{Bear with me, I'm re-writin' as I go here...}

Back in The Earlier Days of This Nation
There was NO Such THING as "Women's Liberation"
UNTIL an Invention that Saved Gals, At-Last
Eased Them Out of Our Agrarian Past

(Until THEN, The OPTIONS WERE:)

(CHORUS)
"A HOOKER, A TEACHER, A WIFE, Or A MAID"
Got You Jobs..in..The City
"A HOOKER, A TEACHER...A WIFE Or A MAID"
(& The Jobs & The Paycheck Weren't Pretty~!)

Well, The FIRST Women's Liberator was..A MAN
Back When All The INVENTING Began~!
1829 W. A. Bart created The TYPOGRAPHER
(But Never Sold The Patent)..says His Biographer

An Invention to Enable The Blind..to Write
Looks Incredible..on Second-Sight
Got RE-Invented..52 Times!
Took over 70 YEARS..To Get-it-Right!

('Till Then, The OPTIONS Were:)

(REPEAT CHORUS)

(BRIDGE)
Writing With a Pen in 1853
The Record was "30 Words..a Minute"
Barbara Blackwell hit 212..in 2005
(With TYPE-writing, Gals keep PUSHIN' THE LIMITS~)

In 1865, Danish Reverend Rasmus Mallip-Hansen
Invented.."The Writing Ball"
As Typewriters crept Into-Production, GALS took Notation:
Those MACHINES Wrote the FASTEST-Of-All!

"March 1, 1873" was "Liberation Day"
Patent Seventy-Nine-Two-Sixty-Five saw its Introduction
Christopher Sholes sold it off, for just $12-K
(& Disowned It) as Remington & Sons Swept into Production.

(Up 'Till Then, The OPTIONS Were)

(CHORUS, Changed)
"A HOOKER, A TEACHER, A WIFE" Or "A MAID")
Got You Jobs..in..The City
Until The TYPEWRITERS All Came-Along
A Gal's Jobs & The Paychecks Weren't Pretty.

(BRIDGE)
With Big-City Business Constantly-Increasing
From the Mid-1800's...On
MALE Secretaries Became Far Less-Pleasing
As The NEED For MORE WOMEN Got Strong...

By 1910, Typrewriters got-Standardized
(QWERTY Keyboards "Ruled' from 1874)
& By 1910, 81 Per-Cent of Typists were GALS
(Y'Couldn't Keep 'Em DOWN on The FARMS..Anymore!)

(And The OPTIONS CHANGED from)

(CHORUS, Changed)
"A HOOKER, A TEACHER,..A WIFE, Or "A MAID")..WERE The Only Jobs in The City
But NOW All Ya Hadda Do Was "LEARN HOW TO TYPE"
Since THEN the Business World's Got
LOTS MORE PRETTY~

This is interesting history, thanks Stan! I was actually a medical transcriptionist for almost three years. My one thought was how about changing the very end to something like, "And that's how the business world got so pretty" ?!

Fun read!

G'Mornin' & Thankee Mz Katie!

As One whose Life was Probably SAVED by an Underwood Five (When the In-Processing Folks in Pleiku decided my Typing & Shorthand Skills were more-Important than my Combat Engineer [Pioneer] training) I've ALWAYS Appreciated "The Powers of The Typewriter!"

&..yep..I think GALS, too, should Appreciate Typewriters MORE..even tho those Machines are now "Mostly-Doorstops"..in this Computer Keypad Age.

For, without 'em, the "Glass DOORWAY" prolly would never been broken-down..so you-uns could work further on The Ceilings!

"Sky's the limit" Nowadaze, of course..(& yeah, I'll polish up The Ending a bit more, soon's I get back to this Baby!) (Was up till 4:30 AM doing Preliminary Work on a FAN EXHIBIT...The Head Honcho from Tampa's Museum of Science & Industry is visitin' ME & My Fan Collection Next Friday Afternoon... La Demme's THRILLED we may just Finally get some of the 1500+ Collection OUT of our Shop [& Home]...& Off to An Exhibition Hall..WITH the strong Possibility of Monthly "Returns" on a Major..& admittedly CRAZY..Investment Over-The-Years.)

ONE of the Prettiest Fans-Ever is an Emerson "Silver Swan", designed by a Gal Mechanical Engineer (whose Name I gotta Look Up..soon!)..She had a Chum in the Outboard Motor Biz...& THAT's were she got the Idea for the Beautiful Aluminum Overlapping Blades it has. It's SO Beautiful, a chum of mine, Mike Coup owner of Vornado Fans in Wichita, is having it RE-Made..in China..these days. New Ones fetch $300 each...best I can remember...same as the more Common of the Older "Swans" among us Collectors.

"Pretty" certainly DOES have its Place in the Business World!

Here's a Hoot for ya on the Way Out: When I worked for SHAPE's ADP Division, one day this KNOCKOUT Blonde from Sweden showed up.
Her Name? "Bodil Skovgaard". The Brass had read her Resume & hired her on the spot Without REALIZING she was a GAL..& A Dazzler, at that. (& every time sh dropped a Pen & Picked it up, the Hallways there'd get Deathly-Silent...heh-heh!) She had a Great Sense of Humor to go with Those Looks-that-Drew-Stares! (And..yeah..An Elegant MIND too...but a Guy's Eyes couldn't HELP but Look-Further...heh-heh!)

Back to Business...heh...(WHICH I frankly COULDN'T fathom Conducting without My Long-Suffering Wife..)

(Cue in "Don't Fall in Love with A Dreamer"...Gulp!)

Big Hugs & Big Thanks for Your Kind Visit & Words, Mz Katie!
Ol' Stan

Just Plain Quotes
"The standard by which I now measure the things in my life is the following: If I was on my death bed, or if I knew I had a short time to live, would this issue be important? If the answer is no.. I don't sweat it at all. If the answer is Yes, you better believe it goes to the front of the order of today's business!" -Brian Austin Whitney
