Hey Joe,
But if you came in with a big boombox, that would work, right? Then you could sneak a little old cassette in there, and we could at least listen ......
Cheers, Beth

That *is* a thought. Don't think I've got a big boombox. Maybe I can borrow one.

Probably a day late and a buck short for this challenge, but better late than never...Jan
Why Mama, Why (c) 2008 Janice Hopkins
I had all kinds of questions when I was small Always asked the one who'd hear them all She never tired of making me see That things were how they're supposed to be
I'd sit at her knee, we'd ponder it all together Asked when I'd figure it out...she said, Maybe never
Mama....Why is the sky so blue How can my dreams come true Why does the moon go away so soon I know that the stars shine bright But, why can't I see them each and every night How does the sun rise in the morning Showers come without a warning Why, Oh Why...Mama Why
She always thought awhile then set me at ease Said, There's no answers to some of these Sometimes the planets all line up gradually Then life opens doors as fate turns the key
I still need her guidance, though I'm older now Cause when she listens...I get my answers somehow
Mama....Why do I feel so blue Thought he'd make my dreams come true The honeymoon went away so soon I know that the stars shine bright But, why can't I see them tonight How will my sun rise in the morning This sorrow came without a warning Why, Oh Why....Mama Why
She said, Darlin' he doesn't have to be your everything Stand up tall, see what your own life brings The answers don't depend upon that wedding ring
Mama said, I know you're blue Thought he'd make your dreams come true The honeymoon goes away too soon I know that the stars shine bright But, you're not looking up tonight You are my sun rise in my morning Don't question why you had no warning Wish I knew Why, Oh Why...(spoken)..Don't cry

Hey Janice, I'm so glad I caught this one out of the corner of my eye....it's really very good. For some reason I thought it was going to be a humorous piece, but it is in fact very poignant. You've written a tender story...and the progression is conveyed quite well in your cleverly crafted choruses. There might be a couple of extra syllables in there, but I reckon that would be resolved with whatever music you might get for it. It does sound like a good candidate for musicating! Of course, as the mother of some incredibly inquisitive kiddos...I can appreciate this at another level as well. About a year ago now, my seven year old asked me "where does the sky touch the ground?" Naturally, I directed him to his dad ( )! Actually, just pointed off to the horizon, and said "over there". :/ So again, Janice, thanks for playing. No such thing as TOO LATE on these deals.... Ciao for now, Beth
