Hi Toast,
Very retro. Still living in the past, eh? Love your band of sound effect experts. Is that you on all the instruments?

Ricki Hi Lime, There is no past, only music. Yes I did the instruments. The hardest thing was to be all those horses and whooping Indians...so tired! Thanks Ricki!

Awesome! Were those bongoes at about 2:50? Scott Indeed. I recorded most of this yesterday while roofers pounded on the house, so I kept everything electric or digital, no mics. But today I DID take out a mic and played some bongos for the surf's up section. I've heard this mix but once, then I had to run to work...the bongos come in 3 times, so they're probably too soft in the mix. I still want to hear a man cursing mightily in Japanese...this song needs that. That and a werewolf. Thanks Scott! Oh...and cowbell. Needs more cowbell.

"I recorded most of this yesterday while roofers pounded on the house" lol, they probably were wondering, what the heck's going on.. Fun tune...

The windows were open and I was using speakers instead of headphones...none of them spoke English but I'd hear them cracking up once in a while. Gringo mucho loco. Thanks Louis

Mark, they're probably fine. I just noticed them when I did because that's probably when I began to focus on the different parts, as opposed to just appreciating the song as a whole. I'm trying to train myself to just listen to the song the first time through and then listen again for the details..... There is some company out there that regularly compiles songs for Halloween CDs. I wonder if this would be a good fit? After the cowbell is added, of course... Scott

Scott Truth is this was so much fun I wouldn't mind trying a few other things like this, staying instrumental and using style and sound effects to evoke a cinematic effect...with humor. The bongos DID need tweaking, and I needed to lose a bad motorcycle sound that didn't fit...a new version will be up sometime Sunday. Thanks!

I entered this in OurStage under Rock Instrumentals. If that doesn't fly I'll try it in Comedy the next month.

Oh this is cool stuff Mark.. you know I like this stuff.
Great all around. Also I suggest doing a mix without all the effects or very very little. Make one that way also, this may open up opportunities and shows the less humorous approach as well. Let the hum-our appeal stay in the title for that mix.
Great work!!!

It WAS fun. I have seriously been laughing a lot while making this one. My one regret is that I spent fruitless hours searching in vain for the sound of an angry Samurai warrior. Okay, maybe he'd be the joker in this particular deck...but I really want to hear him curse.

Great work!!! High praise indeed! Yes, I put the effects on their own separate tracks, so that version is a cinch. This was one that was written while I recorded...I knew it would be sort of surfy, but not what it would BE. After I had the drums and the rhythm guitars, I knew where it was going, and I gave it a working title of "Senor Vasquez". He's my daughter's Spanish teacher. But I think you're right...we'll stick with "Texas Surf Monsters".

LOLOL here's one called "monsters eating corpses"!!! I couldn't make this up if I tried, wish you could hear it. Shall I rip it into my PC and email you some tracks?

Yipee Mark, I feel like I'm watching a scarey movie, and also it reminded me, when I was little, going on the ghost train ride, at Luna Park, Sydney Australia. Memories. Excellent, love it. Talk about talented hah. Michele

Actually, I probably would have needed permission to use those anyway. However, I COULD make this stuff up--I came this close to having the song end with a roaring monster that chomps down on the end of the song, devours it into silence and munching sounds, then a burp, the end. But I fell in love with the long scream instead...

In fact, everything digital is crashing all around me...Cubase has gone wiggy won't play back anything, even upon reinstallation, and I can't reinstall my drum program at the moment due to all their protections...I'm at a standstill for now, and so frustrated I'm about ready to behave like one of those sound effects. But as far as the versions, this one is the same music, just a few more loony noises.

I am smiling in a crazy way I guess like the way a Texas surf monster might smile after sampling one of the local populace. I did a little burp and put my earphones down so satiated!
Will the movie be made in Italy by Sergio Leone?
Please say it will be!! Paul
