....Getting to open for a band such as The Kinks? (Ray Davies) as I guess they go by now. (Maybe I should know that first)!
If having Similar Brit sounds. Similar age appeal factor. And not having to take a huge cut of the door, why not us? Or any indie band for that matter who would qualify?
So how does one go about getting offered auditions for such an act? Or are they selected by the label? Are all the warm up bands on the same label? If so, then that's another topic.
Thanks, John

Depends on the situation. I opened for Dave Davies once, but I was selected by the venue.
If we're talking about going out on tour as the official opening act, that is covered by their management and booking people and getting in tight with them. Which also means they're going to ask if the band can draw a crowd and the opening band has to cover their costs.

Well, I suggest you make a Video of your shows, edit the best parts, make a DvD to promote yourself. If you are doing the same thing as a Band you are opening for, be able to taylor your show in a different direction for that show.

A couple of years ago Ray Davies was in Chicago and about to go on tour without the band. He asked around about local guitar players that might be available for the tour and a few people mentioned a guy I know named Mark Grzelak who has a band called the Javelinas and who as a soloist often played Kinks stuff. Mark was playing a Tuesday evening gig at a pub called O'Sullivan's I believe in Forest Park (our neighborhood) and Ray came in to listen to him. He asked Mark if he would be interested in going on tour as his guitar player, and Mark was thrilled at the prospect. He was in the process of getting ready for the road when he got a call from Ray's manager telling him that Ray was going into rehab and had canceled the tour. Mark was crushed. Oh well! At least he got the offer.

Well, there it is. You simply have Ray come and see you play, and then he asks you. Next question.

Hi John,
Front up at Asbury Park and say hi, invite him to a show and give him a cd. You have absolutely nothing to lose!
Most of the good supports I've had over the years came through someone in the chain knowing my music - the headline act, someone in their entourage, the venue or the promoter.
Probably the last one I did that would mean anything to you folks in the US was Sophie B Hawkins, and I knew the guy who owned the booking agency handling her AU tour.
It's all about networking!
