy to meet and play with the Wright's youngest two children. Five months later in November, the Wright family received a phone call from West Virginia that would change their lives forever: Jeffery and Jacie's grandmother had passed away, and the children, legal orphans, needed an adoptive home. Now, more than ever, the "adoption songs" that Becky writes and records were hitting very close to home. Becky Wright is currently in the Top 10 for two music awards this year, "Female Vocalist of the Year" and "Female Songwriter of the Year", which she won in the 2008 Agape Fest . Fans may VOTE for Becky and other nominees at http://www.kingcountryagapefest.com/ , and winners will be announced at the Agape Fest Awards Show in Jefferson, TX on June 13th. Wright also won the title of "Duo of the Year" at the 2006 Texas-based Christian music festival, with the first "adoption song" she wrote, "Child of My Heart" (recorded with 3-time Male Vocalist of the Year, and 2004 CCMA New Artist of the Year, Tommy Brandt). The song began a whirlwind of performances nationwide, radio airplay worldwide (over 600 stations), and a frenzy of more songwriting. In 2006, Wright landed a record deal with North Carolina & Nashville-based Lamon Records, and recorded an inspirational Christian album, "No Denying". In August of 2008, Wright began recording a new upcoming album called "The Heart of Adoption", with renowned Nashville producer, Robert Jason, whose credits include Reba McEntire, Oak Ridge Boys, Disney, and others. Funding is still needed to complete the album, which will benefit adoption, foster parenting, and pro-life organizations across the USA. (Becky Wright is a Dept. of Artists in Christian Testimony, Intl. out of Brentwood, TN, a Non-Profit 501 C3. All gifts are tax-deductible.) The first single released to radio in Oct. 2008, "Call Me Loved", is sweeping radio airwaves across the USA and internationally, mostly on Christian radio. Released simultaneously with Christian Radio Weekly and Hope Street Music Group, the song highlights "the cry of the orphan, the foster child, the forgotten child... every child", and challenges listeners to consider the most fragile and deserving-- our children. Radio stations may contact Christian Radio Weekly to preview or download the song. Listen or download also at www.beckywrightsongs.com/music.htm. The Wright's wish to applaud the combined efforts of the Oklahoma SWIFT Adoption program, Heritage Family Services (Tulsa), and those of the State of West Virginia, through the ICPC (Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children) program, who are handling the case. Their goal is to give thousands of waiting children the permanent, "forever families" they need and deserve. Becky Wright is honored to perform every year for the State of Oklahoma's Adoption Celebration in Oklahoma City, and plans to bring her newly adopted children to the celebration with her in November. Dr. Howard Hendrick, Director of Oklahoma Dept. of Human Services and former OK State Senator, states: “Becky Wright’s music inspires passion for children – especially children who are placed in the hearts of the adoptive parents who choose them. Her confidence in God’s desire for a healthy family for all children is exciting.” Several adoption and concert events are planned on Becky's 2009 tour, including the Arizona Heart Gallery (Tucson), Act of Life (Houston), Agape Fest, ATTACH (San Antonio), and others.
