I re-activated this board so we can start posting info about the next JPF music awards. Stay tuned!

It looks like we'll be moving forward and start officially accepting entries to the awards. If you sent something previously, don't worry, it's automatically going to be included. I have a table full of CD's already.

wondering if there is going to be digital song submissions this time around..? for the song cat. of course albums are albums but for writers who have just one song they want to submit to .. country per se.

I am not sure about single song digital unless those are up on CD Baby which is where we'll likely get all the digital submissions from. It's possible we'll have an interface set up to accept them, but right now it wouldn't be possible. Time is flying by and we still have a lot of work to do before we can even start taking stuff from CD Baby... that's why I've been working around the clock. But we're still likely a month out.

I'm confused and not knowing really if i'm late to submit?

We haven't started officially accepting entries... (i.e. we haven't sent a note out to the world saying the thing has started) but JPF members are always welcome to send us stuff year round and we simply hang on to it until the next awards process starts, whenever that is each time. The thing has got so large and unruly we have to reinvent it each time and thus we have an unorthodox schedule. We're currently working on language for the announcement and dealing with tech issues for the digital submissions we'll get from CD Baby this year. But anyone can always send us stuff. I expect that once we announce to everyone via the newsletter, that in a couple weeks after that, CD Baby will send a note to their folks on entering from their side.

I sent a couple of months ago, I decided to send the cd rather than doing with cdbaby, but is there anyway to know if the cd was received... never got a notification back

I already did, I really hope it arrived safely, it was quite a while back, I enclosed a copy of Ancient Shadows album which has songs eligible from new age/singer songwriter/gothic and also a dvd to compete in the videos
if you can drop me a word, I guess you receive tons... but i'd be grateful just to resubmit if it got lost!

Brian, just FYI, I got an email from CD Baby back in May (?) about JPF. It's the reason I signed up and joined. It basically stated that if you were on CD Baby, you were automatically entered. That means, unfortunately, that many JPFers may enter twice - automatic via CD Baby and manually by sending you hard copies.

Perhaps you should make an announcement asking CD Baby members to refrain from sending additional submissions?

Actually only those CD Baby members who wanted to enter and join JPF (if they weren't already members) got entered. So the folks that did know who they are. We do have a few overlaps (mostly due to stuff being sent to us WAY back) but it's not a problem. We had 19K people take advantage of entry via CD Baby. Our deadline for other entries is August 31st for anything already released and then Dec 31st for anything released between August 31st, and December 31st, 2008. That way even the newest releases can be included since the next awards won't happen until 2010.

If you got a newsletter from us last month, you're a member and thus we have your music entered this year. (And after checking, I see that is in fact the case). So you're all set.

In case you see this before you mail another one, we do have your CD and a DVD here. I've had family stuff to deal with the last week and just had a chance to catch up on the mailed in entries.

I got yours via CD Baby.. I also got Jillians via a demo CDR, but not a final CD. And I thought you had something new coming out?

Hey Brian, unfortunately I have been so "bogged down" with paid projects that I haven't really had time to construct a full length original album for fun yet. I put that in quotes because I really enjoy doing things like music for licensing, pure club tunes, music for games, and so on, but the primary reason for those things is to pay the bills. I'm also working on several sample libraries for composers and producers, one of which is set to be released in a few weeks (virtual sitar, tabla, baya, tampura.)

However, I'm hoping in 2009 I can really get back to doing.. well, whatever I want, in full!

You can always send in songs versus album projects. Just dump them down on a CDR like you did for Jillian. Did her album ever come out as a finished release? If so, I don't have it.

Thanks for checking for me! Jill's album "Origins" did in fact have a physical release - it's being distributed by two brick-and-mortar specialty New Age distributors, as well as Amazon and her own website. Here's the link to the Amazon page for it, if you're curious;

Chances are Jillian sent a CDR because she was in between printing runs... she has been doing really well, working with both a radio promoter (who has sent hundreds of CDs out and gotten her airplay on over 60 terrestrial stations as well as internet/satellite), and a publicist (Ariel), plus the two physical distributors. All of these things required lots of CDs up front so there have been times where she's been short on the actual physical product, however the CDR she sent has all the same music on it. Just doesn't have the nice artwork.

As for anything I've released lately, isn't it too late for me to send anything else in? I do have a handful of tracks that I wouldn't mind submitting, if not!

Anything new can still be entered until the end of the year. Only old stuff was cut off in August. So if you have something new you (and everyone else) have until December 31st to get it to us. Our awards are for music release up to the end of 2008. If we don't force people to enter their older stuff earlier, we'd have to start the judging process in January instead of now and we'd never get done with it all. (It's going to be tough to get through it even with the head start before the summer).
