{WAS gonna just start a Thread askin' folks WHICH of this kinda Songs are Your Favorites? But then, between Clock Repairs I can Barely-See at the Moment (BIG case of Conjunctivitis) I got the Urge to pen a Song about MY Favorite Pair..& Did So. So...feel free to Crit the Song...OR just tell me about Your Favorite Eye-Misters..(In-between all the Ointment & Drops the VA Hospital gave me this AM..heh!) Big Red-Eyed Hugs, Stan}

I Like Songs that Stir My Blood
(About Those Things that aren't "Right-Enough")
Then..There's Songs to "Fall-in-Love"
(I Like Those Too...)
But of The Ones I Like The Most
"Love-&-Protest" Don't Come Close:
I Like Those Songs "That MIST..ME..UP!"

(CHORUS)
SONGS THAT MIST ME UP..Hit-Hard
'Cuz I Know "LIFE"..Is What's Inspired
The Authors..To..Write..Each...
SONGS THAT MIST ME UP..Rate HIGH
Even Though I Have to Cry
But SONGS THAT MIST ME UP...Still..Teach!

Favorite "MIST-ME-UP" Song of ALL Time:
"Southern Gothic Style", In Perfect Rhyme
Got its Author Grammy-Nominated in '69
(And..She SHOULDA Won..)
Bobby Gentry wrote that Hit "FANCY"
'Bout a Teenage Girl, Poor Family
& Reba made it My Favorite MIST-ME-UP...

(REPEAT CHORUS)

(BRIDGE)
Sometimes I have to Pull-Off, by the Side of The Road
All MISTED-UP by The Radio...

John Michael Montgomery's "The LITTLE GIRL"
Made a Huge Splash in the Music World
'Cuz It Implied "Miracles-STILL-Occur"
(No Matter-What...)
& I'm Inclined to Side-with-Him
Every Time I Hear..That Song Again
'Cuz I Still Learn from SONGS THAT MIST ME UP...

(REPEAT CHORUS)

(TAG)
Yeah, Those SONGS THAT MIST ME UP..STILL..Teach.

I love the idea... not sure "mist me up" would be the phrase I would use. #1.. if you were singing it, it might sound like "songs that mess me up".. lol

This reminds me of the song "I don't know why they say grown men don't cry".

I might try a more creative way of saying getting misty eyed...something less obvious.
Songs that make it hard to see the road..?

I know when I mist up while driving.. I get pissed off cus my eyes burn and I can't see the road.. it gets blurry, all over a song on the radio.

Maybe the guy has to pull over and pretend he's talking on his cell phone, but he's really trying to compose himself?

G'Mornin' Mz Kay-Lynn!

I'm still kinda "Attached" to this Hook..(It's just me, I guess..tho this'n felt like it was a Tribute to MY Favorite Writers of this kinda Song..& I was less-inclined to go for a Purely-Commercial-Write.)

DID incorporate your Fine Idea about Driving & Hearin' These Babies into a Sung Bridge Couplet that both makes the Hook "Easier-to-hear" & furthers The Storyline. (Major "THANKS!")

My third favorite "Mister-Upper" would be "Long Black Veil"..think I first heard it from The Kingston Trio...but Lefty's Version's the Original, and a Dandy! WOULDA included it, but this'n's already feelin' "Long"...

Thanks Again for Your Very Kind Visit & Sugs, M'LadyChum! Hope NsshCity's bein' kind to ya this year!

Big Hugs,
Ol' Red-Eyed Stan

G'Mornin' Brother Colin!

(I've allus Liked the Name "Colin"...it sounds SO Powerful...{Especially to a guy whose folks named him "Stanley", heh!}) Colin POWELL...that's the U.S.'s first Major "Colin"...& What a Guy!!!

While researchin' this lyric, I came across JMM's actual Lyrics for "The Little Girl"..WHICH I recommend for EVERY Songwriter to do. (Easy-to-do, just GOOGLE "The Little Girl".)

BECAUSE, sans music, OR singing..they are SO deceptively-simple.
They themselves are as-fragile as the little girl being sung-about. It's a very quiet & sad story/Happy-Ending.

"FANCY" on the other hand, is told by a 32-yr old woman "looking back" on her Mama's desperate choice to send her 18 year old daughter out to a fairly vicious world..with no other options in-sight..with a red dancin' dress & the words "Be kind to the gentlemen, Fancy, they'll be kind to you."

BOTH these "Tearjerkers" are songs of Survival..in the Worst of Conditions...by Folks far-less fortunate than we. And they're great "Grim Reminders" that we ARE "The Lucky Ones"...Beautifully-Crafted Examples of The Songwriter's Art.

So..How'bout mentioning a few of YOUR faves, too...(to show the gals YOUR "Sensitive Side"..heh!)

Thanks for Your Kind Visit, Amigo!
Big Guy-Hug
Stan

PS.: The Beatles' "ELEANOR RIGBY" is a UK Tune that makes my "Misty-Eye" List...that line "picks up the rice where a wedding has been" is SUCH a Killer!

I'll toss couple out that have done their damage to my makeup as I'm driving. (not sure of all the titles but I'll do my best)

Love, Me(Colin Ray sang this one)
Alyssa Lies (Jason Michael Carroll)
At This Moment(Billy Vera and the Beaters)
He Stopped Loving Her Today (George Jones)
Already There (Lonestar)
Amazed (Lonestar)
Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer (my grandmother loved this song and we'd all line up at the phone and call the radio station every year until they played it)

That's just a few. Yeah, I'm a sap. But Revlon loves it!!!LOL

Hey, Big THANKS Mz Sweet-Caroline!

HOW I forgot that JONES-Song, I dunno...(Tho..& I KNOW I'm gonna get Pounded for this)..it felt on the OLD-Side the minute I heard it, while the Other 2-I-Mentioned have that "Today" ring to 'em/connect-better with me. (& that's just Me.)

Lonestar works for me...&..You ARE gonna get teased about the "Grandma" Song..hee-hee!!!

Thanks for a Great Misty Mornin',

Moments...by Emerson Drive...had the pleasure of hearing them do it live a couple months ago when my sons opened for them,

Also...Don't Blink...by Mr. Chesney

And I highly agree with all of them that Caroline mentioned. That gal knows good music.

There's alot to be learned from all of them and Stan you penned this one very well....I'm afraid that too many people rule the tear-jerkers out as some of the very best ever written.

I'll keep listenin' to them and tryin' to write them as well, probably not as well as you, though.

Mi Hugs, red-eyes(sorry about that...been there, done that)

HiDee & "Nice Pair", Mich-Sis! ;-)>

I am FAR from good at writin' Sad Ones, truth-be-told. Most I don't even Wanna Hear..('Cuz they're "Formula Tearjerkers"..& Pretty Obvious Ones.)

But BOY those "Good Ones" really get under the Eyelids & Loosten-Ya-UP! Re-connect ya with your Soul..Humanity..& that Neglected-Side-of-Livin' that too-rarely Gets-Visited.

&, for that, we're definitely Indebted to the Boys (& Girls) who make the noise on 7th Ave...& Elsewhere!

Thanks for Sharin' & Visitin', Talented Sissy!

I don't know that this one would be considered a tear-jerker, but I think it's one of the most beautiful songs ever--and it gives me goose-gumps every time I hear the guitar solo and the harmonies in it:

"The Air That I Breath" by the Hollies

Stan--as to your song, I love the idea behind it. Songs about other songs or other song genres are pretty cool. Kinda like that "Sweet Soul Music" song that refers to all those great soul singers--or even the Charlie Daniels tune "South's Gonna Do It Again" that mentions all the southern rockers. BTW, just because I like that song doesn't mean I support the conferate flag LOL.

G'Mornin' Brother Eric!

"All I need is the air that I breathe and to love you"...

(Repeat, hit that Guitar & yep, it's NIRVANA..heh!)

Howsomeever, it's still in that "Songs-of-Love" Category, alas!

I DID sorty pen This Baby to head off in a Better-Direction than the "Flag" Song I'm guilty of a-writing last week... ;-)> Hopefully my mentioning I LOVE CDB and HAVE Seen Him Live I can worm my way back into a few Southern Hearts... ;-)>

So..back on Track...what Songs (other'n the Love kind) grab at your Heartstrings, Amigo? Lemmie mention Tennessee Ernie Ford's "BIG JOHN" as yet-another one that forms a BIG-BIG Lump in My Throat every time I hear that one. (Guess alla my faves are "Story Songs", come to think of it...) (Or at least, So-Far.)

Thanks for Your Kind Visit & Words, Amigo...& a Big-Big Guy-Hug,
Ol' Stan

Oh, Big John!!! Yes, how could I have forgotten that one. Oooh, and Dolly Parton, Coat of Many Colors, I Will Always Love You! Umm, gosh, there are so many. Lady, Kenny Rogers, Three Wooden Crosses, Randy Travis. I don't remember much of the 80's pop music but I'm sure there would have been some there too. Maybe I should have been sober form time to time, LOL!!! (my version of the 60's I guess.

Tease away!! I don't mind the teasing at all, it happens here too. Especially when I tear up while it plays. My grandma is gone, passed on my birthday 11 years ago. It makes me remember all the good times with her though, she was a great lady. Think I'll go play it. (yep, I have it to play whenever I want)She'd sing a long with it, oh did I mention she was from Manchester England, so when she'd sing, she sounded so funny. We'd try to imitate her accent, so we'd all get a laugh.

Yeah, you're right--that one is definitely a love song. Well, then, try this one on for size--it's my all-time favorite song. I've loved this one ever since I was a kid and heard it on my uncle's turntable. I think it falls into the "lump in the throat" category.

"Lucky Man" by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer

I get a little choked up everytime the bullet finds him and he lays down to die. Probably has something to do with the emotional connection from my childhood as well--everytime I tell people that it's my all-time favorite (and always will be), they look at me like I'm some kind of lunatic. LOL.

Ruby! Good one, ooh, how about Go Rest High on that Mountain by Vince Gill. That one came out when my brother died, and written about his own brother it seemed to mean more.

K, I'm done, don't want to get in trouble for posting on one topic too much.

Actually, Mz S-C from Texas, I'm in no position to tease ya on Gramma's Song. When my Piano-Playin' Mom was alive, "Claire de Lune" (Debussy's?) was her very-favorite Tune on the Planet. So when she died, I had it played at her funeral. And..to this day, I HAVE to leave the room when it's played..WAY too-much Mist-Involved!

So, yeah, I DO Understand. (In Spades!) ;-)>

Your Gramma sounds like One Of The Great Ones, too!

Thanks for Sharin'!

Hi Stan,

Well there you go again, being creative but also offering perspective... smile

As far as sad songs, there's one, "Christmas Shoes" sung by Bob Carlisle, that when I hear it, I can't even listen to the whole thing....(Thus, I can't say I "enjoy" it!)

But the first thing that came to my mind when people started listing their sad songs was "The Rose" sung by Bette Midler. I still remember seeing that movie too, years ago...

G'Mornin' Mz Sunshine & Thanks for the Smiley!~

I haven't heard the "Shoes" Song, but yeah, the Rose is onea those Special Ones...(I've always had that "Razor" Line stuck in my Memory..what a Simile, eh?) Bette's "Wind Beneath My Wings" also gets me into that Mindset...as does her "From a Distance"...

Thanks for gettin' my day off to such a Nice Start!

Good Morning Stan

Hope your eye thing is getting better. I like the idea and the sentiment. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the songs that you cite...

thinking the chorus reads a bit hard for me - of course it could be me !

(CHORUS)
SONGS THAT MIST ME UP..Hit-Hard
'Cuz I Know "LIFE"..Is What's Inspired
The Authors..To..Write..Each...

SONGS THAT MIST ME UP..Rate HIGH ---- if you use ' each' in the line before then 'songs' in this line should be singular --- i think

each song --that mists me up rates high--- I think is the correct english ---- so THEN it creates More of an "s" sounding problem for the singer.... which I already had in my mind..... songs/mist in the same line is a hard sing.

Even Though I Have to Cry
But SONGS THAT MIST ME UP...Still..Teach!

anyway KOS
and best regards ! smile jm

G'Mornin' Mz Gem!

As-sung, "each" is at the END of The Sentence...with a "La-So-Fa" Down-the-Scale melody, behind "To..Write..Each".

Melody-Wise, "Songs that mist me up" is IDENTICAL both runs, so it indicates the START of a NEW Sentence when-sung, with an Up-The-Scale Melody behind it. (I.e., it Starts-Off Higher-in-Scale.)

As penned, it's decent English...MIGHT be a bit of a Brainscratcher First Hear-Through, but think it'll be Understandable by Second Chorus...or at least I sure Hope So!

As for Tongue-Twistin'...dunno...I've spaced the Sibilants I think far-enough apart, with "that" in-between 'em (Even tho I AVOID "That" Word..heh..normally...) so it felt fairly-easy to pull off. I also kept The Chorus pretty-short-lines, to be easy-to-memorize..(MY particular Difficulty..heh!)

Thanks for Your Kind Visit & Sugs, M'LadyChum! & yep, Eyes are Better, day-by-day...tho today it's Joints-Stiffer-than-Usual. Life gets real-exciting when you've got a 28-yr-old's-Mind and a 62-yr-old-Body, lemmie tellya~

Anyone remember the song called.. "another old lange syne?"
Starts off
Met my old lover in a grocery store
the snow was falling xmas eve

Dan Fogelberg, now there is a man who can write a damn good song! And it's 5 minutes long!! but you'd never know it.

I think it's one of the best songs ever written, not just for emotion but also perfect story telling.
here is a link. in case you've never heard it...

G'Mornin..(Actually, Good Afternoon...it's 11:53, back from the Flea Market {With $1.50 a Bag Starbucks!}..Major Downpour as we arrived home!}

Yep, I like that one, too...& it Does mist me up--I've had the Good Fortune to meet up with Several of the Lost-Loves of The Past. In every case, I've been SO glad I ended up with The Right Person.

But I guess "What IF" is a big thread thru Many a Life. (And I'm SO aware of that Carly Simon Line, "These Are the Good Old Days"...)

Fogelberg's song certainly reminds ya that Everyday Occurrences CAN make for Great Entertainment. (NOT that ya meet a Former Love, necessarily, every day..but Grocery Shopping CAN be Quite Entertaining..when properly-detailed.) I think his setting it on Christmas Eve was a Major Bit of Brilliance, too. I think Christmas is quite a SAD-&-moody time of the year, UNLESS you're a Young Family With Kids all living under the same roof.

Thanks for addin' to the Mistyness around here, & a Big Weekend Hug, M'LadyCHum~!

Best Wishes, too,
Stan
