Last call for Grammyhol...hehe... My ballot is going in today - the best of luck to everyone here!! Brian, thanks for providing this forum, and a place for this great group of folks. And yes, I entered into the JPFolks competition as well - thank you for all the hard work you do for this group - you rock!! And everyone, just the spirit of camaraderie shown here has made this whole process worth while. Hugs, and good luck to us all! Cher PS Daniel - we got our ballots almost two weeks ago - definitely call the office! PPS Priscilla - it's too late for this year - the entry deadline was in late August or early September. I don't know what your release date of the CD was, but just check the rules over at grammy.com - they spell it all out clearly over there - better than my memory can do Cher

Actually Cher, I think non NARAS members can get nominated if they are sponsored by a member. I believe that Zak Morgan (who did eventually join NARAS later) was nominated as a non member initially by being sponsored by an active member. He went on to receive a Grammy nomination (and also won JPF Male Arist of the Year).

I will be voting for everyone that I can who has posted their info here or to me privately. I want to get my ballot out this week. Once again here is my info......Yeah, I know, I've already posted it, but it's like putting your contact info on your press kit. You can never put it in to many places. Good luck everyone! Field 4 Rock Category 21 Best Rock Album "Another Roll of The Dice" # 234 General Field Category 2 Album of the Year "Another Roll of The Dice" # 623 General Field Category 3 Song of the Year "Jesus Loves You, Everyone Else Thinks You're an A**hole". #332

Yep Brian - you're right - again, which is why any one who has questions about the Grammys needs to go to the Grammy site and not rely on my memory lol!! www.grammy.comThanks for the correction - I'll edit my earlier post Cher

Hi Pricilla: Albums have to be released between certain dates to be submitted for the GRAMMY... for instance, GRAMMY 2009 submissions must be released Oct 1, 2007 through Sept 30, 2008. Please don't be discouraged - make a new album for 2010! 1.) Each genre of music is in a “Field.” (Rock Field, Rap Field, Jazz Field, Folk Field, etc.) 2.) The Folk field then has Categories within their Fields; in our case, Traditional Folk, Contemporary Folk, Hawaiian, American Indian, Cajun/Zydeco, Bluegrass, etc. (the Bob Dylans, Allison Krauses, etc) 3.) To qualify: a. An album must have at least 75% playing time of the genre in which it is submitted; b. The album must be released from Oct 1 the year before to Sept 30 that year. c. an album must be in National Release by the Sept 30 deadline, which these days means iTunes, Amazon, CDBaby, etc. 4. You don't have to be a Recording Academy member to submit an album (although it's recommended.) You can join as an Associate Member as an indie record label, and submit your album that way. But only Voting Members can vote. 5. To join the Recording Academy, you must have played / produced / engineered at least six tracks that have been nationally released. At least last time I looked - Lisa

Hi Daniel:
Yes, you should have your ballot by now. Deadline to have it INTO THE NARAS OFFICE (not just postmarked) is Nov 5 at 5PM. Go get 'em!

Hi All, I know I'm jumping into this at a late stage, but hopefully not all the JPF NARAS voting members have sent in their ballots already. For anyone has hasn't voted yet, I hope you'll check out and consider voting for my CD "Billy Gorilly - Happy Birthday Gertie". It's entered in Field 18 (Children's), Category 77 (Children's Music Album), Entry # 046. I'd be happy to send any NARAS members a sample copy of the CD to check out before voting, but if that's gonna cut it too close to the deadline I hope you'll go to the CDBaby page and listen to the song samples ( http://cdbaby.com/cd/billygorilly2), especially track #'s 5, 8, 11, & 14. I'm definitely planning on supporting all the JPF members with music up for a Grammy. I hope you can do the same for me. Good luck to everyone in the running. No matter how it all turns out, it's sure a fun ride.

Yes Daniel! Nervous, excited, frustrated, thrilled - every extreme emotion that goes along with this - hands are sweatin'...can't sleep... I just hope voting members are taking the time to listen to the music of the entries and then voting. That's what it is all about I'm brand new to the Grammys. Stardust has won 6 national awards - but the voting process was soooooooo different for those awards than the Grammy process - for the other awards, we sent in a Stardust CD and a large panel of judges would listen for a few weeks, "test" the music out on families, and come back with their decisions. The Grammys is whole different ball of wax - a very interesting journey, indeed!! My ballot is on it's way! Good luck everyone!! DAniel did you call the office about your ballot??? Cher

HI EVERYONE! JUST GOT WORD FROM NARAS THAT "SOLICITING FOR VOTES" INCLUDES LISTING FIELD NUMBERS AND CATEGORIES. WE DID NOT KNOW THAT!!! SO JUST WANTED TO LET YOU ALL KNOW SO YOU DONT GET ANY WARNINGS FROM NARAS. YOU CAN USE PHRASES SUCH AS, "FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION...", YOU JUST CANT USE SPECIFICS. THANKS! SIENA www.MAKENAmusic.com

Siena,
Are OTHER people allowed to solicit for votes on the behalf of someone? I've heard many reports that record labels have presented ballot lineups to their employees on who they should vote for. If they aren't allowed to solicit for votes, it seems like that has violated that.

MAn this was a lot of work - going through this Grammy process was a great experience. The cool thing is I have connected with more musicians these past couple of weeks and been exposed to and introduced to all kinds of new music. It was pretty hectic - but all good. And now it is all in bigger hands, huh? Once again, best of luck everyone! Cher

What an amazing array of talent on this board! I'm happy to help in any way I can (and am grateful for the help in Category 78 - the only non-musical category on the board!) One other thing - and I'm telling you this because he won't -- two weeks ago our friend (and three-time Grammy winner) Daniel Ho was inducted into the Gallery Of Distinguished Achievement (think: Hall of Fame) for our (shared) alma mater, St. Louis School, in Honolulu, Hawai'i. It's a big deal, as the Gallery includes ex-governors of the State, ex-mayors of Honolulu, internationally recognized doctors, etc. Daniel was feted at a gala dinner and ceremony in a huge ballroom at the Sheraton Waikiki and, according my sources (I haven't spoken to Daniel about this yet) he apparently rawwwwwked out the house! So Obama's not the only news coming out of Hawai'i these days.

Hey Marina,
Do you have a direct link to the video?
Also, I can't believe you've been registered here for 7.5 years but only have 10 posts. You should stop in a bit more than once a year or so! = )
