Just read where the retail giant “Best Buy” is going to start selling name brand musical instruments catering to musicians and DJ’s.

Hopefully they will continue their high standards in both hiring and training of their employees.

I remember when you could go into a (name brand removed) record store and they'd have name brand guitars for sale in the back. You'd find them in the back right near the glass case that had all the bong paraphenalia.

I got my Guild D-25 in one of those stores back in 1978.

Iggy, they've been selling guitars and other musical instruments at one or two of the Best Buys here in the Twin Cities for almost a year now. Checked it out twice and wasn't very impressed with the choices of instruments or the prices they were asking for them. Might go over better in places that don't have access to a "Guitar Center" or other large music store.

I like going to Guitar Centers to play things and try out equipment and generally stonewall the stoner salespeople. Then I go to a mom-and-pop music store to buy.

Mark, when you have as bad a case of G.A.S (gear acquisition syndrome) as I have, you need to get the lowest price possible. That's why I'm doing a lot more buying on the internet these days.

I read an article that Best Buy is going to add large musician instrument sections to a few of their stores. One of these will be their store here in Lincoln, Nebraska. It should be interesting since Guitar Center also has a store here - rather surprising for a small place like Lincoln.

In the keyboarding and audio recording world, that's also referred to as Techno Lust.

I used to have techno lust. That's why I have 27 keyboards in my basement and tons of other gear. Then I went cold turkey on it for the last 10 years. But I was getting the urge to do something with music again and started looking at music gear catalogs and websites (one of which I helped create years ago) and I start feeling that pull again.. though there's actually less cool gear in the keyboard realm than there was 10 years ago. (I think they've run out of new ideas and there's far fewer companies making stuff).

Nord! That's all I have to say about keyboards That, and the fact that I was fortunate enough to see Edgar Winter perform about 8 years ago. His board was older than dirt but it sounded phenom. Must have weight a ton though, when he strapped it on and walked around the stage it nearly crippled him! haha

Mark I agree with you 100%, I'd rather pay my local mom&pop an extra $20 then see them close their doors. I see it too often here, being in a big city. I think it's better in the rural parts where there's not as much corporate interest.
